Is it possible to ride in the front of the monorail with a wheelchair? She can transfer, and the wheelchair can fold.

pampam, I want to know the answer to this question too, as my 7 yr old DS loves trains and is wheelchair-bound.

Perhaps this would be best posted on the DISabilities board, where there are lots of other wheelchair and ECV users :moped: with personal experience on this issue (I am thinking particularly of SueMinMN, our beloved moderatrix, and perhaps talking hands or safari steve).

YES!

When I was a monorail pilot, I had many guests who would roll the wheelchair right up to the door, and then transfer into the cab. It's a GREAT experience. In order to do it, you must ask a monorail host/hostess. If someone is already waiting, ask to wait for the next available train. It's only a few extra minutes, and will be the shortest line you will wait in all day. Totally worth it.

A few things to note:

The wheelchair will not fit in the front cab. If it can fold, you can place it in the car directly behind the front cab. If it will not fold, it can be placed in the regularly accessible cars midway down the train. If you are comfortable, no one needs to ride with the wheelchair.

Some general rules for riding in the front cab:

Only FOUR guests may ride in the front. Four bodies, big or small, young or old, four social security numbers, four tax deductions, however you want to count it, it can only total 4 people. This is one of the biggest topics of debate with pilots and guests. They will not allow any more than four. Once they've popped out of the womb, they count. If you have more than four in your party, then someone will have to ride in the regular car.

You cannot switch out... meaning, once you are in the back, you may not transfer to the front of the cab, regardless of if there is space, or if other members of your family are up there.

Express and Epcot trips are one way only.

Resort trips may be limited, depending on 'ownership' of the train. Each color train belongs to a resort. When the train stops at its home resort, the current guests must move to the back of the train, because the guests on that platform have priority to the front cab. If another resorts train pulls in with space, guests may fill that empty space, as long as they understand when the train gets to its home resort, they may have to step to the back to finish thier journey.

No one may ride in the back cab. Ever.

You laugh, but I can't tell you how many times I had to argue with guests about the policies. The front cab is a hot topic, and there have been many serious situations because of it. This is why pilots will stick to the letter of the law when it comes to the cab.
