OK gang; I need some help. I finished the WDW Marathon in January. My new goal is to do the Goofy next year but do it 30lbs lighter (which would be a very healthy weight for me). Since the marathon, I've begun cross training a lot more, last week, I had double digit run miles, and I have started to eat a lot healthier. WHY AM I STILL GAINING WEIGHT??????? I lost it tonight. I didn't work out at all, I ate 3 helpings of supper with desert on top of that. I feel awful and I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. I need to drop pounds, if for nothing else than to keep my sanity.

I can empathize with your frustration--and have had those days myself. Too many to count. I have a hard time losing weight when I'm in training for a race and actually tend to gain weight.

Have you tracked your intake? I know you're expending a lot of energy, but to fuel for those double-digit runs you might be taking in more than you realize? I use SparkPeople right now, as post-Disney marathon I still wasn't losing weight. I was stunned at how many calories I was taking in for recovery, and needed to shift my eating. Heck, just seeing the carbs/protein/fat breakdown of my diet helped me make different choices. (Sparkpeople's calorie counters will show you these things.)

Also, as athletes we have different needs than more sedentary folks. Runner's World offers a section on their website for Nutrition and Weight Loss. Have you checked that out? Here's an article on the 10 Rules of Weight Loss for runners. In terms of XT and running, you know you're doing good things for yourself. Your body might have become really efficient, though, and so you might want to challenge yourself with intervals, higher intensity, higher weights, a different order.

Most important, know you're not alone. It's a real struggle to figure out the balance between being fueled to complete the runs--and OMG the Goofy training--and losing weight. Right there with you.

Ed, I couldn't say it any better than Debra.

Here's to WISHing you a downward progress once more.

I use Sparkpeople too and have found that quite eye opening.

If that is not working then I wold also try splitting your meals as in trying to eat the proper portions but in 2 sittings. Your body may be thinking it is in starvation mode by holding onto those few calories it is getting and if you split the meals you may get some relief.

Thanks, y'all. I've got an appointment with a trainer in 3 weeks (going to WDW in 2 and am not worried about weight:goodvibes ). He said that he would go over nutrition with me. I'm starting to think that's it, too. Thanks again for your support.
