Frozen Fun at the Beach Club! Our First Disney Trip Dec. 3- 11*Update 5/1*

Found your report this evening and am hooked!! Can't wait to hear all about your trip!

Welcome! I hope you enjoy it.
Sounds great! I hope you had a fun time, I can't wait to hear all about it!

We had a great time! Some of the things I planned didn't turn out to be as great as I thought but there were several unexpected surprises as well.

I am in too! We just booked BC for DD's 4th birthday trip! I also am excited to hear about the illuminations dinner... :goodvibes
Ill be posting about my Illuminations Dinner tonight, I think you'll love it!
I'am in!! Can't wait to read your report!! :yay:

Welcome! :cheer2:

Excited to hear about your trip report!! You have really nice pictures!! Can't wait to see the rest! Love the shirts BTW!! Were those customized? Never seen them before.:thumbsup2

Thanks! I wish I had my trip report in mind when I took the pictures but I didn't think that far ahead. I didn't take any food pics and I wish I had.
We got alot of attention with our "Life is Good" Shirts. I made them from a design right here on the Creative DISigns Board. I believe it was a "RustManFan" creation, but I'll check on that to make sure. I put a black border around it and even did a small, round "Life is Good" logo on back by the neck. I bought the shirts at Old Navy. I hope I don't get in trouble for copyright infringement! I thought they turned out pretty well and lots of people stopped us to ask about them.

Just found your TR and am joining in!

Can't wait to hear all about your first disney vacation:goodvibes

Hello! Welcome.

I'm in too! Your daughters are adorable!
I Can't wait to read more! :)

Thank you!

Looking forward to reading more :goodvibes I've just booked a split resort stay incorporating the BC for my November trip, it's somewhere I've loved the look of but never quite made it, I'm determined to make it this time!

I think you will glad you did. I don't think I could stay anywhere else now.

Really excited to read your Day 1 post!!!

Thanks for the kind words about the info on the YC/BC thread. Some of us refer to it as the "friendliest thread on the DIS boards" It is a great distraction to real life!

OK, wow, you are already on page 2 with readers!!! Probably too late to save a post for links- but here is the info because I wish I had it:

In the next post after your intro, immediately make another post that says:
Saved for Chapter Links
Then you can go into that link and edit with links directly to your chapters.

Go to the post number of your chapter- say your "Checkin at the Beach Club" is post #20. Right mouse click on the post number to copy the shortcut link, then edit your second "saved" post:
Type "Checkin at the Beach Club" then PASTE the shortcut you have saved.

Of course I haven't done this on my report. :rolleyes1 I keep trying to decide if I am going to edit my first post and add chapter links there, but I'm almost finished with my report!

Edit: DOH!!! I just occured to me that I am your second post!!! I could add your chapter links if you want me to...
When you get your post up, I will do a sample and you can let me know if you like it.

And finally, to edit the main title of your report, Next to the title "Frozen Fun at the Beach Club" if you want to say "Updated 1/16, Check in at the Beach Club", so it appears that way in the thread listing on the TR forums, you would edit your first post, click on "Go Advanced" and go to the very top to access the title of the report. Took me awhile to learn how to do that.

Yeah, I think I might be too late on the chapter thing. If I have time I'm going to go back and see if I can edit. But until then if you could put in the Chapter Links that would be great, and so nice of you! I will be working on the edit of the main title in the morning, luckily no work tommorow!

OK....the frozen part has me hooked. We are headed to the BC for the first time a week from Thursday and I'm so excited but at the same time worried it's going to be FREEZING. (we're coming from chilly VA, but I'm a Florida girl by birth and I was hoping for a break from this cold!)
And our couples' dynamic is the opposite of yours....I'm the thrifty one, and my husband is the one who says "sure, club level, awesome! Let's do it!" Secretly I'm afraid our stay is going to ruin me for all future trips. We usually stay at POP, but have also stayed at moderates and AKL and WL. But I have wanted to stay at BC/YC forever because of the location.
Don't worry too much about it being cold, I think we just ran into a "freak" cold snap.
Oh, to hear my husband say "Club Level" would make my heart so happy!
Ha! It will so ruin you for future trips! The location sealed the deal for us.
You know it's funny, when I'm at home I am the coupon queen. If there is a discount or a coupon out there I must have it. I smuggle snacks in my purse to the movies and take my lunch to work. But I just can't do it on vacation.
Honestly, I would rather cut back at home and go all out on vacations. Good thing my hubby is there to rein me in or I would have the family eating beans
every night so we go first class on trips!

I am here, just recently switched from CR to Beach Club. It will be our first stay at BC and very excited, can not wait to read more of your TR

I think you will love Beach Club, I'll try and give lots of details of the resort.

I slept pretty well considering how excited I was, but still woke up at 5:30 ready to get started. Our flight did not leave until noon so I sent the girls on to school for a few hours before we had to leave for the airport. Robert went to run some last minute errands so this left me wonderfully, blissfully alone!
I had worked hard the few days before we left so maybe I could have a calm morning. The bags were packed, the house was clean, the Christmas tree was up and we girls had freshly painted red toes complete with a black Mickey Mouse head. Robert picked the kids up from school and his Mom came by to take us on the short drive to the airport. The night before I had surprised the kids with goodies for the trip

The round boxes are filled with Disney dollar items from Target, t-shirts and pajamas. Here are the pajamas I made from the Creative DISigns Board. I made myself the same ones and Robert had Red plaid pajama bottoms and a black shirt. I also gave the girls a charm bracelet with their first charm (an airplane). They would receive a charm each day to add to their bracelet that matched what we would be doing that day. The Potato Heads, of course, would be taken along to buy parts at the Potato Head Bar at Downtown Disney

The Oklahoma City airport is never too busy, but when we arrived we found it almost dead for a Friday. We made it through security with no problems and stopped for lunch before boarding. My early morning and all the running around the week before was starting to catch up with me , Ashton was busy texting her friends before she was cut off for the week and Robert was not quite as excited as I imagined he would be going off to the "happiest place on
earth"! I could tell he was preoccupied with getting last minute things settled at work and was checking and sending messages. Only Avery was completely in the moment and oh so excited. Hopefully, the airplane ride would transport us into another world far from work, e-mails, texting and stress!

Great start to your vacation, hopefully the excitment kicked in for the rest of your family once you actually arrived.

Looking forward to hearing about your arrival at the Beach Club:goodvibes

Very cute trip gifts and matching pjs and shirts!

So nice that you had some quiet alone time before the trip. I had that last year- it was take your kids to work day at my husband's office, so he and the boys were gone most of the day, allowing me to attend to all those last minute details.

I try to plan what I am wearing to have some significance to which park we are visiting, but we haven't done the matching shirt route. Heck, I'm just happy if the boys have CLEAN shirts!

A shout out to RUSTMANFAN- I think he helped design the Y&BC DIS pins featured on the FAQ site.

Thank you so much for the Chapter Title, it looks great. I made several things with RUSTMANFAN's creations. Those DISign people are so talented!
Too funny about the matching shirts, you'll have to try for it on your next trip!

The flight went smoothly, I had loaded the IPad with episodes of ICarly for the kids and they were content to watch those and play with the stuff in their goody bags. I took out my Southern Living, I had been hoping to read, and the time passed quickly. We had a short layover in Atlanta and before you knew it we were landing in Orlando. Robert decided this would be a good time to start asking questions about the trip. He had remained pretty uninvolved about the whole thing. Once we had the money issues settled, he was content to let me do all of the planning. I spent the first few months trying to get him to plan where to stay, where to eat and surprises for the girls but I was met with a few minutes of polite "uh-huhs" and "that doesn't cost anymore money does it?" and after that just the glassy stares husbands give when they are not really listening to you anymore. I finally just realized he isn't into planning the trip and kept my excitement for the disboards and a friend who was also planning a Disney trip. About ten days before we left Disney sent out a welcome e-mail with all our trip info., this he decides to read. A few minutes later I hear him say, Traci, I think they have our reservation messed up, aren't we staying at the red hotel, this one is blue?? Whhaattt!! I say looking at the computer. Nope, it says Beach Club resort, it's right. A year of planning and he doesn't know where we are staying! I finally realized he thought we were staying at "Carribbean Beach". Well , I guess that means he was looking at pictures at some point and was a little more interested than I thought. Anyway, back to the plane, as we are landing he begins getting concerned about all the arrangements, "how are they going to know where to take our luggage?, how are we getting to the resort?, how are we going to find this "Magical Express"?" I reassured him that all was taken care of and he just needed to relax! Geesh, what did he think I'd been doing this past year.
We found the ME line completely empty and were quickly boarded onto the bus and were on our way. By this time it was almost 6:00 and dark outside so there wasn't much we could see outside so we watched the cute video and after several stops at other resorts we made it to the Beach Club.
I was about to burst with excitement, I couldn't wait for my family to see the resort and Storm-along-Bay! A CM met us on the way in to welcome us, she even knew our last name, loved that! She stood with us while we started checking in and getting our packet. It was pretty crowded and we had to wait but this gave us a few minutes to take in the our surroundings. The girls wanted to go see the gingerbread carousel so off they went. I stood looking around at the lobby I had only seen in pictures as I was planning. I knew from my research that the BC lobby isn't as big and grand as some of the resorts but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm, and charming it is!

After being reassured by the CM checking us in that we did have the full balcony room I requested and the welcome gift I'd ordered from "Memories by Betsy" would be delivered soon we went to discover our room for the week.
We were on the second floor, just a few doors away from the stairs to the main lobby and where all the action is, I was very pleased with our location.

The girls fought over who got to open the door first, but Robert opened it himself and in we went. The room was beautiful, bigger than I thought it would be and very clean. I love beds with white duvets, they just look cleaner and more comfortable don't you think? There was a Mickey Mouse towel head on the bed. We girls went to check out the bathroom and the toiletries (that's one good thing about having girls they get into to stuff like toiletries!), next on to the balcony. I had booked a standard view and a standard view is what we got, it was a beautiful, breathtaking view of the.....
rooftops :confused3. I knew this would probably be the case so I wasn't that disappointed, I was just glad to have the full balcony so I could sit out there in the mornings while the rest of the family slept.

85410035-2.jpg

As we were exploring our rooms, bell services knocked on the door with our garden grocer delivery. I had ordered some things for breakfast, doughnuts, yogurt, fruit, etc. and water, diet coke, and since you can't get it in Disneyworld , Dr. Pepper for the rest of the family. A second knock a few minutes later and our "Memories by Betsy Basket" had arrived. Over the past 6 months or so I had been collecting things I thought would be fun for a "Welcome to the Beach Club" basket. I'm going to try and dig up a picture of the basket Betsy sent me by e-mail but until then I'll tell what was in it. It included two refillable mugs, sand toys, 2 "Squirt" (from Finding Nemo) stuffed turtles, 2 sand dollar charms for their bracelets, t-shirts with the Beach Club logo (I made them), Mickey Mouse Drink Cooler, and a fleece blanket I had monogramed with our last name ,Disney 2010 and a Mickey head. Except for the mugs, I had bought the items on clearance and mailed them to Betsy about a month before our trip, she put together the basket and sent it to the resort. She did a wonderful job and also did a Pirate Basket that was sent later in the week. The kids loved their welcome baskets and Robert his Beach Club shirt, as he was looking at the blanket he just kept asking me, "How did you do all this?" I could tell he was impressed with the room and the basket and was starting to realize this was going to be a wonderful vacation.

We hadn't eaten since lunch at the airport and everyone agreed we were ready to eat dinner. I had made ADR's at the new Mexican restuarant La Hacienda in Epcot for 8:30, an hour before Illuminations. So off we went to find the path to Epcot. After a quick peek at SAB, which was lit up and despite the chilly weather had plenty of people swimming. The guide books said that the walk to Epcot from the BC was 10-15 minutes so I was prepared for a longish walk. Boy, was I in for a surprise, the walkway to the International Gateway is beautiful, especially at night. The BC is lit up on one side of you with the Boardwalk lit up across the Bay, the path is landscaped with plants, trees and flowers and after just a minute or two of walking we saw the Epcot entrance and the Eiffel Tower in France. I could not believe how close and easy to get to it was. As we walked along that night as a family I could see at least some of the stress leaving us and our vacation "mood" was starting to set in. We went through the gate and headed toward Mexico, it was an Extra Magic Evening and it was crowded. I reassured my family that this would not be typical (I hoped) and we fought our way to the check-in podium at La Hacienda, the line was long and many people without ADR's were asking about being seated and were being turned away. When it was our turn, they found our name and gave us a beeper. We went to look around in the Mexico Pavillion, tried on the huge hats and 5 minutes later the beeper went off. As we were led past all of the poor people waiting in line I felt very "in the know" thanks to the disboards, for having everything so organized. I had requested a table as close to the window as possible for Illuminations and we were seated in the main room with just a table between us and the huge picture windows. I had warned my family ahead of time not to expect the Tex-Mex Mexican food we were used to in Oklahoma. We would be trying new things this week so keep an open mind!! We were brought chips and two different kinds of salsa, it was different but yummy. Ashton looked at the menu with a worried expression and said, "Where's the cheese dip, where's the tacos"? Hmmm.... I don't think she heard me. She decided the Queso Fundido was a close as she was going to get and ordered that, Avery got the kids Tacos (the kids menu has the regulars, chicken nuggets, tacos etc.) and Robert and I ordered the "La Hacienda" for two which is basically Fajitas but with authentic seasonings and vegetables. I have been a vegetarian for about 18 years, which is no easy task living in Beef Country, so the waiter brought me extra veggies and some cheese and our meal was delicious. Ashton was pleasantly surprised that the chorizo in her Queso meant sausage so she was a happy girl. The waiter came by and ask about dessert, now if you read up until now you know that Robert dislikes spending lots of money, usually the waiter asking about dessert would be met with a no, thanks. But since we were on the dining plan it was yes! yes, we will have dessert. I loved that! Dessert for every meal, oh how I came to love the dining plan.
As we were being served the dessert the family next to us and by the window got up and left. It was about 10 minutes before the start of Illuminations and these people left the most coveted table in the room!! I couldn't believe it and oh how I wanted that table! I had the urge to grab our dessert and move over, but I resisted. A few minutes later I heard the manager tell the bus boy clearing the table that they were about to make a family very happy. Sure enough a family of four was led in and seated just 2 minutes before Illum. started. After I got over the urge to stick my tongue out at them  I was glad they got a little magic too. My family had no idea Illuminations even existed much less that it was about to start and we had one of the best views in the park.
As the lights went down I turned to my family and said, "You might want to look out the window, I've arranged a little fireworks show for our first night at Disneyworld". Then the show started and it was magnificent! Very powerful and moving. Avery sat on my lap and was in awe and Ashton's face lit up. It is up there in my top five memories of our trip. As the show ended and the lights went up the waiter came with our bill. I had already warned Robert that we would be paying the tip on the amount it would have been without the dining plan, so he did so without grumbling and off we went.

By this time it was around 10:15, I thought everyone would be ready to go back and get to bed but nope they wanted rides!! I was using touringplans for our park days for the rest of the week but tonight was "play it by ear" so we headed for Test Track. The wait was about an hour and no one wanted to wait, they wanted rides, now!! There was no wait at Spaceship Earth so we rode that, very interesting but Ashton and Robert wanted a real ride!! I knew a short wait for Soarin' would be a long shot but we tried anyway and were pleasantly surprised with only a 30 minute wait. I had read about the ride but I had no idea how much I would love it, I mean really, really love it! You fly! At least you feel like you are flying, the views, the breeze in your hair, the smells! I didn't want it to end and it ended up being my very favorite ride of the week. Oh, just writing about it makes me wish I were there. It was pretty late by this time and with a "real ride' under our belts we were ready to go back and get some rest. As we headed out through the World Showcase, we found ourselves to be just about alone with only a few other people here and there. It was a lovely way to end our first day, walking back to the Beach Club with full tummies, a "real ride" checked off our list and the lights of Epcot all around us. I went to bed that night with dreams of flying over the Pacific Ocean.

Loved: Soarin' and "authentic" Mexican Food

Not So Much: Worrying about getting getting a great view from our Balcony,
it didn't turn out to be a big deal

If I had a Do-over: I would have ask for a table right next to the window at La Hacienda and been okay with waiting for it.

Up Next: Exploring the Beach Club and Dinner with some really mean sisters.

Absolutely loving your report so far! I could feel your excitement checking into the Beach Club, watching Illuminations and riding Soarin' for the first time! I know I'd be just like you for sure! hehe We're going to the Beach Club for 3 nights in February for the first time, so I'm really excited to hear what you have to say about it. Thanks so much for writing! :goodvibes

I love your writing style- I can really picture what is going on. Like the previous poster said, your excitement definitely comes through! It's great that your family is starting to recognize the magic you have already created during the trip. Awesome job on the La Hacienda Reservation! :thumbsup2

I was inspired to finally add chapter links to my report- spent a lot of my day doing that!

Thank you so much, it is good to have some feedback. I have a new appreciation for those writing trip reports, it takes alot of time! I will be leaving comments from now on when I read other peoples! I think you will love the Beach Club, I wish for you beautiful weather so you can enjoy SAB.

Thank you so much, that makes me feel really good! I was so proud of my La Hacienda Reservation. I just tried out my (thanks to you) chapter links, they work great! I'll bet you spent all day working on yours, like I said in the last post, trip reports take more time than I thought. Once I get my kids to bed I'm going to get started reading yours and I can assure you I'll be leaving comments and now there will be chapter links.:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I am enjoying your report!

We are staying at the BC for the 1st time in Nov.!!!!!!:santa:

Oh I LOVE your report and can't wait for more, and I love that you put it in blue, very easy to read.:thumbsup2. Be careful, we are DVC members at the Beach Club Villas, you may just bite the bullet and join! We did in 2002 and haven't looked back, still love this resort to pieces. So more please, thanks!!:)

Great report - can't wait to read more! You did a great job on the pjs and Life is Good shirts and all the fun surprises you've made. (I love the Creative DISigns board!) The charm bracelet was a great idea too.

The Beach Club looks beautiful! I've only been in the lobby, so I'm enjoying hearing more about the resort.

Looking forward to the next update!

Thanks! I think Nov. would be a great time to visit, if we get to go back I would choose Oct. or Nov., still not as busy as summer but great weather (meaning not freezing cold!!!).

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying it! Wow, how great to know that you get to go back to Disney and the Beach Club all the time. I would love to be able to go every year and maybe even take my grandchildren someday! I'll have another update ready this weekend.

Thank you, I was just going to make one t-shirt each for the girls, but then I found the DISigns board and I was hooked. I made t-shirts, invitations, goody bags, and on and on and on. I went through 3 color ink cartridges! Looking back I went a little overboard but I couldn't stop myself! More on the Beach Club in my next update!

Exploring the Beach Club and Dinner With Some Really Mean Sisters!

Oh, good he is getting some sleep! When I planned our days I purposefuly made our first day a "rest" day. Life, for Robert especially, has been way too hectic lately. In addition to his job, he has been working on his Doctorate and often works late into the night, studying and writing papers.
Throw in the extra job he works on Saturdays and attending the girls' activities in the evenings meant he was severely in need of some R&R. When he is not completely stressed he is the funniest person I know, he reverts back to being a big kid and cracks us all up with his antics. I wanted that guy back and Disney was just the place to find him!. But not until he got some sleep and a little "chilling out" time. So, I was really glad they were sleeping. As you moms out there already know something happens after you have kids that makes it really hard to sleep in. Maybe part of it is the promise of a few moments to yourself before the rest of the family is up and you can't even go to the bathroom alone. So at 6:30 a.m. I was wide awake and ready to go explore. I laid in bed as long as I could but at 7:30 I couldn't take it one more minute, got out of bed and as quietly as I could got ready, grabbed a refillable mug and went to check out the Yacht and Beach Club. As I left the silence of our room to the hustle and bustle of the main lobby I really got a "feeling" of being in a grand beach house. The lobby has a wonderful "beachy" smell and people are coming and going to breakfast or heading out to the parks or the pool for the day. I got my morning diet coke from the marketplace, shopped around a bit and headed outside. With all my worrying about the weather it was a bright, sunny day, and was already warming up (the frozen part comes later!). This was my first chance to see Stormalong Bay in the daylight and wow did it look fun, it's huge, with sandy areas for kids to build sandcastles, a waterfall and several hidden whirlpools, and of course the awesome "shipwreck" slide. As I walked the beautifully landscaped walkways towards the Yacht club side I passed couples having breakfast together at little tables outside the Solarium and explored the Lafferty Place Arcade, the steam room and jacuzzi in the Ship Shap Health Club a peek in the window at Beaches and Cream. I felt so happy and fortunate just to be here and looked forward to a day of swimming, getting some sun and showing my family this awesome resort.

Hoping everyone was up, I headed back to the room around 10:00, the girls were still asleep but Robert was up. We sat on the balcony for awhile and when the kids got up, had breakfast in the room, put on our swimsuits, grabbed the beach toys and found a spot by the pool to soak up some sun. The temp. was only 65 but it felt warmer. We spent the day playing in the sand, laying out and swimming (loved the feel of the sand-bottomed pool) and zipping down the slide (yes, me too).
DisneyWorld2010004-Copy-1.jpg

We had lunch at Hurricane Hannahs overlooking the beach and with Margaritaville playing in the background, both Robert and I commented on how it didn't even feel like we were at Disney, it was like being on a vacation on an island somewhere. We really liked that, it was like having two vacations in one. However, even with the laid back beach thing going on Robert was still kinda tense and quiet. Avery had set her beach pail, with her uneaten lunch in it, down as we were getting drinks and we had to go find it and then she accidently dumped her lunch all over the ground. Some of our order was missing, so another trip to the counter and a wait in line didn't help in improving his mood. Minor things of course, but not getting me any closer to my goal of getting him to relax . I got him back to his beach chair right away and with my first of too many Mickey ice cream bars, sat down next to him. This seemed to do the trick and we spent the next hour chatting about the trip and just enjoying the sunshine.

A little back story about my next picture. The same wonderful Grandmother who took my whole extended family (18 of us) on a cruise last January also takes the adult women ( my sister, mom, cousin,me) on a cruise every summer. We have been going every summer for ten years now. We mostly go to the Caribbean, but have been other places as well. This summer she is looking at a cruise out of New York to Bermuda. I told you she was a fabulous Grandmother! Anyway, every port I take a "feet" picture. I know, a little weird but it helps transport me to the beach on those long days at work.
So I had to have a "feet" picture of Stormalong Bay. So, if feet gross you out you have been warned....

cf3ea91b-1.jpg

GUESS THE CARIBBEAN ISLAND CONTEST!!!

This is my favorite "feet" picture from one of the ports on a cruise we took a couple of years ago. How about a little contest to see if anyone can figure out where it was taken? Both pictures are of the same place. I'll give you a one hint to start with, it's an island in the Caribbean. I'll give another hint if no one gets it. Sorry, the quality is not the best, they are pictures of pictures. Good Luck!

Any guesses??

It was a fun, relaxing day and I was really glad I had made the decision, many months ago, to stay away from the parks until tommorow.
We wanted to do a little shopping and the girls still needed to get autograph books so we tore ourselves away from our chairs and went back to the room to get ready to head to Downtown Disney and then to the Grand Floridian for dinner with Cinderella and the Stepsisters.

Up Next: Day 2 continued

I'll take a guess, is it St john's Megan's Bay beach? I'm dying for more of your story...

Great update! Did you notice if the Marketplace was very crowded when you got your diet coke?

I'll play! ;) Were you in St. Barts???
