Fuel Supplement Charge

Or which OBC will be used first. It doesn't really matter as I was just curious and will have no trouble spending all my OBC by shopping, shopping, shopping. Thanks for clarifiying how OBC are listed.

The non-refundable is always used first :).

Since this is such an ususal situation I am going to ask DCL about this - seems unfair to have to use the non-refundable first. Let's see what they say before we start sending them emails and letters about it :lmao:

This may have been stated somewhere already but how can I verify on my reservation that I was in fact charged the fuel supplement? I am booked through DU and I don't see it on their site. But I would imagine I can find it on the main Disney site. It's got to be itemized somewhere right?

No non-refundable first is the correct way because you want to exhaust that first and if you have any refundable leftover in the end that will come back to you when you settle your account after the cruise.

I want to make sure that those who have had the fuel surcharge removed (which means they were re-priced or re-shopped) that your shore excursions could have been removed from the reservation in DCL's system.

This is just the way DCL's systems work - so please be aware.

The shore excursions are fairly easy to get reinstate but I don't want anyone to be surprised to find at a later date that their shore excursions were removed when the fuel surcharge was removed and then they can't book them at that time because they are sold out.

Please go back and check your shore excursions if you called to have the fuel surcharge removed.

I'm sure TA's know about this and will do their best to make sure their client's shore excursions do not get removed from the reservation.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was planning on cancelling and rebooking for our trip next december as the price is the same, minus the fuel surcharge and we have 5 cabins booked. But our Vow Renewal has already been booked and added to the reservation and don't want to lose my space on CC so i guess we're just stuck until the qtr review for the month of December 2009. :headache:

All the Palo reservations will be removed from the booking and will need to be re-booked as well.

You are correct. I was on my out the door and read this fast and misread it.

Sorry

Had my insurance removed and at the same time the TA was able to get the Fuel Surcharge "removed" but she wrote it up very well in terms of exactly what happen as it was somewhat of a rebook (hope this helps everyone):

"Also, since your reservation price was the same as when you originally booked, I was able to have Disney Cruise Line re-shop your reservation (rebook it at today's price) which removed the $242.00 fuel charge from your reservation. Disney Cruise Line is not able to remove the fuel surcharge from a reservation without re-shopping. This did not change your reservation number, stateroom, dining, onboard credits, etc."

BTW - I can't recall what the exact amount was for 2 adults and 2 children for the 11 night - but I think it was the same as the 7 night correct?

Also (forgot to ask the TA at DU but I know they are slammed right now so if someone knows that would help me) whether a reshop constitutes a new "booking" date? I'm asking as I have to provide the booking date to the trip insurance folks and I wasn't sure if I use today at the booking date or the original date I purchased the cruise?

I called DCL this morning as well, and spoke with a very nice CM. Since my cruise is fully paid and I have reservations at Palo, I was advised to wait until Dec. 18th when DCL evaluates the gas prices. If gas prices look good- I will automatically get an onboard credit for what I paid in fuel supplement fees. I have two cabins booked, so I'm hoping for the best! I would love more spending money.:) With this said, I was advised to call back on Dec. 19th.

The latest info that I have received from my TA is that DCL will add the fuel surcharge to the new reservations (those after Dec 1) if they determine it is necessary during their quarterly review.

This creates 3 groups of cruisers:
- 1 group of people that legitimately does not have to pay the surcharge (pre-May 28)
- 1 group that has already paid the surcharge with the possibility of an OBC depending on the quarterly review (May 29 - Nov 30)
- 1 group that may or may not pay the surcharge depending upon a quarterly review (hopefully this group knows there is a chance that their cruise price may be going up) (after Dec 1)

DCL could have saved a lot of headaches (theirs and ours) by just leaving the pricing the same and giving an OBC to the post May 28, 2008 reservations if their quarterly review shows they do not need the surcharge.

If this is the case, those who are in the third group that just re-booked to get out of the 2nd group, will not be happy campers if the surcharge is added back onto their bill at the quarterly review time.

I wouldn't say I wouldn't be happy because I didn't lose anything or will lose anything in terms of "money/obc" if they add it back. I had asked the question earlier in this thread on what DCL did earlier this year when they imposed the fuel surcharge in terms of those that had already booked - they did not add the fuel surcharge on to those bookings made pre 5-28. Any bookings after that date did have the fuel surcharge. Hence if I "re-booked" now at exactly the same price (minus the surcharge) and they implement the surcharge again then I am "hoping" they following past policies and do not retro-fit those bookings that do not have it.

Basically - I'm banking on them not adding it to existing bookings because it would be retroactive. If they do, well then I'm only "out" the 242.00 that I had "taken" off today.

Could you rebook 4 out of the 5 ?

That is the issue that I have with this situation. I am not sure if DCL is going to fairly implement the surcharge if they end up needing it. There could be some people that booked after 5-28 on a cruise that had to pay a surcharge and some that were lucky enough to have their TA/DCL remove it now and not have it added back which is good for those lucky few but I do not think is fair for those that did not get a friendly CM when they called.

I just got an email from DU that the fuel charge for our 1/29 sailing on the Wonder will be credited to my card.
Renea

Correct - if the fuel surcharge is not applied to your cruise and you do nothing DCL will automaticaly give you a shipboard credit in the amount of the fuel surcharge. You do not need to contact them to have the SBC applied.

We have also found out that any unused amount of these shipboard credits will be refundable (unlike other SBC's). So if you don't spend it all you will get it back.

The SBC can be used for any and all purchases onboard the ship (merchandise and services), shore excursions you book through DCL and gratuities.

That is good to know...although with 14 days on the ship it is unlikely that anything will be left from it. LOL!

Hello Renea and welcome aboard - we're sailing on the same cruise. I received the email from DU too, but it says that we will get a shipboard credit to be used while onboard, not a credit back to our credit cards, and then if we don't use the whole credit for anything onboard (tips, drinks, etc) we will get a refund at the end of the cruise. Either way we'll get the surcharge back, assuming fuel prices don't go stratospheric again by Dec 18!! lol

OT- come over to the cruise meet board and look up the Wonder 1-29 thread, several nice people chatting and planning :cool1:

Hi, I was advised that if a booking is reshopped, then it is possible (though only a small chance) that we may lose our cabin reservation as well. This may not matter in general, but if it were a special cabin or say a SPH cabin, then it feels risky.

Just wondering if anyone here has had a cabin change due to a reshop and if anyone has any thoughts on how advisable it is to reshop a SPH. Thanks.

We were advised not to reshop as our category is sold out and we would lose our cabin.
