I just read an article on CNN about airlines charging to fly standby. I had never even thought about going to the airport to see if there was room on an earlier flight before(who wouldn't want a couple extra hours at WDW???)

Does anyone know if all airlines participate in this practice? And if so how do you find out when the earlier flights are?

We are flying Frontier out of Milwaukee 3/5 in the afternoon.

Thanks :goodvibes

Edit: I found how to see their flight tables. Bummer, they only offer 2 flights out that day, one at 7:24am, which won't work since we have to get the kids to school before we leave, and the flight we are on. Oh well, still a good way to get the word out for other people if leaving earlier was an option.

Most US carriers charge a fee for non elites; there is usually a difference between confirmed same day standby which occurs within a set time window, and standing by at the gate.

International carriers tend to do this only for a significant change fee.

Standing by at the gate is usually not recommended for those who want/must be seated together, as flights are flying at capacity these days and the remaining seats tend to be scattered.

Priority is based on status and time placed on the list. UA has never left me behind yet, but I have often cleared when standby lists were 40-70 passengers or more.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully it can help someone else out with the other flight time option not within our ability to make happen.

Since it was just DH and I for this trip, I wouldn't have minded not sitting by him for a few hour flight to get a few more hours at WDW since I have tooooo..... errrrr..... I mean GET to spend 8 days just him and I :lovestruc
