Hi All! I haven't stayed at the Cabins in 20 years. Can you give me some insight on how to get around there. Are all of the cabins within walking distance from the quick service/take out restaurant they have open right now? We won't be renting a golf cart. Can we walk to the boat to MK and is the boat running? How easy is it to get a stroller on the boat?

Below is a map to help with areas. The saying is that the Fort is a mile as the crow flies from the Settlement to Outpost. The cabins are the 2100 to 2800 loops. Some loops are small and others are large. Walk ability would be dependent on each person.

Most of the places of interest at FW that you mention are at the Settlement area and are farthest from most of the cabin areas. If you are on the backside of loop 2800, it will be quite the walk. The main pool is more center, but again depending on where you are located, walking might be a bit long. There is a pool in the cabin area that is closer, but doesn’t have the extras of the man pool.

As for the boat to MK, it is running. I couldn’t tell you anything about stroller use. I think I remember that the bigger boats would let strollers stay unfolded and the smaller requested they be folded, but I am not certain.

Personally, when I have stayed at the Fort in the cabins, I have either had a golf cart or used the buses to get around the resort for the longer distances.

Can you walk? Yes. Would you want to walk? Probably not. It would be a very long walk from the cabins to the food and boat launch to MK. It’s easily a 25-30+ minute walk from some of the cabin loops to the restaurant. There’s an internal bus system that’s helpful to get around the fort, but I HIGHLY recommend renting a golf cart for ease of getting around.

I cannot recommend enough for people at FW to get a golf cart to get around. It would be very tough to get to pools, campfires, restaurants, the MK boat, the main gate entrance, etc. without a golf cart.

Also, is it possible to walk to the pool from the cabins?
You can walk anywhere within Fort Wilderness, but depending on where your cabin & destination is located, it could be a very long walk. It's a 750 acre campground. When we tent camped there, we took the bus to where we needed to go within the resort.
