We are in need to replace our old washing machine. Can you suggest a good reasonable one for us. I do want to upgrade to a front load one. There are so many options out there. Plus I am not sure if we should replace our dryer too. It is still working, what would you do.

Thanks:)

We just (two months ago) bought a new front loader. We kept looking, and asking around for advice and got a Samsung and love it. We already had a front loader for years (Kenmore) one of the first types available for home use and really loved it. This one is larger capacity and has more features. I really like that they use less water, detergent and spin the clothes so dry that energy used for drying is much less than my top loaders that didn't spin as dry. I also feel that they are much easier on clothes and get them cleaner. We also bought a Samsung refrigerator 6 months ago (again after asking several for their thoughts on the best) and love it as well. Good luck :goodvibes

I do not like my frigidaire front loader---wouldn't recommend it! I am actually waiting till it messes up again(won't be long:laughing:) and am going to get a front loader

When my old Kenmore HE toploader needed replacement this year, I purchased a Kenmore frontloader pair. We didn't need a new dryer, but since I was getting a front-loading pedestal washer, I wanted the dryer to match. Plus I bought red ones. The washer spins out so much water that drying time is much less than with the old dryer. The washer takes about the same amount of time to process a load as our old one did.

It's important to read the instructions, to let the tub dry out between loads, and to use the correct amount of HE detergent, which is much less than you would think. We're using less detergent than we did with the old HE washer.

I'm keeping a close watch on this thread, since we will be replacing our washer as soon as we can save up the money. On second thought, this could take a while.;)

We have Maytag 3000 series Front Load HE washer & matching dryer.

Good...
Uses less water.
Shorter (<50 minutes compared to 75+ minutes previously) drying time.
Larger size fits more clothes = less loads of laundry to do.

Bad...
The washer does occasionally "rock and roll". Sometimes it's enough to shake off what we have stored on top of it. This happens maybe once every other month.
I haven't figured out how to not drop SOMETHING while transferring clothes from the washer to the dryer.

Now, we did not get all the "bells and whistles" (steam, etc). We just wash. About the most we do is change the temperature.

We did get an EXTREMELY good deal... ~$900/set when they were retailing for $800 each. I don't remember the exact details but it had something to do with a sale @ Sears and Lowe's price matching +10%, then I had a coupon, and there were rebates.

We have a Samsung front load washer and dryer. I love them!! We originally started out with a top load HE by Whirlpool and had nothing but problems with it and exchanged it for the Samsung. My mother also has the Samsung front load set and she loves hers too!

Thanks everyone. I don't see any ads with any great sales or coupons. Seems like both are 800 some each. Is there a store that offers better deals than others? Samsung seems to get the best reviews online. I'm not sure if one Samsung model is better than another.

I'm not sure either, but we did get the one that has steam, night wash (you can actually wash a few pieces at night and they will also dry overnight - don't ask me how this works, but it does :confused3 ) Some people complain of smells, mildew, etc. but I have never had a problem. I always leave my door open some to let it air out, but have always done that anyway. They have cleaners, but I have never needed to use one. If I ever needed anything, would just run an empty wash with some vinegar or bleach, but doubt I'll ever do that because have never had an issue. We got the nicer model around black Friday at Lowes because we got an excellent deal on it. Love the large capacity - can easily wash comforters, sleeping bags, etc. I have a friend that got an LG and she has had nothing but trouble - water not emptying out completely, sour smells, etc. Just love my FL Samsung could do a commercial for them LOL

That is the worst part of a front loader. I do most of the laundry and hate the long sleeve shirts my kids and wife wears (I don't wear anything long sleeve.) The skinny sleeves get everything tangled up and it is near impossible not to pull 75% of the load out at once just grabbing a small handful at a time. I leave the empty basket in front of the opening and just pull it all out into the basket instead of trying to pull out and toss immediately into the dryer.

Our first front loader we also bought a dryer because of the increased capacity. The old dryer wouldn't handle the capacity. The 2nd front loader when the first broke we didn't need to increase the size of the dryer, but of course, when one breaks beyond repair, the other is soon to follow with today's throwaway products.

Sad that we are on our 2nd set since moving into the house 12 years ago. The washer I replaced in 2000 when buying the house was original to the house being built in 1968. Still worked fine, just used 8 million gallons of water from our well. Now a washer lasts about 10 years.

With the first front loaders, the brace attached to the drum between the drum and the housing that contains all the water was aluminum. They corrode with the soaps used in washing and eventually snap. Ours blew a big hole in the plastic drum that holds the water. $450 for parts only to replace, so they are not friendly to fix and continue use when you can get a new washer for $50-100 more.

I don't know what kind of washer you have, but I'm on my second FL and have never had the problems of things tangling - in fact I have had the opposite problem - because of the agitators that were in my top loader I did have tangling issues (which even those should not be an issue now with very small blades at bottom). I had a Kenmore FL going strong after 11 yrs. but wanted a newer style and larger capacity so now happily own a Samsung. Little water, little detergent, excellent cleaning, no tangling, and best of all they spin so dry that energy use is cut because of quick drying. As for dropping clothes transferring them to the dryer, I've never had an issue with that, of course I never try to grab the whole load at one time - it's not that hard for me to make a few grabs to throw the load in the dryer - they're right next to each other. Sorry you are not happy, but there are several of us around here that are "happy as clams" with our FL's. :goodvibes Also sam_gordon, maybe the reason yours vibrates so much - not leveled right, floor not entirely braced for washers - not sure. Just know that mine has very little vibrations even when spinning high, and is very quiet compared to our last older (one of the first made for homes - Kenmore) model that may have not been insulated as well as my Samsung.

Thanks for the tip, I should double check the level. For 95% of the washes, it's as quiet as can be. The other 5% are the "shake, rattle, and roll". :rotfl:

::yes:: Another person her endorsing the Samsung. I used to have a Maytag. For 2 years I had nothing but problems. Sevice came 8x and still could not repair and Maytag kept refusing to take it back. After much of a fight, they finally acknowledged it was defective and that they have had issues with their product. Got full credit, did extensive research, came up with Samsung, and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! Some my complain about smell; no problems-just keep the door open (I put a small cloth in between the door near the hinge so it stays open enough for air to ciruculate). Twisted clothes;I had a problem in the beginning but realized that I had to adjust the spin cycle. This machine is very strong and you do not need to have the spin on high or extra high. I experimented and found most times (except for my towels and whites, that low or medium worked perfectly!) Eventually we even purchased a Samsung fridge, it too got great reviews and we love it!

We ended up getting a Samsung washer. We didn't get the dryer. If my wash loads are to big, I will split the dry loads. Our dryer is working well now, so we hope to wait a year. Thanks for the advice everyone!

:thumbsup2 You're quite welcome, sure hope you love yours as much as I do :goodvibes We didn't get a new dryer either, so I usually don't fill my washer as full as I could, but like that option for larger items anyway ;)
