Does anyone have one of these? I'm looking to buy a digital camera, I've never had one before. I had a Fuji 35 mm for years and I loved it, but after 18 years it was getting a little slow. I bought a Canon and after not having it for even 2 years, it died. It was flashing "H" and we couldn't fix it. So, needless, to say I will NOT buy a Canon ever again. My sister had the S5100 and loves it. Any thoughts? Thank you.

tee hee, not to laugh AT you, but to invite you to laugh with me. Digital cameras, especially entry level digital camera will last about a year or two max. This is not only from my personal experience, but also from a friend of mine who owns two camera stores and they are authorized dealers for Pentax, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Sigma. It's planned obsolesence.

My Fuji F10 (by all means not an entry level P&S) lasted only 11 months and it took them 2 months to "repair" it (they "repaired" it so well it got back as F30 when I received it from Fuji). My Fuji A200 (that's an entry level P&S) lasted only 13 months, 1 month out of warranty, Fuji told me that I'm S.O.L.). It doesn't stop me from using Fuji, though. I still use Fuji A345 and Fuji F30.

I also strongly recommend Fuji S5200. It's a great camera for the money.

PS: That Canon camera, it doesn't happen to be an Elph 490Z APS? If it is indeed the Elph 490Z APS, I also had that camera and had that same problem after almost 2 years of usage.

The Fuji I had for over 18 years was the DL-400 Tele QD. I used it all the time!!!

The Canon that died on me was the Sure Shot 115u.

Boy they don't make things like they use to!!!

How long should I expect my S5200 to last!! Please say 18 years!!!! :rotfl:

I need to get something, we leave for WDW next month!!!

Thank you!!

LOL! I don't know. Since it's originally a 'bridge' camera (meaning a camera with features just like dSLR with partial dSLR performance), I think it should last you at least 2 years.

My Canon original 35mm Rebel lasts about 12 years before I sold it (and it is still working now... I've just received an e-mail from the purchaser-now-friend several weeks ago). I do not know how long a dSLR will last, I keep upgrading every 14 months.

That is so wrong!!!! You pay that kind of money it should last longer!!!!!

I think the reason your Canon and my Fuji lasted so long, is because they made them years ago when they were built to last!!!
