I've pulled up on the web our directions and I want to know if you locals (or those who visit a lot) think this is the way to go.

I've been told (by a gentlemen who just made this trip) that it will take us a minimum of 12 hours to get there. The traffic is terrible he says. At least 4 hours of no more than 20 mph. Is this true? I'm scared!

Our trip directions are as follows:

west 8 for 180 miles
805 north for 12 miles
5 north for 79 miles
take the harbor blvd exit 110 toward ball rd.
lurn teft harbor blvd
end at Disneyland

total distance 276 miles est time 4 1/2 hours

Does this sound right? 4 hours turning into 12???? UGH!

AND we are staying at the Camelot... so is the end of these directions the best way to get there and not disneyland (since we are going there first?)

THANKS.

All I can say is 12 years ago we went from DL to Yuma, It did not take 12 hours, hard to remember exactly but more like 5 or 6.....

The directions are right on the $$$$. It WILL NOT take 20hrs.Figure 'about' 5-6hrs.It depends how 'soon' you leave Yuma.My suggestion would be no later than 8:00am. Once you get on the 805,stay in the 3rd lane from the shoulder. You'll be there in no time. Enjoy the Camelot Inn, we stayed there in 05 aand thourghly enjoyed it. HAVE FUN!!!

I think map quest is right. I don't even think it will take 5 hours unless it is rush hour.

As someone who grew up in Yuma and remembers when there was no freeway between Yuma and San Diego, I can tell you it is not even 5 hours with no traffic. 3 hours to San Diego and roughly 11/2 more to Anaheim.

The trip should take about four hours-five max. One trip we made it home in about 3 1/2 hours. There was no traffic on the road. There is another route through the mountains but, I would have to ask DH about that one. It was actually sugeested by a Disneyland employee. I can't remember saving much time though.

We're in Tucson but drive that same route. It usually takes us approx. 4 hours from Yuma to get to Anaheim, depending on traffic.

We're in Tucson, as well, and it takes us about 7-8 hours to get to Anaheim from here. I can't imagine it taking more than 4-5 hours at the most to get there from Yuma.

Digging up a long lost thread. Is this route still good. We would love to travel up the PCH as we have been to California 5 times and not travelled out side of the Anaheim area. We will be driving back and forth between Yuma and Disneyland over 17 days. Not interested in fast. Scenic is better

We drive that route to Anaheim as well since we come from Tucson and it never takes us 12 hours. Maybe 7 max. BUT maybe the friend who mentioned it took 12 hours ran into a road block or something. We had some relatives come to Tucson from San Diego earlier this month and they were stuck on I-8 going eastbound for about 2 hours somewhere near Yuma...and all of the traffic was at a standstill because of road construction or something like that.

With the big rain storms that California had recently, you won't be able to go all the way up Hwy 1 from So Cal to San Francisco. The road washed away near Big Sur. The Cal Trans web site will probably have details.

That is so sad. Thanks for the heads up.

About 4.5 hours depending on traffic. Take the 8 and when you get to El Cajon, take the 67 to the 52 to the 805 to the 5 to Anaheim. Don't be on the roads in San Diego between 600 am to 900 am or 300 pm to 630 pm. And try not to make this drive on any Friday, Sunday or holiday Monday.

Once you get to El Cajon / La Mesa area on I-8 (just east of San Diego), if the traffic reports are saying bad backups on I-5 and the 805 freeways, then here's an alternate route to get to Anaheim from I-8:

Has anyone travelled from San Diego to Newport Beach via the 5 and 1. Looks like I could drive right to Harbor BLVD. That looks like a lovely drive. Time is not an issue.

We live in San Diego and often when we drive up to Dland we usually get off the 5 at Dana Point and take the 1/PCH. It does add some time (about 1 hour) to your drive but it is a WONDERFUL, mostly peaceful drive up the coast. The views along the PCH of the coast are truly spectacular and we often stop around Crystal Cove State Park just before you are getting into Newport Beach and eat outside at Rudy's Shake shack/Diner. They have fantastic burgers and shakes and their outdoor seating overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It is truly a million dollar view. Burgers fries and shakes for me and my wife run under 30 dollars. It is worth every penny.

You get to drive through Laguna beach, Newport Beach, Corona del Mar and Dana Point. All great beach towns. It really is worth it and I highly recommend you do it. When you get into Newport Beach you turn off the 1/ PCH onto the 55 and then in about a mile or so you make a left onto Harbor Blvd and take it all the way to Dland. And all along the way if you see some neat place, just park and go in. It's a great drive.

Thank you for this info. I love scenic drives. I am not in a hurry when I am on holidays.
