I know that sounds "rough"...:rotfl:

But really, I went to a new nail place today, and NOBODY spoke a lick of English there. I'm all for chasing the American dream and all of that, but really...shouldn't at least one person in the salon be able to hold a conversation in English, or at least answer questions? The communication gap was very frustrating!!!

If the nail employees spoke English your Pedi would of cost $200.00

Lol- the last time I went to get a pedicure, I ended up saying yes to a manicure, not knowing what I was being asked. :lmao: However, the fact that I can get a good mani/pedi for $18 makes the language barrier worth it. :cool1:

I am surprised because usually the owner speaks English. I have been to several nail salons in the past 5 years and the owners spoke English while the workers spoke varying degrees of broken English.

At my mani/pedi last week my manicurist was out and the replacement cut one of my fingers with a tool. I have acrylic nails so the one of the tools is a little electric sander. It jumped while on my nail and caught the skin. It hurt!

I think if the majority of clients speak English, then at least one person working there should be able to speak a bit of English.

WOW! The cheapest mani/pedi in my neck of the woods is $36.

this happened to a friend of mine, only it was her toe. ( during pedi )
she ended up with an infection which spread to the bone.
she was out of work ( nurse) for a long time because of it.

It is very common here in So Florida for no one in the salon to speak English. You just have to search for one that does have English speakers. One of the bad things is that often they claim to speak English but really aren't able to communicate in English. I have finally found a barber shop where the daughter speaks beautiful English and now go to her for my haircuts and mani/pedi. Keep searching.

I find the non-English speakers at the place I go to are pretty good at being mimes. It does bug me when they start carrying on conversations in their native language while working on me. I wondered a couple of times if they were talking about my funky feet.

I go to an acual Salon/Spa instead of one of those mall places and everyone speaks English there.

What is funny is most of the workers at "those" nail places speak enough english to converse. Playing dumb seems to pay more then actually talking to clients and they can talk to each other about the clients they have sitting in the chairs.

Beware though---My daughter had nails put on for prom. When the time came for refill or to have taken off she picked to have nails removed. The worker pulled the nails off with out proper care before hand and left daughter with nail pads that were VERY thin and hurt her. I took her to family Doctor that stated she had badly damaged nail beds. Took forever for nails to grow back and cover nail beds properly.

She now pays the going rate in our area and has never had an issue. Oh ya ,she speaks very good English.

No flames please as this was our experience -- you may have other experiences.

i refuse to patronize salons like that. It's a peeve of mine. It was hit or miss for a while but I found a salon where they speak english.

This has been my experience as well. My girls practice their English with me so I don't mind it one bit that we can't fully have a conversation. I also tend to get extra massage time.

I do assume they are talking about me when they are speaking in their native tongue! Oh, well. I give them credit because they can speak one language and a bit of another and are learning. More than I can say for myself.

I LOVE that Anjelah Johnson video!!!!!

$18 is extremely cheap!
My nail salon everyone speaks full english.......they talk to me the whole time which I like because then I know they arnt talking ABOUT me. They do an amazing job and no language barrier is partly the reason I keep going back.
