from your child's perspective, which resort is best?

We have preschool and elementary age children. We'd really like to choose a resort that they will love as well.

Is there a particular resort that your children are crazy about, or one that they ask to return to over the others?

It really depends on what YOU think your children would like. I'm not sure if this is a DVC question, but I know my kids really liked the carribean, Port Orleans, and coronado moderate resorts because of the pools, they loved the wilderness lodge and contemp. for the pools and game rooms, loved the Y and B for the pool, and love the BW for the rooms, pool, and community hall. I guess you can see our kids love pools and different options.
The community hall at the Boardwalk is our two youngest kids favorite thing. Some kids just like quiet pools, and are content with that. It's all what your' kids are into

For my kids it was Wilderness Lodge. They were a little older than yours, but they loved the boat ride to MK, the slide at the pool, the rambunctious Whispering Canyon restaurant and the fun character breakfast (since discontinued) at Artist Point with Pooh & friends.

I can't imagine kids not loving ANY resort at WDW. They're all great...just have to find one that works for your budget.

All in all, I think Wilderness Lodge was a good one with our daughter (starting kindergarten next month). The kids club was pretty good (let mom and dad have a nice dinner one night). She liked playing in the sand and having a nice private area on the lagoon. She also liked the pool there (though it doesn't compare to the Beach Club).

DS1 is 11, DS2 is 9.

VWL is their favorite with out a doubt, primarily because of the theme, pools, boats, woods, MK access, etc.

Next is BWV, primarily for sentimental reasons because we've stayed there several times in a row and they got used to it. Also, they just like the BW area and all it has to offer.

Haven't tried BCV, but I'm going to guess they'll like the pool, and access to Epcot, but will probably be rated their third pick.

Last place...OKW. Boring, too spreadout. Big rooms but they're not terribly interested in hanging around in the room.

We have 3 children (7,6,3). I asked my son who is 7 which DVC resort he likes best. He chose the BWV because he loves the clown slide. We have stayed at all 4 onsite resorts. All of them have something that our kids like. VWL was fun because we could go on "adventures" and explore the resort and paths. SAB at BCV was fun for them too. OKW is probably last on their list just because there isn't a fun slide.

Our first stay isn't at BCV for a while, but I can tell you that the resort mykids liek to stay at is ALWAYS the one we were last at.

My kids,( 9, 6, and 2 yrs.) love VWL. The older ones love the main pool and slide, while the 2 yr.old likes the quiet pool because of the wide stairs that he can climb up and down. The kids like the animal "footprints" they find on the sidewalks and there's always a rabbit, squirrel, or some critter in view as we walk. They also enjoy the boatride to the MK and mom does too because we don't have to fold up the stroller and carry around a toddler. I'm sure as they get older, we'll use the water mice and the plan which allows unlimited use of those and the bikes during our stay. Although we haven't taken bikes over to the campground to explore that area, I hear that's a great thing to do as well. I'll have to admit, VWL is their favorite - but it's the only DVC resort on site they've stayed at so far;)

My kids are now young adults and their favorite DVC resort is BWV and they also enjoy WLV, they have not yet stayed at BCV but I am sure they will also love this resort because they love the Epcot resort area and of course the wonderful pool there. They do not like staying at OKW at all, they find nothing to do there, the location to be very inconvenient, and just do not like it. The larger 1 BR holds absolutely no charm at all for them since they are usually out and about and not sitting in the room while at WDW.

This is a very interesting thread. :)

I agree with Doctor P--this is an interesting thread. My children are all young adults too and their favorite DVC resort, without a doubt, is Old Key West!! They've NEVER found it boring. They have always loved having the extra space to spread out, play games etc. Hank's has lots of activities for children so they keep busy. Frequently, they take a walk over to DD. The lack of a slide at the pools doesn't bother them--they just liked being in the water. When we wanted excitement we went to TL or BB. I think a lot depends on your children and how they enjoy spending their time. All of the DVC Resorts are terrific and each is special in its own way. We're fortunate to have so many wonderful choices.

My kids are 4,7 and 10 and have been to VWL and BWV. They love the pool at BWV and walking to Epcot and BWV. At VWL they really like the lobby and the atmosphere (even though the slide is LAME compared to the Luna Park slide). My DS loves to "walk over the bridge" in the VWL lobby. My girls love to walk on the boardwalk and pose in that cutout picture thing for DVC. So there are plusses to both!

My kids, who are now adults, have always loved where we stayed, and we have stayed at all the resorts, but their favorite, as younger kids, was BC because of SAB. As early teens, they loved Caribbean because everyone in our town stays there, so it was just like being at home with their friends. As they got older, they fell in love with BWV, and still prefer that as adults. OKW isn't their favorite resort, but it is one of our's, it's a lovely, relaxing place to be, which young adults are not really into at their current ages. Still, the reason we all go to Disney is because there is something there for everyone, no matter what your age happens to be.:bounce:

My DS (age 7 today!) judges all resorts by their swimming pools. Therefore, though our home resort is BWV, I think BCV would be his first choice. We have pool hopped there (before BCV opened), and DS was ecstatic. His second choice would definitely be BWV. The slide there is great for younger elementary aged kids. (The one at BCV is a little fast for the 4 - 6 year old set, IMHO.) We have stayed at WL before, and he thought the pool was beautiful, but the slide is kind of a yawn for the thrill seeking 7-year old. And, since OKW has no slide, it is definitely out of the question for young DS.

Sounds strange to evaluate a resort based upon the slides in its swimming pools, but there you have it from my boy.

As a side note, DH and I prefer BWV. BCV looks lovely, but the villas section is so far from the big pool that you kind of lose the benefit of being at Stormalong Bay. We love the ambience of BW and, of course, the location. When we've had guests, we've wished from time to time that our rooms were larger, but when it's just the three of us, a one bedroom at BWV is extremely comfortable and roomy.

Hope that helps.

My sons favorite has always been BC and now BCV. For some reason all the people from our town tend to stay there, so all his friends are there. But even at an early age he loved Epcot and all the activity between BWV and BCV. He's 14 now, but has been staying at BC since he was 9.

Thanks everyone! This is really great info. It sounds like I can't go too wrong at any DVC resort; however, I'm thinking my kids would really enjoy the exploration that goes along with VWL. Of course, my DD does loves slides, so maybe BWV of BCV. Uh-oh, I don't think I'm any closesr to a decision than I was before!!
