Fuel Rod

I know this has been discussed elsewhere, but I’m looking for updated information as far as WDW 2021. Are the fuel rod stations still available in the parks AND are they charging a swap fee? We have always carried multiple ONN chargers, similar to the Fuel Rod, but I’m looking at NOT carrying them around and swapping out the chargers instead.
thanks!

They are still there but unless you bought one years ago, they charge to swap them. I think it's $5 per swap. If you bought one before they started charging, you can still swap them for free. I think you register them. I just bought a similar one on Amazon and it holds the charge for a couple of days. I charge it at night in the room.

Thank you. From what I’ve found, it’s a $3 fee at WDW and UO. I bought the ONN chargers for that at Walmart a few years ago and they’re getting weak. I have a large Patriot Supply brick that can be solar charged too. I’m trying to decide how to go as far as what I want to carry around. :) Is it more convenient to have one fuel rod for the day and swap it when it runs down and recharge it in the room overnight?

I own a different charger pack that lasts a lot longer and never regret it. I can charge it in my room at night and not have to waste more money.

I recharge mine in the room at night. The one I have holds a charge pretty well, my phone does not, it's old like me. I usually have to charge my phone at least once if not twice a day at the parks, depends on it I'm checking the app a lot or if I'm reading on the kindle app while in line a lot. The charger fits in my pocket well (women's shorts don't have keep pockets). Back in the day when it was free to swap, my son carried around one of the fuel rods from Disney in his pockets and just charged his phone while it was in his pocket then swapped the charger out. I'm cheap and don't want to pay $3 every time I need a different charger and most hotels now days have plenty of USB ports. We generally charge our phones every night anyway so no big deal to stick the charger on a port as well.

What charger do you recommend for an I phone XR?
I like Mophie brand and Anker brand, but they are not lightweight. Probably as heavy as your phone.

The iPhone XR has a 2,942 mAh battery. So when you look at portable chargers, you look at the mAh in the description of the charger. If the portable charger is 10,000 mAh, divide that by 2,942 and it should be able to charge your iPhone 3 times. A lighter weight portable charger probably has a lower mAh. So it depends what you are looking for. Are you just going to charge your phone, or will everybody else in the family expect your charger to charge their phones as well?

I bought a charger at Marshalls for like $10 that charges my Iphone several times. That saved a lot of money versus buying the fuel rod and then paying to swap it daily.

I carry a small pack pack, but I’m used to us being chargers for myself and both kids and/extended family that has gone with us in the past this trip it’s just me and my daughter. So I’m thinking one charge for each of us will work. I also have to charge mine mid day. I’m ‘hoping’ that I’ll leave my phone in my pocket more this trip. Lol.

The fuel rod had plenty of charge for both my son and I to take hits off of all day long.

How did you register them? I still have 2 and don’t remember registering them before the swap fee was announced. I need to figure out all the locations too.

We didn't. I bought some like them on Amazon and that is what I use now. Son still has his and we just don't swap them but charge them at night instead.

I had to get the app to register mine, and they needed info from my receipt of when I first bought it..... I hoard my emails, the receipt was in there, and that is the only way I had the information they needed. But I am sure there might be someway to contact them if you no longer have the receipt.

Sorry, old lady here, I'm pretty techno-challenged.
DD28 has an iPhone 8. I am looking for a portable charger that is 10,000mAh, I guess, but what ELSE would I need to order- cables, cords, connecters? Right now her phone has a cord with a narrow end (typical iPhone cord) that she plugs into her phone and a wider end (like a USB charger) that goes into the adaptor that plugs into the wall. Will this work with a portable charger?
Sorry for being so vague... I am actually techno-stupid!

The phone charger she uses will work for the portable charger!
