I heard the news about the Frozen Summer deal at Hollywood Studios and my heart sank.

We are going to be there three days too late.

Now...let me preface....my daughter turns five in August and we are going September 4th for her birthday. As adults, we have not been to Disney since the 80s.

I freaked when I heard the news. This would be PERFECT for her. I even went so far as to call BBB....we could do it before MNSSHP on the 1st. There was a CRT before Rope Drop. Akershus and more. Even the GF had decent rates.

Should I switch my plans?

What we would NOT be able to do....upgrade to deluxe dining, eat at California Grill during sunset, go to HDDR ( since MK is closing early this was a great excuse for a night outside of the park!), try Jiko!, have a pre park opening BBB and then eat at CRT on our first day in MK......

Guess what I decided....we are not switching our plans. My fingers are crossed that there is going to be some carryover from Frozen...maybe keeping the singalong? Maybe by then there will be a fast pass.

I was afraid that with no fast passes that HS would be mobbed! Think about everyone locally that will drive in just to go to the parks.

I would hate for our overall wonderful experience to be riddled with five hour waits and such just to see one show, or parade, or fireworks...even though it kills me since those will be pretty great.

So....I write this with a heavy heart. My Frozen lover will not be going to see this special event. Hopefully she will not even know that this is coming to Disney......unless they start running commercials on Disney Jr. Hello Mine Train! :)

I think that's totally cool. We are going to be there anyway, but I wouldn't move a trip over it. I think it's going to be cute, but I don't think it's going to be amazing and I do think it's going to be crazy crowded. I bet they will keep the singalong after the end date.

Maybe you will luck out an have daughters like mine. They love the princesses but when they saw the line in Norway (march ) they said "dad we will see them another time, there so much more to do"
Well did they get lots of ice cream on that trip.
My DDs are 7 & 3

Don't feel bad about not switching plans. Like you said..... maybe there will be some carry over, or maybe there will be something even better happening with the frozen girls at HS or even another park but the time September rolls around. :goodvibes

I'll confess that I haven't been following the new Frozen offerings closely, but I don't see how going during Frozen Summer precludes one from doing all the things that you describe. Maybe if this were fleshed out a bit more I would have a better understanding. As far as I know, California Grill is still operating during the Frozen Summer. Right?

I wouldn't change I have spent too many hours planning to change for anything. As much as my older daughters love Frozen, the first thing I thought of was, our trip in July will already be extremely busy, and we chose by the crowd calendar for our park days, I think it will be a zoo, hoping the days we aren't in HS, the other parks will not be as busy. There is always 2 ways of looking at it. Your daughter will have a magical experience for her birthday, with all you have planned, she will never know the difference!

You have amazing plans for your trip and your DD will have a wonderful first visit! I answered on your other thread and just wanted you to know that it's been reported contracts for the specific performers, such as the figure skaters for the Frozen pond and the "friend of Elsa" with a wide vocal range, do end on September 1st. So, focus on all that you have planned and DD will always remember her birthday trip to WDW! :)

I think you're making the right decision. I think if you were to change everything, you really would miss out on more than what you'd be gaining. You already have wonderful plans for your family, and while attending the Frozen events one day could potentially be amazing (or crazy due to crowds) I don't think it'd be worth it to give up the plans you already have. We just got back a couple of days ago from our trip. Imagine my disappointment when reading the email announcing all that will be coming. We were so close! However, we had a magical trip. It was our best trip yet. As disappointed as I was in knowing we just missed out on the Frozen events, I wouldn't change anything about our trip. If the Frozen events were occurring, it would probably have been a crazy zoo and potentially added stress to my trip and actually taken away enjoyment. Either way, go with the option you think your family would enjoy the most and don't stress about what you'll be missing--be it the Frozen activities or the other activities if you choose to change your trip date.

I totally think all the Frozen stuff in DHS will last beyond the summer ... probably indefinitely. Most posts I've seen have agreed. I just don't see Disney embarking on something this sweeping based on something this popular and just doing it for a few months. Am I missing something? :confused3

I think they're marketing it as a summer thing to drum up business, but I think everyone involved knows it's not just for summer. Just my 2 cents.

Ditto.

We arrive to WDW on 8/30 and I had planned 8/31 as our DHS day. DHS is my least favorite park by far so I was was thinking our trip was going to start off as a bit of a dud. I'm looking forward to the Frozen additions, but I would not totally change my trip just to see the Frozen stuff. Who knows how good it will be, anyways. Sometimes Disney hypes something and it's awesome, and other times it's not (like when everyone was excited about the Jungle Cruise Christmas overlay last year...what a downer.)

We're not switching our plans, nor do I think anyone should. We arrive Sept 10th and while my daughter would LOVE this (okay, I would love it too ;) ) We will still have a great trip if we miss this event.

I am holding out hope that it gets extended, I mean... its still hot in September so it is sorta still "Summer".... plus Frozen is SO big right now and DHS really needs this boost... they would be stupid not to extend this. I'm hoping that they will get such a large boost and response that they keep it :goodvibes:goodvibes

I think they are waiting to commit to it until they know if it will be successful (which we all know that it will). I also think they are using it as PR to get people into DHS (which really needs it anyways)... it is sorta a genius move on their part :thumbsup2

I hope it gets extended and eventually something good comes from the Frozen mania... like a ride or a restaurant... something!!!

The only good part of this Frozen-mania for me is that it would siphon crowds away from other stuff in the park. Maybe able to get on TSMM without a an hour wait!

But with TSMM closed for at least an hour each night due to the Frozen fireworks fall-out, lines will probably remain long throughout the day.

It will be interesting to see if they continue this throughout Sept!

I'm sorry....what??? Close TSMM for fireworks? Is that a thing???

I'll punch me a snowman.

I don't get why they would close TSMM either. Best time to ride it is during Fantasmic. I didn't think they had to close anything for fireworks?

I would pay good money if they took the pooh characters out of crystal palace, gave them a set meet and greet so you could meet all of them, and turned crystal palace into a character meal with all the newer princesses, merida, rapunzel, and A&E.

And I imagine a fair number of heads would spin if they had princesses take over another existing character meal. That said, I wish they'd do something different with that gorgeous venue. I mean, we met the same 4 characters on our first trip there in 1999. I'd love if they'd do what they do with the Plaza Inn at DL and mix it up with a variety of characters.
