Ft. Wilderness Cabins becoming DVC?

A stacked washer closet is typically only 3'x3', or 9 Sf. Since none of us know what the interior layout of the new cabins will be, we can't say what the impact will be. Ergonomically, tiny houses today are far more efficient with space, so the new cabins could quite easily be more open and spacious while still affording in in-unit washer and dryer.
This! It isn’t really that much space. Maybe half of a closet and how much closet space do you actually need on vacation. A combo washer dryer unit takes even less and while they aren’t the best units they work fine for vacation laundry.

Yes.
The new stacked units available now can have even smaller footprints, taking only 6-7 sf.
If they go with a walk-in shower instead of a shower/tub, that would free up at least 6 sf in the bathroom.
They could then put a stacked unit in the bathroom without taking up any more total space.
And they could tie the washer into the same plumbing, on the same wall, that the shower uses.

If they want to have a washer/dryer and are smart with designing the layout of the new "Cabins", they could easily add a stacked unit without intruding on the living areas.
The big question is "Do they want to?" :confused3
.

With prefab “trailer” construction plumbing isn’t stubbed in like traditional construction. Adding a washer and dryer shouldn’t be difficult.
I was wondering about the water supply pipes and the sewer/drainage pipes that are already in the concrete slabs (and were installed 50 years ago, draining to where?) - could the necessary drain pipes be routed from the washer to those pipes, and could the drainfield, wherever it is, handle the additional load?
Euro style washer dryer combos hook into existing kitchen plumbing. My guess they have one of those units in the kitchenette instead of a dishwasher.
I'm hoping for more like a 1BR kitchen, maybe with a smaller fridge, rather than a rudimentary studio kitchenette. If so, I'd choose a dishwasher over a W/D, although I'd really rather have both!

So many possibilities! I'm looking forward to seeing these floor plans even more than I'm eager to see Poly2!

Logistics aside, there’d be quite a bit of noise pollution from the dryer vents.

Poly DVC studios sold without laundry, and these are just slightly larger. People didn’t have a problem with them without laundry in the past. Well, not enough to keep them unoccupied. The variable will be if the DVC crowd will go for it. I suspect those who like this kind of accommodation won’t mind.
The big problem with Poly is one laundry room for 360 studios. Its always busy.

This makes me very sad. Those cabins are something special that Disney should not mess with. Oh well

This isn’t how trailer construction works. They aren’t hooking up the new plumbing in the locations the old plumbing was. A trailer will have main supply and a sewer main that will need to be connected to the existing main connections. The supply and drain for each appliance/fixture can be anywhere in the trailer. The floor of the trailer isn’t a concrete slab. The plumbing is below the floor and above the ground in a sort of “crawl space”.

Hadn't thought of that, but with the cabins separated as they are, would it be more of a problem than it is in the regular resorts?
In the quiet woods, those sounds would certainly travel. Think of how many times you hear the hydraulics and then the beeping of the buses in the idyll.

Ok, thanks. I guess I’m getting confused by them using the same footprint as the existing cabins. I thought they sat elevated on concrete pads.

I haven’t stayed in one but from everything I have read, they needed to be gutted and redone. Has your experience been different?
And this way DVC sales can pay for it. My hunch is it is part of a redevelopment of Fort Wilderness. I saw a post that they are no longer paying commission on travel agent bookings for camp sites. The restaurant turned to quick service. Plus the Reflections land is sitting there empty after they cleared it.

You are grasping for straws here - the campground has had RVs with washers / dryers for decades.

Oh I get that. Disney wants all the upfront profits with none of the upkeep costs.
The poster I was replying to seemed to think that the cabins should’t be gutted but gave zero details on why she thought that.
I was just curious because most everything I have read states that they are really run down.

Possible dumb question ahead, can one use a Ecv to get around the fort. We would not buy there, but maybe stay in a cabin for a few days. of course , then have the issue of what to do with scooter Over night.

And generators (even after quiet hours, I'm sure). I'm not sure about anyone else's home, but at my house you can hear the air blowing out of the dryer vent and that's about it. Standing right next to it.

So are we trying to jam a washer/dryer into an oversized studio so we can justify (for some) 2bdrm villa prices? When it's around 60% the size of a 1 bdrm? Really?

I can’t see them getting anywhere near 2 bedroom point charts but I have been wrong before and could be wrong again. I was shocked when the charts came out for RIV and thought no one would buy in and pay the high points per night considering location and resale restrictions. Most people didn’t bat an eye.

I personally don’t care if it has a laundry or not but it would be hard for Disney to market these/price these at a 1 bedroom point chart or higher if they don’t.

Agreed. You could make the argument that they couldn't (shouldn't?) charge more than a lower tier studio if it didn't have a washer/dryer. Maybe even if it did. Going from 800+/- sq. ft. for a 1 bdrm down to 500 for a trailer (at a moderate resort) and charging anywhere close to 1 bdrm prices would be absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. Size matters in this case. As does location.

Riviera is a very nice resort, though, I must say.
