Frozen at DCA limiting shows?

Hello all! We tried to take some friends to see Frozen at the Hyperion at DCA yesterday, but apparently it’s only playing Sun - Thurs now. Does anyone know why? Hollywood Land was completely packed last night, with lines to get into the Beast’s Library (!), the worst lines I’ve ever seen at the Animation Academy, and a 45 min wait for Monsters, likely due in part to people wandering around looking for alternatives.

I think it is stemming from the “low crowds” this summer. They cut entertainment. Which sucks because DCA needs entertainment with its lack of rides. It’s hard to be there all day.

Trained performers are expensive..... Disney has bills to pay with the Shanghai disaster.

To echo everyone else, it was part of the entertainment cutbacks last summer.

It is strange to me that they chose Friday and Saturday as the off days. One performer I know in the show said a lot of the actors are also trying to do other performing jobs, so they ended up with a lot of Friday/Saturday call outs? No idea if that factors in at all, but it’s an idea...

That would make a lot of sense actually (that those would be the two days performers would more likely call out, not that I can easily make a connection it influenced Disney's decision). Monday is traditionally equity day off so there's not a lot of performance opportunities on Mondays much of the time regardless if one is equity or not. I could see Friday and Saturday having more opportunities for smaller/short side gigs than most other days.

This show is incredible- I can’t believe we started going to DLR in June and didn’t see this show until January 27. Total bummer it’s dark Friday and Saturday because it’s the perfect thing to do on a crazy DCA day. We have to make this a priority next time we take my husband with us..... even my dad said it was one of the highlights of our trip and the perfect ending to my daughter’s bday trip!

I was going to start a thread to ask this question, but since I'm here...does anyone have an idea of how likely it is to be admitted to the show if you show up just 15 minutes before?

If you are ok with sitting up in the balcony/not getting prime seats you should be ok. I think the view is still fine from up there and really from most anywhere in the theatre.

It depends a lot on how crowded the park is and whether the weather is nice. When the park is very crowded and/or the weather is poor, it fills up much sooner, although it would be rare indeed to be “full” 15 minutes early... If you have a big group you’re trying to seat, that’s also different than if you’re just trying to squeeze 1-2 people in.

On the flip side of crowded, we went to the 5:00 show on Wednesday, January 15 (very low crowd day), and they only even opened the orchestra section because it was that empty!

Thank you for the insight! I'm glad I saw this thread and remembered to ask...also glad to know in advance that it won't be available our last day there! I totally missed that.
I was hoping to do this on our arrival day but of course who knows when we'll actually get to the parks since we'll be flying in the morning!

Since they have brought back original Soarin a couple times, I wonder if they would ever consider bringing back fan favorite Aladdin? That show was so good.😩

A lot easier to swap out a video than cast, rehearse, and perform a broadway play with sets, lighting and stage tech.

Sadly, for various reasons this is highly unlikely, some of the reasons include:
  • Major structural changes that were made to the Hyperion for the Frozen show, which would result in a lot of changes having to be made to the show, resulting in a show that probably would be as good as it was.
  • The previous manager for Aladdin is now the VP of Entertainment at Knott's and the quality of their shows demonstrate how brilliant of a move this was on Knott's part.
  • Part of what made Aladdin so great was the genie and hiring the caliber of performers that were necessary to pull that off is cost prohibitive, especially in this era of cutting entertainment.
Sadly, if you want Disney quality entertainment right now, you need to go to Knott's Berry Farm (see point above as to why this is happening), they seem to be constantly increasing their entertainment budget instead of cutting it as Disney seems to be insisting on doing.

We showed up 10 minutes before and got orchestra seats in the back section on the left about four rows back for 5 people. This was on a Monday for the 5pm show.

Thank you, all! I appreciate the insight. I knew they’d decreased the shows but didn’t realize that the show would be dark on a Saturday! We’re a bit Frozen’d out and just hadn’t been paying attention. Thank goodness for Animation Academy, which saved the evening!

Pay more, get less. Disney's motto. Today ticket/AP prices went up AGAIN. I am surprised we haven't seen more Live entertainment cut out, and/or reduced.

Looking at the schedule for frozen while in town (28feb-2mar).

I know Disney only have night entertainment on the weekend in low season. But it appears Frozen is only on on Sundays currrently, is this right?

I thought it would have been at least Friday, Saturday, Sunday likes Mickeys Magical Map in DL.
