Sorry for asking this when I am fairly certain that it has been asked before.

When we booked our Med cruise way back in October 2008 our cost included the fuel surcharge. We did receive the $200 ob credit and have subsequently received the $400 ob early booking credit - we have not yet been credited for the fuel surcharge. Will this be an additional credit if fuel stays low or since we have received the early booking credit, are we out of luck on the amount that was the fuel surcharge.

On the Feb 13th sailing we had notes in our cabin that indicated we had received a refundable OBC for previously paid fuel surcharges. It was $56.00 each for passengers 1 and 2 and $21.00 each for passengers 3 and 4. Of course we did not actually get them refunded, as we were able to spend that (and more !:rotfl2:) while onboard

We were on that cruise as you know - we did not get a fuel surcharge refund....we did get a $200 refundable OBC though, which we assumed was our OBC from DU since we also had a non refundable one from DCL for the same amount (our $200 rebooking onboard OBC) ???.......did you receive a specific notification of this and/or did it appear on your end of cruise account statement as this ? :confused3

I am certain that whatever they give us in credit we will spend and then spend more and more!!

Whether a fuel surcharge was added (or credited) to your 2009 cruise depended on two things. If you booked early in 2008, you got in before the fuel surcharge was being added. If you booked mid year 2008, you got a surcharge added.If you booked at the end of 2008, DCL decided to eliminate the surcharge on 2009 cruises late (~November?) in 2008, so if you booked after they made their decision to eliminate them, you wouldn't have one (so no credit).

If you were charged the surcharge, DCL only credited it back if the spot price of West Texas Crude was lower than $70BB on the 15th day of the last month in the calendar quarter preceeding the one that you cruised. We had two 2009 cruises - one was booked in March, 08 (before they added the surcharge) for a May 09 cruise and the second was booked in August 08 (after they instituted the surcharge) for an August 09 cruise. Everyone on the May 09 cruise that booked after they implemented the surcharge got an OBC (spot price on 3/15 was below $70BB)- we didn't, because we got in early enough that it wasn't implemented yet.

People who booked the August 09 cruise after November 08, didn't have the surcharge, but we did because we booked before they eliminated it, and didn't get ours back because the spot price on 6/15 was over $70BB:confused3

We managed to get our cruise rebooked for through DCL and keep the OBC so were lucky. The base price had gone up by $50 each but the FSC was $300 odd so we decided to take the gamble (I emailed DCL and they did this for me guarenteeing my OBC but I'm booked directly with DCL).

As it is you may get lucky and the rate may be under $70 on the day it gets checked but the rate has been pretty high of late. It was $82 dollars yesterday! 14th of December was the last time it was below $70 and then only for 2 days. The dates are:

18th March for 2nd Quarter 2010 -> Apr-June sailings
17th June for 3rd Quarter 2010 -> July-Sept sailings
17th September for 4th Quarter 2010 -> Oct-Dec sailings

You can request DCL (if you booked directly thru them or your TA if not) to reshop your cruise. DCL will give you the current price and you may be credited a portion of the FS. Just beware that if your category is sold out, DCL will reshop but if you had a stateroom # assigned you will loose it and your reservation goes to GTY. You will also loose your dining time if early and if early is full. I have been trying to knock off the FS from the WBTA for a looooong time but I don't want to give up my stateroom number or my early dining time. DCL is holding me hostage with the FS.

Hi Judy,

We had 4 little notes in the cabin (on the desk) the day we arrived, each had one passenger's name on it and the amount refunded. This is exactly what they said:

"TO: xxxxx
STATEROOM: XXXX
FROM: Disney Cruise Line

We are pleased to advise you that the previously paid fuel supplement for your sailing has been refunded in the form of a credit to your shipboard account. This credit totals $56.00 and it will appear on your stateroom account summary prior to the end of the voyage. You may use this credit for any charges made on board the Disney Magic, and it is refundable.

We wish you an enjoyable cruise aboard the Disney Magic.

Sincerely,

Guest Services"

When it was posted to the onboard account, the specific amount for each passenger was posted under that name. It wasn't a "lump sum" credit. Did you pay the fuel supplement when you booked? If so, they owe you the money back for sure. I hope this isn't one more thing you'll have to "fight" for :sad2: I didn't have any sort of OBC, so I'd say that you're right in thinking that the $200.00 credit was yours from DU.

We are booked on the July 6 Baltic cruise. We paid via DVC on points and did pay the fuel surcharge.

So, do we have to see what the price per barrel is for Q2, which ends June 30? That will cut it close as far as them organizing an OBC...suppose I will have to call DVC to have them check it out?

Though the way fuel prices are rising here in Chicago this week, maybe we'll be out of the running, sigh...

Just to say when I was reshopped for on the WBTA (with a Cat 11 room assigned) they had no cat 11s and we kept our room number. I think it might be pot luck on this one

Well that's interesting :confused3 - I got my TA to query with DCL about our fuel surcharge refund, and DCL told her no fuel surcharge refunds were issued on our cruise ???!!!! :confused3 WEIRD ! I wonder what is going on - perhaps you were lucky enough to get an error in your favour.....or do you have another cruise booked with them that may have qualified you ???

Absolutely no other cruise booked and I know for a fact that someone else from our cruise (I'll send you a PM) got the same exact thing. They were booked two to a cabin, also booked on DVC points, and they each got a $56.00 credit. Keep inquiring!

Since you've mentioned that you and the other people booked thru DVC, they may have reshopped the cruise to eliminate the fuel surcharge and chose to give OBC for the refund of it. You could call DVC to verify why you rec'd the FS OBC and then report back here so everyone knows why you rec'd it on your sailing.

You are absolutely right, jilljill. DVC refunded the previously charged fuel charge to the people on this cruise who were booked through them. Not sure why, but they did. :confused3

Hi - we booked our Transatlantic cruise back in October 2008 also but I'm not aware of the $200 or $400 obc's which you refer to - how did you get these???

Thanks!

Hi - the $200 o/b credit was due to booking onboard. If you booked while on a cruise back in October 08 you will receive this credit.

The other one has been much discussed in other threads and is sort of an early booking customer loyalty credit. I had to call Disney and make a complete PITA of myself before I was notifed that I had this credit.

Your best bet is to call the DCL and ask them specifically about this. It happened to me once and they just gave me a credit off the total amount I had remaining to pay. It also happened after I had paid fully and they gave me the OBC which i used to play bingo and WON!

Sorry for that rant, its best to call them to get the correct and most accurate info becuase it can be changed and reverted.
