Frozen - Live at the Hyperion / Tips & Review

Did you notice if those with the DAS card had to wait for a very long time in line? I am trying to avoid that with my son who has special needs.

Anyone with a DAS, wheelchair, ECV, or visible challenge was immediately admitted to the Handicapped section, and was let in after the VIP section but before everyone else. They officially closed all sections 20 minutes before show time.

I am not sure if there is an alternate area option, but today at 5:15, there were probably 200 people waiting in the DAS section to be let in. The section was pretty full the 45 min or so we were waiting in the orchestra section. They were let in earlier than the general audience, but they were waiting a long time in a fairly crowded space (although markedly less so than the general areas).

We loved it! There were no show delays. I don't want to give spoilers, but it was great. I'm not positive it has the repeatability of Aladdin year after year, but it was totally worth the trouble yo get fast passes.

There are reports today that the fastpasses now specify which section you are to sit in: balcony, mezzanine or orchestra. I wish we could still choose...

Good show but I don't see it having the same repeat interest as Aladdin did.

Yikes! I saw a photo on Instagram of a FP with the section specified. I hope they're only testing this...or it would be nice if folks could choose which section they want. It will be interesting see what they do going forward.

Disneyland Today confirmed that they are using section specific FPs for Frozen. Guests cannot select which section they want; they're distributed in order (just like they do for WoC), staring with Orchestra, then Mezzanine and ending with the Balcony.

Interesting but can see why. As it can be difficult to keep people in sections and perhaps this allows no arguments about where to sit or could help lines. It might be for awhile while it's still a hot ticket or a test to see if it works better.

I hope it's just a test. It seems silly to have people sitting in the mezzanine who want to be in orchestra while people are in orchestra who prefer to be in mezzanine.

It wasn't happening two days ago. That's a strange news report.

Here's my review:
Frozen Stage Show - On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 7. Others in my family gave it much much worse. It has many flaws. The show is way to long as it drags in many parts. The theatrics are well done. I like the CGI, staircase scene, and the sleigh ride moment in the show. Olaf needs a bigger part with more dialogue. Every word is straight from the movie. Wish it was more of an adaptation. The wardrobe on Anna is a little sleazy in my opinion. Why does she have a dress with nothing over the shoulder? Doesn't look right to me. We didn't see the color blind casting in our version but the singing moments were not as good as Aladdin. Heck they weren't as good as Mickey and the Magical Map. I know its only a week old but it was disappointing.
We got there at 8am and the line was all the way to the first store on the left of Buena Vista Street. I was shocked. It moved very fast and we got tickets for the first showing at 12:30 I believe the time was. I then headed over to World of Color and got Yellow tickets and then over to get RSR and got 12:45 tickets.
The show was stopped at one point for about 5 min and it disrupted the show. Luckily it was early on.
I have no need to see it again, which is sad in my opinion.

I finally made it to the park today (Saturday, June 11) with Frozen being the main reason. Entered DCA at 9:10am and surprisingly, there was no line for Fastpasses. We walked right up to a machine with no wait. There were other guests getting FPs too. I don't want to imply we were the only ones there, but it wasn't crowded enough that required guests to wait in queue. We got the 2nd show (2:35pm) and yes, there were sections assigned. Thankfully, it was the section we wanted, the Mezzanine. When we went to line up later for the show, I asked a CM and she said the FPs ran out around 11am.

Like a few others posted, the show did stop once for technical difficulties, but restarted in less than two minutes. I'm not a huge fan of the film, but I thought it was a pretty good stage adaptation. There were a lot of cool technical effects and the performers were all very talented. I do hope the seating section assignments is temporary, although I probably won't be watching it too often. Once the demand cools down so that you don't have to get there so early to secure a FP, I'll probably go more often. :)

Going tomorrow… Do I want Orchestra or Mezzanine? We preferred Mezzanine for Aladdin. Also, we would prefer the second show, but I have no idea what time I should get in line for this…

Got in line at 8:12, reached the front at 8:20 - 12:35 mezzanine was available. Got back in line hoping for 2:30 mezzanine and got those at 9:00. They still had 12:30 balcony but where handing those out to people who wanted them.

Interesting...I wonder if that means they only distributed orchestra and mezzanine in order. In other words, it goes first show orchestra, first show mezzanine, second show orchestra, second show mezzanine, etc. and if you wanted a first show, but they're onto the second show, you can see if they still have any balcony left. That would be much better than making folks take a balcony FP because that does seem to the least popular viewing area. I still like the old system (no assigned seating areas) best, but this would be an improvement.

it was in order but people where choosing to wait for the next show so they had a lot of people standing around waiting and no one taking the remaing balcony tickets. I feel sorry for those that stood in line and will be surprised to find out they have to be in balcony - I'm sure many didn't realize this.

Is there a map of the seating sections? I have never been inside the theater. Trying to decide where to sit when we see the show in Feb.

The only seating diagram I've seen is the one posted outside of the theater and it's not terribly detailed. There are three sections (Orchestra = ground floor, mezzanine = second floor, and balcony = third floor). If you google "Hyperion Theater Disneyland Seating" you can get a sense of the theater.
