Frommer's Comes Out as Not in Favor of Paperless Fastpass

Patience, young grasshopper. They are on the way. Slowwwwwly...
:rolleyes1

What do you have against grasshoppers? No need to insult the little critters- unless it's this guy.

In which case, he's certainly not young-more like old n' tired. :thumbsup2

I was referring to Mom2rtk. I was not saying she looked like that. Are you saying she looks like that? And that she's old and tired?!

You know there is an alternative to rationing via FP+ the rides that are there. They could .......... you know........ add more attractions with the added revenue all those new bodies will bring in. :rolleyes1

Nope. Not gonna happen. They are Takers...not Givers. :upsidedow

Seriously? Adding new attractions with any semblance of speed belongs right there with resort specific mugs and dependable monorails. ;)

I am looking for advice after reading this thread. We have gone many times and are one of those families who could "pound a park" get all the rides and attractions in at MK even on the busy days. Now with the changes, I realize this might not be possible and I am ok with that prospect. For those of you whom have used fp+ is it worth the extra money for a park hopper? How would you most effectively use this perk? DS will turn 17 on this trip and I do not forsee us heading down as a family again. DD and I yes, but as a family this looks to be it. Any advice will be taken.http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/idea.gif

Well, Fast Pass + 7 day no hopper = 21 fast passes = $329.00= $15.66 per fast pass.

Thanks Disney for putting a price on my Fast pass +, I didn't know what my old non limited fast passes or park hopping was worth

On site since Spring 1972 , no rookie

Sorry, but Disney is not putting a price on your Fast Passes. According to your "math" everything else in the park is free... the rides you don't use FP for, the character greets, the parades, the shows, and the fireworks are all free.

Now, if you were only doing the 3 things your FP's are for and allowed to do anything else, then maybe your calculations would work.

I am in no way saying that FP+ is perfect, it needs some tweaking from what I have read, but it's still free (or part of the ticket price if you want to look at it that way). Go to any other amusement/theme park and when you buy your ticket, tell the cashier you want 3 free front of the line passes included with your ticket... see how far that gets you...

I'm waiting for Mom2rtk to post with baited breath... You don't think she's looking for a gun, do you?!

MOM2RTK! WE WERE JUST KIDDING!

:duck:

What are you guys prattling on about? I saw the word "young" and took the whole thing as a compliment....... :)

I am hoping they go past the 3 per day. Booked my trip in Aug this past week and started to explain to the fam what the new life with FP+ is and no one cheered yay we only get 3 and can't park hop. Hope those tweaks come sooner then later

Agreed, and my thought is they should give the 3 FP's allowed to be chosen 60 days in advance and then when you get in the park, you should be able to choose others like the original paper Fast Pass system providing you don't already have a Fast Pass for that ride. The computer knows which park you are in when you scan your Mickey Head.

Instead of paper FP machines, they can just have a free standing mickey head that you scan and it adds the FP to your account. It would be up to you to keep track of the times tho... either via the phone app or a kiosk.

Hate the paperless fastpass systems. They REALLY screw us locals who go to the park. Glad to see a large corporation take a stand for not completely getting rid of paper fastpasses.

Back to the topic at hand: The technology and the paperless idea are both great. I remain hopeful that there will be more flexibility with more FP+'s in the future when things settle out a little.

I'm actually excited about the change, as it suits our travel style a little better. I used to have a commando touring style, but my hubby wasn't a big Disney fan, so for our first trip, I planned it to suit his interests more. We dined almost exclusively in restaurants and took long afternoon breaks. He doesn't like getting up early, but he understands that's when lines are the lowest, so we get there at rope drop to minimize wait times. Usually we do rope drop, stay until an early lunch, take a long break, and return for dinner and a few rides and/or fireworks. We didn't park hop, though always bought a hopper to keep the option open. Since the change in with fast passes (having to show up within the window), our use went down pretty drastically.

Now, I think we'll get to a park at rope drop and tour the way we used to. After our afternoon break, we'll go to a different park and make use of our fast passes. Or we'll use one fast pass before leaving the park for our break and then return to the park for our last 2. I think we'll get just as much done, if not more, than we used to. We like a slow, relaxing touring style and I'm actually glad I've dropped my commando ways. I enjoy myself more now.

Yeah-- I remember the commando days-- we used to come home from vacation and need a vacation-- not any more. The relaxed pace is great, and the FPP system works it perfectly. I also agree that in the future, when all the bugs are worked out, it will be more flexible.

It doesn't have to be that way.

If Disney wants to keep strong attendance from off-site guests in addition on-site guests, Disney needs to tweak FastPass+ to make it just as egalitarian as the old FASTPASS system.

you hit the nail squarely on the head. But I doubt Disney will do that unless the story is picked up in the media....

This! I don't know why some people are so insistent that you are not entitled to an opinion of FP+ unless you have tested it! We did test in Sept, but I wouldn't have needed to to understand that it will, without a doubt, negatively impact our touring strategy. The excessive preplanning (and I actually like to plan!), the rigidity of being stuck or "locked in" to 3 tiered FP+ ahead of time, and the loss of all the additional FP- we used to pull (easily between 7-10 at MK) is clearly a detriment/loss in value to OUR vacationing style. There is no need (although I did) to try the system before figuring that out. Why is that so hard for people to comprehend?

I think the issue is they don't like your opinion and lack any real counterpoint so they resort to claiming you opinion is not valid. It is a weak argument used by stubborn closed minded people.

And if we carried the viewpoint of experience is required to have an opinion or understanding, how would anything new ever be done or tried, we would have a world where only people who have eaten food are allowed to comment on it, or only people who have been in government are allowed to talk about it....

That is hardly the same. The guy who wrote the article came out against paperless fastpass without even trying it. What it seems like you're trying to say is if nobody tried anything new, nothing new would get done. Guess what? The author DIDN'T try the new system, if Disney DIDN'T try something new, nothing new would get done.

Would you trust a movie critic who said he didn't watch the movie? Or a food critic who said he didn't taste the food at a particular restaurant?

we would have a world where only people who have eaten food are allowed to comment on it

That's such a strange comment... would you really take anyone's word for it if they came out against food, and, oh, by the way, they never tried food?
