I noticed I still have about $7.00 left in my FSA spending account for 2010. Can I still file a claim on that money in January? (yes, I have plenty of claims I could file from this year) Or should I run out real quick and buy some meds, lol. Thanks!

Most companies give you until the end of March to file those claims. Some have a longer mail time (USPS goes until September).

Some also have a grace period where you can have dates from January 1-March 15th to use up the prior years fund.

Most plans will allow you to file 2010 expenses until 2-28-11.

if you still have expenses to file I would just do that, unless you NEED to stock up on OTC stuff.

(at first I wondered what the difference was, then I realized you must have a flex card to buy the meds with. We have one but never use it, as it's worth the hassle of filing for reimbursement to get the rewards on our credid card).

ETA - *our* plan allows until the end of Feb. Looks like other plans allow even longer to file. :)

Our plan allows us a grace period to file. But we can't use our card to get to the old year's money. We have to send in receipts and wait for a check.

Run out and buy some OTC meds. You won't be able to next year without a prescription.

Thanks everyone! I'll just file a claim next week :). Happy New Year!
