Ft. Wilderness Cabins becoming DVC?

Earlier this week, I was talking with a family about DVC. Had no idea they were a Disney family.

I believe a key factor for them will be how many these new cabins sleep. If they sleep 6 with point charts close to existing 1BR, I believe Disney will have buyers in them.

Going to see this family tomorrow, so I am going to let them know about this. Their daughter is in a Disney wedding in April 2024, so timing of these points going on sale would be perfect for them.

It’s been announced they will sleep 6 adults.

If CFW resort opens in 10-11 months, it will have it will open just in time for the Halloween and Christmas seasons which will be good for many to experience.

Just to note...

The existing cabins also technically sleep 6 adults, however, I don't think I'd ever want to put 6 adults in there.

Just letting others know the announcement specifically mentioned it that way.

If these have a loft then 3 separate sleeping areas may be possible. Instead of cramming 4 people into the bedroom (with the queen and bunkbed right next to each other) it can be 2+2+2. 2 in the bedroom, 2 in the living room and 2 in the loft. Bonus points if the loft has stargazer window!

You still have the problem of the cabins being the same square footage. Also, I hope they put an oven in the DVC units since they got rid of them in the current cabins.
The points chart (and how nice they are) is going to be the real issue.
100% agree. If it’s reasonable, we may be interested, but point charts and restrictions could put us off the same way restrictions, point charts, and the TAT did at VDH…

It would be like added square footage with that loft room providing more space. It adds functionality so the other people aren’t tripping over those 2 people at night or sleeping 2 feet away. If it does have a loft I’d consider a better option than having 3 or 4 people in a 1BR because there are 2 private sleeping areas. Nobody has to sleep in the common area living room.

It might add a unique option to option to DVC. Obviously families with 3 or 4 kids might appreciate this, as well as those who love the idea of a secluded cabin. If it is less points than average DVC 2BR, I’d like it for trips where my husband and I invite 2 people that would prefer separate sleeping area. 1 bathroom does make that harder. Now that our kids are finally young adults we’re often going alone or with just one of them. This would be perfect when 1 joins.

I pray that they add/have at minimum a half bath/full bath. Not like the stupid situation at Poly. 2 toilets for 6!

I believe AoA family studios are 565 DW ft, pseudo 3 sleeping areas and 2 bathrooms. If Disney isn’t designing the cabins to match or exceed these, seems they will miss an opportunity.

Yes, kind of hard to cook a frozen pizza without an oven.
Also, I'm still waiting for word on the washer/dryers. I really hope the Cabins don't become the first DVC property that sleeps 6, but doesn't have a washer/dryer and perhaps no oven.

You can count it not having that. Can't have bigger space and added washer/dryer. If they do the kitchen will be much smaller.

I love the loft prospects! Although sleeping surfaces are a big deal for us, 3 kids... We really need 4 sleeping surfaces... Queen to twin conversion in loft would be sweet! (Like a cruise ship)

Small stackable w/d? I guess I'd be ok with a community laundry room... small stackable better I think.

Agree on oven and pizza... Maybe one of those combo microwave/convection ovens!

Oh, and 2 bathrooms!

I could also see it same layout, but with a Murphy bed...

Fun times!

So I'm officially nuts :). I was putting together our 2024 trip and I'm like do we need FW points now? We are a 1 bedroom family (2 adults 2 little boys but we need a door for different sleeping in schedules while on vacation). We do wine and dine every year and use our AKL direct points to stay at either Kidani (2 bathrooms and the boys favorite water slides) or Boardwalk at 7 months. We have Aulani points for an every other year trip and got a tiny DLH points for a one bedroom on the backside of our aulani trip. We used to do studios and I was a master of the waitlist and check daily but since we switched to one bedrooms it has gotten a lot easier.

So our original plan for fall was to do MNSSHP on the 1st, wine and dine run weekend, parks and then do a 4 night cruise to Castaway Cay and lighthouse point or whatever they are calling it now. I have this planned out with Kidani to reserve in a little over a month with maybe switching to Boardwalk at 7 months.... when it dawns on me.... how great would it be to do 10 days at the cabins with a golf cart seeing the Halloween decorations and such. That week can be cutthroat because of Halloween and Jersey Week (we aren't in Jersey but it occurs in that window). Also, we could bring our dog if we did the cabins. We were prepped to get 150 Poly points in the new tower to round out our direct point numbers and get a duo studio for marathon or princess weekend if I decide to do those without the family. I would normally just snag a cabin with my direct points at 7 months except I feel like Halloween/Christmas may be the one time you can't snag it. Should we do the cabins? Thank god they don't go on sale for a while so I can ponder.

So wiLL the announcement for a timeshare application at Fort Wilderness have any effect on whether Poly2 is part of the original association? I would have thought they would announce something regarding Poly2 first, unless they did and I missed that.

No filings on Poly2. Since these filings tend to happen 9-10 months before opening, we may not see anything for another 3 months.

I view the cabins as an opportunity to be a bit more outdoors. Similar to THV, no neighbors on top, below, walls pounding next door, etc. Personally, I think cabins are opportunity for a different market than they have focused on with monorail and skyliner resorts.

If tower impacts any sales, wouldn’t it impact RIV (could boost or reduce sales)? Board tend to dream big with construction but Disney is cutting costs in every division this year.

I think the current cabins do have the combo oven/microwave situation. We definitely made a frozen pizza in one of them in fall 2019. Took longer than a regular oven, but did the trick.

Yes they do. We stay every year and always make a frozen pizza
