Last night after realizing we might not get seats together we paid to pick our seats. On our 2 cross country legs we were not able to get 3 seats together. DD and I were together and DH was across the aisle on one leg and a row in front on the other. So today I checked to see if there was anything together and there was so I booked us all 3 together in one row. On 1 leg I had to change just DH's seat and on the other move DD and I. Well after I did that the new seats were booked, but the ones I booked last night were dropped from our reservation. I called Air Tran and they couldn't get our seats back yet. They said I had to just keep checking until they showed back up in inventory.

I just want my seats back so we can sit together on a 5+ hour flight. DD is only 2 and DS at 2 months is also with us. We NEED to be together.

Keep checking your reservation... typically if you try to move seats, but someone else has already grabbed them, you are left in the seats your originally had. Keep looking and hopefully all will work out.

I don't blame you for trying to do what you did, I would have done the same. Best of luck.

Yeah, it turned out on one flight DH didn't have a seat and on the other DD and I didn't have one. I called back and got someone who could help me. She opened up row 29 which is blacked out online and put us there. Yeah, it is in the back of the plane but we are together, which is most important with 2 little ones.

We have flown AirTran once and both down and back we asked people to switch seats with us once we boarded, and they were happy to trade so we could sit together.

With more and more people paying for their seats - this is less likely to happen. In the future book with Kayak and save the fees!

Sorry, if I paid for the seat I wanted there's no way I would trade with you so you could sit together because you chose not to pay for seat assignments.

You did right by buying the seating assignments, it's a shame they dropped them on you... Keep trying! I'm sure it will all work out as you board the plane. IRL, people are kinder than you think & you've done what you can.

I used to think this too but if you do a search of this board - you will see stories about people who were seperated from their family or were on a plane where they were seperated and they were not able to work it out.

I definitely used to think - oh someone will switch with me but now I just don't think it is worth the risk.

We've been very lucky to get our seats together with our recent travel.

That being said there are days when I think "If only they could put DH and the kids together and bump me to first class!"
