Ft wilderness in August

Is it completely unbearable? We would be staying in a cabin, but I'm wondering how bad it is around the campground? Also, we would be flying, so where could we buy some groceries without having a car? Thanks!

I can't speak to the weather (I melt in the heat and you'd have to pay me a LOT of money to go to FL in Aug ) but without a car your grocery options are probably limited to the trading posts, taking a taxi nearby or looking into one of the grocery delivery services.

There's a thread HERE that shows what the trading posts typically carry. Prices are a little high, as you'd expect.

If you rent a taxi, steer clear of Goodings at Crossroads. It's probably the closest to the Fort, but the selection is lousy and the prices are nearly as high as the trading posts (maybe even the same in some cases). Better to go a bit further down the road (less than a mile) to the Winn Dixie - really nice store and "normal" prices.

In my opinion,,HOT is HOT , I dont care where you are at 100 degrees is HOT anyplace you are at,,that being said, I'd rather be HOT at Disney than HOT at work.

I used Garden Grocer in Feb, and they were fine. Everything arrived on time as advertised. I did my math though and figured with the delivery charge there wasn't much savings on what we bought at the trading post. I suppose it's different if you are staying for a long time or plan to cook more complicated meals.
I packed in a lot of my stuff this time in Dec - we used most of a suitcase for food, figuring we would need that space for souvenirs on the way home, lol. And I just bought perishables at the trading post.
A lot of people will also take a taxi to the Ft from the airport, and do a grocery stop on their way.

LOL, ok, hot is hot, but I still think some places feel hotter even though they are the same degree of hotness!

In Aug. it will be hot and humid. also it is right in our prime hurricane season. also chance of thunderstorms every afternoon.

But still hot at the fort is better than hot anywhere else.

also the fort does a good job on the bugs that time of year.

Ah, but the beauty of living in southern NH is that it's extremely rare we ever get anywhere near 100.

Actually the past few summers we're lucky to hit 90... or even have a solid week in the 80s...

I'm definitely not a hot weather gal (which explains why all our trips to WDW are between Oct-Dec!) We're actually heading north from here this weekend (where we got almost a foot of snow recently) to go snowmobiling in Maine where there's even MORE snow!

We took our DD and her family, DSIL, GD-9, GS-6, there this past August and we all had a blast. Of course this was the first trip for DSIL, GD and GS, but as Frank said.

They have really late "Extra magic hours", till 1:00 am so you can avoid the late afternoon heat.

Besides that's what the pools and water parks are for "COOLING OFF"

Yes, it is hot in August. With that being said, you can still enjoy yourself. Just go to the parks in the mornings and evenings. In the afternoon lounge by the pool and enjoy The Fort.
As far as groceries go, you can rent a car from Alamo, it's on Disney property and they will pick up at The Fort at no charge. Then you can go to Super Walmart. It's only about 5 miles from the Fort. That's what we did. We have a motorhome, but it is too much trouble to unhook and rehook in my opinion. We stay for 2 weeks and just rent a car halfway through our stay.

Yeah, It's hot in August, but more than that the dewpoints are in the mid 70's most days which makes that heat really uncomfortable to take. Air conditioning helps. Drink lots of fluids and you should be fine.
We camp in a motor home and we do not tow a vehicle with us. We tend to stay a while (in the summer when our kids are on school break) and we need to replenish our groceries. We usually take the city bus (lynx) that leaves from the TTC and go to Wal-mart to shop. It about $3.00 for a round trip. The schedule is available at the bus info centers at the theme parks. It does take a bit of time out of your Disney time which for us is not an issue because we stay so long. We do it because the variety of products and the price at Wal-mart is better than what you can get at the trading post. The Wilderness lodge or any of the Vacation club resorts also have grocery supplies.

I didn't know there was bus service available from TTC. That is definitely cheaper than renting a car. However, if you want a car Alamo usually runs a weekend specials that is 2 days for the price of 1. I think next year we will try the bus next year.
Also, we always came in August because our youngest was a competitive swimmer and that was the only time she had off. We are from Maryland and it is usually hot and humid in August here anyway. Bottom line is to just use common sense. You don't want to do the countries in Epcot in the middle of the afternoon if it is 90 degrees out. Concrete and 90 degrees just don't mix.

I've been in heat from the desert with 0% humidity to the jungle with 100% humidity and Frank is right - hot is hot, no matter where you are.

Just curious, what do they do about bugs? This August will be our 1st time to the Fort, and i was wondering how buggy it will be.

The bug truck goes around the loops early in the morning and fogs them. I never leave towels out at night for this reason.

Well, I re-thought my plans since I was beginning to get heat stroke thinking about August! Anyway, I ended up booking for early June! I can't wait!!
