I love Frontier. As a former Colorado resident, we flew them all the time.
They have a few perks, like the seat back Direct TVs and they serve a fresh baked cookie on the flight (adopted when Midwest Airlines acquired them).
A couple points about the fare:
1) Look into getting the Classic if you can. If you do the math, the Classic (mid grade) fare provides free Direct TV ($6 otherwise) and two free checked bags ($20 and $10 respectively I think).
2) Frontier charges a change fee ($100 for economy ticket, $50 for Classic) if you make adjustments to your itinerary.
3) The first four rows have "stretch seating". This is included in the Classic Plus fare, but also can be purchased at check-in for $15 per seat. The stretch is pretty nice, as it gives quite a bit of legroom for a long flight. Also, these rows board first (if overhead stowage is important).
In general, I would compare the Classic fare to Southwest (minus the $6 for TV) to have an accurate comparison. Otherwise, the economy fare can be compared accurately to most other airline's advertised fare.
I generally get the Classic as much as possible.
If you connect, you'll probably do so through Denver. It is a nice airport, and concourse A (where Frontier lives) has a few restaurants and shops. If you have lots of time (> an hour and a half) you can take the tram to concourse B, which is the largest as far as restaurant and shop selection.
Concourse A also has a USO, if you are a military member.
