DW is 4 months pregnant. We fly out of BWI on Saturday and they have the full body scanners there. Is she allowed to decline the full body scan for a pat down? She does not want to go through the full body scan.

Everyone is allowed to decline it. You get the patdown. Which I have never experienced as a big deal.

Opting out of the full body scan seems like a good move on DW's part. Make sure you are around to witness the patdown - everyone has the right to a witness of their choosing.

I didn't know that. Thank you for the tip

:confused3

I have been patted down several times. TSA does this right outside of the scanner, in full view of everyone. Plenty of witnesses (most NOT of my choosing)!

You can opt of of the full body scan.

You will be patted down by a same sex TSA agent. They will run their hands over every part of your body and explain what they are doing during the entire process. It is very thorough and does not take very long.

I see that this has quickly gone off topic. That seems to happen a lot lately. To answer the question asked... you can opt out of the scanner and request a pat down. No you cannot pick who does it.. it will be the same gender as you are. You can ask for a private area and they will comply, you at the same time can have a witness of your choosing and they also will bring a witness of the same gender as the person getting patted down. Enjoy your vacation.
