I saw on a Dis blog that Iger & Lassiter are allegedly fueding. Anyone know why & how bad?? The blog article doesn't say anything about it.

How does one 'feud' with one's boss or subordinate?

If one of my employees were to 'feud' with me, I'd have one less employee.

But Iger needs Lassiter more than Lassiter needs Iger. Iger is a savvy biz exec, but there are quite of few of those around. Lassiter is multi-talented and a visionary. The supply of these types is much more limited.

This type of feud (if there really is one) is a result of some kind of power struggle. The feud breaks out because it's not a "you're fired/I quit" sitch.

Is it a feud or a disagreement? I think there's a difference, and an employee is allowed to disagree with their boss, as long as it's done respectfully.

After the Q3 earnings report, another website (NOT a blog) has mentioned that they don't always see eye-to-eye on things.

Consider how much Lasseter has achieved as a creative director on his own merit and running Pixar very well, and Bob Iger being more of a TV executive, I'm sure there's some back and forth issues.

Anyway, Iger is leaving VERY shortly (possibly before even 2015)...it will be interesting to see what happens after that

With a company like Disney and the position that Lassiter hold, Iger can't just say to Lassiter "you're fired because we don't see eye to eye". He could try to get the board to agree to get rid of him, but highly doubt they would agree to that at this point.

No idea who they are let alone if they are feuding!

John Lassiter is one of the founders and Chief Creative Officer of Pixar. He is heavyset and usually wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Bob Iger is the Chairman and CEO of Disney.

Sheesh...if someone blogged about every time *I* didn't see "eye to eye" with my boss, it'd blow up the interwebz! Look...I don't know many people who are in total lockstep with their bosses - especially coming from very different fields (creative vs business). I wonder how much of this is to hype a situation and get people all fired up with "OMG - how will this affect the parks"?

I am of the opinion - and I might be wrong - that Disney is bigger than one or two people, or their bickering. Certainly there are "eras" and "regimes", but I don't know if one or two people (albeit powerful people) wield that sort of influence on the trajectory of Disney's vision.

I would imagine that this goes on all the time. Creative people are passionate.

Well, by Definition, a CEO has a lot of power to wield in a company's trajectory.

The odd thing is Lassiter. He's kind of in a unique, and pretty high-profile position in the company. While he may not have the power directly himself to influence the trajectory of the company, His position and profile would be such that I could VERY easily see him at the very least having enough sway over public (and investor) opinion that it could cause others to second guess their decisions. As he has been seen by many people as a force to return a lot of the creative energy to the company, If he suddenly decided to leave due to 'creative differences' with the company heads, It might be enough to cause investors to wonder about the direction of the company and it's ability to continue to offer the products which have been driving the company's growth.

As others have mentioned.... Bean counters and executive types are almost a commodity. It's much harder to find someone who has the creative energy combined with the leadership/financial components that Lassiter has.

Not only that, as a master storyteller, he may be the closest thing to Walt that the company has had outside of the direct Disney family (Roy, Roy E., etc.)

Which gets back to the Investor confidence thing I was talking about. The Money people could care less about "But It's DISNEY!!", but they do care about the company's ability to continue to bring in the $$ and grow the profits.

The thing that has kept Disney unique among many other companies/studios is it's ability to gain and keep that public goodwill. In the late 70's and Early 80's, Disney was starting to lose a lot of that goodwill, and the company was almost lost to us (Raided). Roy ended up bringing in Eisner, who helped save the company and who during the 80's and early/mid 90's really helped regain that Disney Goodwill in the public perception.

Eisner goes nuts.... But by bringing in Pixar and Lassiter Disney avoids losing as much of the shine as they had... while they continue to ride out the goodwill as much as possible. (while discounting heavily to bring in the volume).

Lassiter is seen by many as being the hope of the company to maintain it's creative edge.... as well as it's tie to what has kept Disney Unique. If he were to suddenly leave do to any reason that even had a whiff of his losing faith in the company's leadership, It will have an impact. It may not be a large earth shattering impact.... but it would be enough to remove that shine Disneyco has worked so hard to maintain because it helps keep the investor community happy and believing in the company's future.
