Ok, I'm looking at the menu and the only thing that looks good to me is the scallop appetizer.

First, has anyone had that? Is it good?

Second, what items do people think are best on that menu? I'm not that worried since we always have LOTS of food choices on board, but I'd still prefer to enjoy dinner with the family rather than waiting to eat quick service.

From our August 2016 Alaska Cruise:

For appetizer/salad/soup: DD17 loved Sven's carrot soup, I liked the beet salad--wafer thin slices of beets with microgreens and dressing. DH liked the duke of weselton's meats/cheeses. I thought the Jarlsberg tart was just 'ok'--it was basically a quiche without much flavor.

Entrée: DH had the Bulda's vegetable lattice and liked it. I LOVED Hans' boar (basically very tender pork), DD17 loved Anna's salmon.

Dessert: both Olaf's White Chocolate Floro Dome and the Pannekaken were good. DH had the warm apple pudding cake. DD13 and I actually had the sweet temptations which they don't have any more--but it had a mini floro dome, pannekaken, and a blueberry cake?

I view cruises as a time to branch out and try something new. I've got a few things that I just refuse to eat out of personal preference, but if there isn't anything on the menu that jumps out at me as something I want, I'll pick something that sounds 'interesting.' If I don't like it, I can always request something different be brought out. So far I've never had to do that, but it's always an option. There is a simple salmon, chicken, and steak dinner under Lighter Note Offerings if all else fails.

When we did Alaska last year, nothing jumped out as something I really wanted, so I opted for the Jarlsburg Tart, Sven's Carrot Soup, and Hans's Juniper Wild Boar, with the Pannekaken for dessert. I wasn't sure about the boar, but was very surprised. It was lean, tender, and very good. I'd certainly order it again. If I remember right, my wife had the Herb Roasted Chicken and enjoyed that.

That's two votes for the boar.

I guess I should clarify that I'm a really adventurous eater, but I just couldn't get excited about this particular menu. Like I said, I know I'm not going to go hungry, but I'm also open to recommendations. :D

I like trying new things, and last year on the Alaskan cruise, I too tried the boar & loved it! I would definitely have it again.

That scallop thing is amazing. If I were sailing today, I would have the charcuterie board as an appetizer and two scallop dishes for main course. The Norwegian pancake dessert was wonderful too!

I can't remember exactly what all we ordered, but this was the favorite menu night for my family. The food to me seemed the most fresh. Hard to explain. The descriptions did seem a little unique, but we really enjoyed the menu.
