So I've been doing my own thing for about 5 weeks now and doing really well - basically limiting carbs to only 1 meal per day and trying to make them complex carbs (whole wheat pasta, etc.), very limited sugar, lots of veggies, water & exercise.

Last week I tried to increase my fruits and veggies intake by having 2 fruits per day (pineapple and unsweetened applesauce) and I noticed that my mid-week weigh-ins (bad I know) weren't as good. I've long suspected that I'm sensitive to pure sugar (cookies and such) and not so much carbs - I can have carbs in moderation and still lose weight. So now I'm wondering about the fruit? The pineapple (packed in juice) seemed really sweet to me so I'm wondering if I could be sensitive to the sugar in fruit and should cut back. Any thoughts?

Pineapple does have a lot of sugar in it.

Your body burns fuels in order:
1. alcohol
2. sugar/carbs
3. fat

If you drink alcohol - your body will be busy burning that off first, so it won't get to the sugars and fat.

If you eat extra sugar (in "sugar" form, or in fruit!) your body will be too busy burning off the sugar to be able to get to the fat.

So, if you eat a fruit that has a lot of sugar in it (pineapple, bananas, mangos, etc.) you will notice your weight loss will slow down.

Fruit is good for you! So, don't cut it out completely - just maybe try to stick to the fruits that have a lower sugar (carb) count. Berries are the best!

Pineapple contains quite a bit of natural sugars. Only 1/2 cup of canned pineapple has 9.2 grams of carbs.

1/2 cup of fresh pineapple has 8.7 grams of carbohydrates.

Applesauce is the killer here. 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce 12.3 grams of impact carbohydrates.

A pretty high carb price for such a small amount of fruit.

Berries are much lower, most of them, anyway. Instead of pineapple or applesauce try strawberries (3.4 grams for 1/2 cup) or raspberries (3 grams in 1/2 cup)

1/4 canteloupe (5" diameter melon) is about 5 grams of carbs.

Just change your choice of fruits and you will most likely see better results on your scale.

LOL, Rhonda we must have been typing our replies at the same time, I swear your reply wasn't there when I started typing ;)

Wow I had no idea that pineapple and applesauce had so much carbs in them! That would explain things though because the first couple weeks I had been treating myself to a bowl of strawberries w/splenda after dinner to soothe that wicked sweet tooth and had no problems trying to lose.

Thanks so much for the info - I love most fruits in the berry family so I'll be just as happy to make the switch!

Just watch out for blueberries (8.3 in 1/2 cup) :)
