Frommer's Comes Out as Not in Favor of Paperless Fastpass

MK may be an exception due to all the attractions, but I bet you didn't get peter pan, splash, big thunder, or space... well, maybe-- with the old system they didn't have as many. Gee, were there more than 6 with FP- back in June? The four I listed, mermaid ride, jungle cruise, ... man you can really pound a park.

Got both Space and BTMRR.

Barnstormer, Dumbo, Mickey and Princess meet & greet.

And yes, MK is about the only place you could do that. Although I'm guessing maybe AK would have something left later in the day, but probably not a park to hop TO because it closes earlier. We don't hop, but I'm guessing most who did knew MK was the park to hop TO.

If you read the post at Frommer's, it's clear the author (Jason Cochran) is not reviewing the technology or how the system works. He's talking about how this new way of doing Fastpass will affect PLANNING a trip. So seems find to me that he didn't use the bands yet since he's not talking really about how it works inside the park but how it affects you before you get there.
::yes::

This! I don't know why some people are so insistent that you are not entitled to an opinion of FP+ unless you have tested it! We did test in Sept, but I wouldn't have needed to to understand that it will, without a doubt, negatively impact our touring strategy. The excessive preplanning (and I actually like to plan!), the rigidity of being stuck or "locked in" to 3 tiered FP+ ahead of time, and the loss of all the additional FP- we used to pull (easily between 7-10 at MK) is clearly a detriment/loss in value to OUR vacationing style. There is no need (although I did) to try the system before figuring that out. Why is that so hard for people to comprehend?

:thumbsup2

FP+ actually can make it a better deal to park hop knowing you have those couple of special rides locked in that you could never get a FP for by the time you got to that second park.
:thumbsup2

This thread is going down hill just like the one million FP+ threads on the Theme parks and strategies board. I guess after dragging every one of those threads down hill they have to spread it around, but no one here is impressed with what they have to say over and over. :thumbsup2

~YES!!! Fabulous post!!! This is why I love the Rumors board so much! :cool1:

And I'm not impressed with the people who insist over and over and over that FP+ is amazingly, perfectly awesome and that everyone should just shut up and consider themselves blessed just to be able to step into the parks and soak up the atmosphere.

Yet I do realize that those people are entitled to their opinion no matter where they want to post it or how often they want to say it. *Shrug.*

Well, Fast Pass + 7 day no hopper = 21 fast passes = $329.00= $15.66 per fast pass.

Thanks Disney for putting a price on my Fast pass +, I didn't know what my old non limited fast passes or park hopping was worth

On site since Spring 1972 , no rookie

~Disney has consistently increased ticket prices every year with literally no improvement in the parks for several years now. The monorail was taken off line and guests were forced to use buses and boats. Meanwhile, they throw up DVC by the minute at the monorail resorts. And, no one made a peep, well a few of us did.

~It looks like as long as people were able to get fastpasses to use anytime they want, it was okay to overlook the glaring neglect in the parks for years and increase of ticket prices. Now, Disney has taken that away, too. At least, these changes work out extremely well for us! :cool1:

Those in favor are being just as negative in their way. Those opposed would have no one to argue with if the fans didn't so eagerly attack.

I won't comment on who starts it because that seems to vary.

I could not disagree with you more. The tiny few who are opposed are quite aggressive, hostile, and behave irrational-well outside what is considered civil message board decorum-hence the one million down hill threads on the Theme parks and strategies board. :thumbsup2

Sorry, but I must disagree. What on earth is your basis for this?

We were there January 8-16 onsite. Got all into MDE and pre-planning our FPs, getting it all on the MB etc.

The short version is that in our first hotel, the MB wouldn't allow me to open our door. It did allow my brother in law who was one of my MDE "friends" to open our room door. My FP and ticketing were OK. Fixing the door issue took about 30 minutes at the concierge desk including a call to Disneys IT dept.

Changed hotels midway to a DVC stay at OKW using our points. Me, husband, brother in law, sister in law and friend. All on MDE except sister in law.

Short version- upon check in brother in law was told he wasn't listed in the room do no MB for him. Husband and I who are the DVC owners went to front desk. 45-60 minutes later reservation was redone. MBs opened door, allowed us park entry, showed FPs that had been pre-done in MDE except for brother in law whose band had no FPs on it. Thankfully CMs let us all in on our FPs by showing them the thing on MDE.

Back to front desk where reservation was redone (#2)...another 45-60 minutes because it's being redone for 5 people. Go to room, door unlocks. Go to park. Admission and FPs OK. Sister in law, during some park downtime, decides to load MDE app on her phone and join up with all of us in our party on it. Get back to room. Now we can't unlock doors which we could unlock before.

Back to Front desk where they redo the entire reservation again (#3). Another 45-60 minutes. We are then told to not have any else join our group in MDE because my sister in law joining midway through the trip seems to be what screwed it up the 3rd time. OK fine, but isn't the point if MDE so that a group can all have access to the same info about dining, FPs etc.?

Through this the OKW staff was great in trying to fix it, apologetic, gave us a dining credit for our troubles.

I see the whole MDE/FP+/MB thing as being interrelated. I did not have a good experience with it. We are Disney people. We go usually at Least 2x/year. I work in IT so I understand Go Live and what it means. I'm hoping eventually the process will enhance peoples' stay. It did not do that for us this time. IF they don't get the bugs worked out fairly quickly there will be people who will make different decisions about how they vacation at WDW. Disney has set the bar pretty high for themselves in terms of promising perfection, the "experience" etc. so my feeling us they don't have too much time to get it right before it begins to impact them. People have high expectations of Disney...expectations that Disney created themselves.

I agree Disney has created high expectations. But it's not a high expectation to have your door open. Every time. They have a ways to go on this.

So sorry you had these issues to contend with on a vacation.

The bottom line is this. FP+ is here to stay in some form or other.

Figure out a way to make it work for you.

Or be miserable. I guess you can be miserable if you want to.

You hit the nail on the head in my opinion. It seems Disney is trying to limit your ride experince. It almost goes back to the E-ticket days in the 70s where you could only get oni a certain number of rides. We too would easily get 7 fast passes per day at parks. Standing in line for BTM for 40 min is ridiculous when you are used to 10 min with fast pass. Yes, this will greatly affect my trip and will probably favor Disneyland again.

Sort of. Except that now they have added the "feature" of doing that while maintaining all-access pricing.

Disney has always limited our experience! They make you buy a ticket, they make you stand in lines, they make you do all kinds of things in order to accommodate others!

Over 17 million visit MK and many millions at all the other parks. Disney HAS to limit your ride experience. They are going to break 20,000,000 at MK sooner than you think. FP+ is going to be a key to help everyone get the rides they want. But with 20 mil you can't let people have 10 FP's, not and keep everyone else happy, too.

The 70's are never coming back. They weren't as great as people remember anyway. But whether or not you think they were fantastic, they are not coming back.

Improvise, adapt, overcome. Make the best of it.

Or rail against Disney where it does absolutely no good whatsoever and be unhappy. I've known some people who could not be happy unless they were unhappy. And I've known people that could not be happy unless they were looking down at someone.

Why can't we together try to figure out how to best work this new system to our mutual advantage rather than diatribes, whines, insults, railing against Disney and other people here, and achieving nothing but making more people unhappy? :grouphug:

You have the right to be upset and unhappy with changes that don't work for you, but why make such an effort to make others unhappy and demean those that are happy? I sincerely hope that every Disney lover's issues are resolved at least enough that they can enjoy their time here and at Disney!

Everyone has a right to say and do what they want on this site - within reason. So I have a right to ask for some positivity, too!

Let's have fun! Let's make the best of it! :flower3:

Don't worry, be happy. Ohhhhhh Ohohohoh ohoh ohhhhh, Ohohohoh ohoh ohhhhh, Ohohohoh ohhhhhh. Don't worry, be happy. (Good thing nobody can throw tomatoes in a virtual world)
:duck:

I love Disney. I've enjoyed every single trip. I am so blessed to have a wonderful family that all enjoy going, even after grown. I can afford to visit Disney more than once. Do you know how many people there are in the world who will never visit Disney? Do you know how many people just want their next meal or their child to live? I am a happy and blessed man! I may be a bit of a "Pollyanna" but durned if I'm not a happy and fulfilled one! :)

Everybody have a great weekend! Enjoy the Super Bowl! Go Steelers! Stay warm! Kiss your significant other! Hug your kids (Or go make some!) Go to Disney! Or plan your next trip!

You know there is an alternative to rationing via FP+ the rides that are there. They could .......... you know........ add more attractions with the added revenue all those new bodies will bring in. :rolleyes1
