If you are flying SW-check your flights. My flight to MCO just went down again. :cool1:

Valbob, can you please post and let us know how many people are on the postcard list so far and when the deadline to join is going to be? I ask because I live in a seasonal beach area (Jersey Shore) and most of the boardwalk stores that sell postcards will be closing soon, so I really want to get mine but it would help if we have a total and cut off date so I can get there soon and make sure I buy enough before the shops close up for winter.

Also, does anyone know what the deadline for the FE sign up is? Someone mentioned it in a previous post and it got me thinking that I need to get going on my FE plans too but need a headcount first.

Thank you LInda, Tami/Mike, Robin for the packing advice. NOW i'm starting to panic. put to gether a little bag of things i dont want to forget but it doesnt come close. i am saving empty med bottle to put just enough plus a day meds in so i dont bring whole thing in case it gets lost.
for laundry, i've been trying those sheets that have wash and are like bounce too and have been happy with those so i'll bring those.
ok am going to bed before i panic about not losing weight and not having right clothes to go on! aaarrrggghhh!!

btw, i've heard duct tape mentioned twice. how come? or what for?

I would imagine duct tape would be very useful for keeping curtians closed, hanging things, repairing suitcases, shoes or whatever, as well as whatever you use it for at home. I'm sure there are more cruise specific things I'm missing though.

Good Morning, happy Cruisers! 37 chilly degrees here, but it looks like it will be a sunny day.

I would imagine duct tape would be very useful for keeping curtians closed, hanging things, repairing suitcases, shoes or whatever, as well as whatever you use it for at home. I'm sure there are more cruise specific things I'm missing though.

All those things plus keeping closet doors from banging if the ship is rocking, and mending a hem.

I'll check out the barking dog for shoes. I've been wearing SAS for years, vry comfortable and they're pricy, but I want CUTE. I had some from Torrid with a ruffle around the top but when I got so heavy they no longer fit, so I gave them away. Big mistake, I'm thinking now, -58#s later, they might have fit again if only I had been patient.

FE - My opinion only! I don't think there is a cut off - but what I would do is this - on the day you decide to acquire your gifts, buy the number who have signed up plus say 10% - so if there are 70 signed up that would be 77. If you have extras on the actual delivery day, you can leave more than one in your favorite folks fe, give the extras to random kids, or your stateroom host.

If you don't end up with quite enough, oh well. With that number of people stuffing FE's, one item less in a couple is NOT going to make or break anyone's cruise.

Gail, some of the Birkenstocks are wide fitting. I had 3 perfect pairs for me from QVC(UK), and sent for another pair last year and they were far too wide. Unfortunately I'm not sure if they tell you, so unless you can go somewhere to try loads on it could be difficult finding them.

UM, I would be a QVCer too (about the only place I shop) and that is where all of mine come from. I have gotten pretty good at judging which will work and which will not. But, I did start with a pair of Arizona's and got hooked (their traditional 2 strap shoe). My winter clogs are Birks too but I got them in a regular brick and mortar store as I felt I needed to try them on. There are no stores very close to me that carry Birks so I am left to online shopping. Those Disney ones are too cute but I just don't think they would fit. Guess I will go check it out again - I feel the need coming on:laughing: for a new pair.

I did not do well with those Purex sheets on my trip last year but I am thinking maybe I will get the Tide tablet boosters and that should do the trick. My machine at home is HE so I can do a practice run to be sure I am not making fodder for anyone's laughing as the machine overflows with suds or anything :lmao:. Plus, I want to make sure my stuff gets clean. I can not imagine - would have been a sight, still makes me laugh.

Don't panic about packing - your season is changing and won't there be items that you can begin to pack? I have a HUGE suitcase that I can no longer travel with because of it's size so I put all my off season stuff in there. Works like a charm except when I did this a few weeks ago, I did take one of the suitcases that will be going on this trip and started putting things in it. Be mindful and keep a list. It will get unpacked and repacked but I know exactly what is in there and won't go off on a tanget looking for anything.

In all of our cruises - I have never taken duct tape but, having said that, I will this time. Also - add to your list a mini first aid kit (and sorry if I missed it). Mine is generally alcohol wipes, Neosporine and bandaids but I have something if needed. DH's goggles are also always on the packing list as the are the RX kind. I have been purchasing Bonine when I go to the grocery so I should soon have enough of that. I take it on departure day generally and for any of our excursions that involve boats, just in case. DH just takes it daily as he does have motion issues. I also pack scissors as I do not do magnets for my door but I do decorate my door so I need that to cut the magnetic tape or sheets that I purchase. You will also need those to cut your FE down if you use the ties to make sure it doesn't wander off although toenail clippers would work too.

Whooping 41 degrees here at this point - headed to 56. Our leaves are about all down which makes me sad as that means the dang snow is next. While I am ready for this trip, snow - not so much.

The 3 strap Birkenstocks are my favourite, and, I do believe the style is called Florida!!! Well I just had to get those didn't I?;)

Well part 2 of 4 done. I am so happy we are doing B2B. 3 nights is way to short. So we are just sitting in the terminal waiting for them to tell us we can reboard. That should happen in about 15 min. I can tell you all for sure that Clayton, AKA Hollywood, will be going on the PC cruise. This is from his own mouth.

So glad you are having a great time - it won't be much longer and you will be back onboard. Take good care of her.

You sure did! I don't have any with the 3 straps, I am not so sure I could stand how far they come up on my foot.

I also checked out the website Jen suggested and ended up at www.6pm.com - pretty interesting and excellent sale prices. Thanks for sharing Jen.

This ship looks great. They just let us back on about 15 min ago. We are hanging in the new Outlook Cafe. I really like it.

Funny you should mention 6pm...I was going to say something last night but I was too tired to type! But, for all of those with wide feet, it may be worth signing up to their website. They have different specials everyday and most are shoe brands. I have never seen a larger selection of cute wide shoes at such good prices! You do have to be patient though if you want the really good prices because although you can buy stuff any time, only certain things are on sale each day. The nice thing is that you get an email everyday that will tell you what is on sale. I purchased my strappy black CK sandals, a pair of silver and a pair of black kitten heel sandals for DD for this cruise last week and the total with shipping was $50! Oh, and we don't have wide feet so it is a good site for everyone...even men!

.

Here is a copy of my working Postcard Exchange list. I hadn't thought about when to close. Sort of thought I could leave it until almost the last so that people who come onboard at the end will find something they can participate it. However, if the group wants to close it at a set time we can do that.

Kay - thanks for the box shipping info!

Going shopping today to look for summer close on clearance - would like a couple of pairs of shorts. Old Navy was a wash yesterday. So if you smell a slight burning plastic smell later today - it's only me and my warm credit card;)

going to go see if my flight to MCO is cheaper!

The following is some of the things I have spent time researching and learnt about traveling with a loved one who has had major medical problems. We believe that with appropriate caution and prep we can continue to enjoy life. I apologize to those who don't need or want to read this and suggest you skip this posting.

We have never lost our meds, although once Bob did forget one of his heart meds and we had to run around Orlando at 10:00 at night trying to get some before our cruise the next day. Thank God the pharmacy was still open in San Francisco and we have a good relationship with them. They were able to transfer his prescription to the Florida pharmacy that filled it for us. We have never been questioned about his loads of drugs or his CPAP either. However, we have never had our luggage searched; guess we look like boring old farts.

That said, our doctors and the travel doctor I have consulted with told us to bring copies of the meds in original bottles. Also to bring a letter from the Drs listing the meds and what he is being treated for, including the need for a CPAP. We get a current EKG to bring. I have all their phone numbers, including the pharmacy, with me. I let them know where and when we are going and they seem to look forward to the postcards I send them thanking for their help getting us there.

I don't buy the Disney travel insurance because it excludes pre-existing conditions. I have filed three claims with Travel Guard. Two for 100% refund of our cruise, air travel and excursions due to hospitalization. The third was for a visit to a clinic while in the middle of Denali park. They have always been wonderful and paid promptly. When I called from Denali, late at night, they offered to start the process to have him helicoptered out if necessary (it wasn't). They were so kind and a friendly voice while sitting in the waiting room.
My TA gets us the necessary riders to the policy to cover what we need. I check the docs carefully to make sure all the dates and other info is correct. I start the policy at the amount needed to cover the cruise and then I keep track of all my non-refundable expenditures and update the amount of the policy coverage as I need to (check you can do this with your policy). Find out what the ranges are for the coverage costs. List the amount at the top of the range you are paying for. So if you are paying for $2,000 - $2,900, list your coverage needed at $2,900. You’re not going to try and claim more then what is needed to make you whole, it just helps make sure you have enough.

Our health insurance doesn't cover us out of the US, unless it is a life threatening condition. I spoke to a the claim adjusters at UHC who advised me to get another letter from my dr. stating that due to pre-existing conditions, what would not be considered life threatening for most could be for him. The letter stated that due to a previous infection of the heart he needs to be seen for even routine problems, as life threatening. He said this would assist in future claims.

I also carry AAA Plus membership, a level of road service that is one above the normal and costs about $50 more a year. This pays for medical transportation back to SF from anywhere in the world. Bringing someone back to the US can cost over $50,000. It has other benefits worth looking into.

Hope this helps some of you.
Val

Thanks Val - I did not realize the benefits of the upgraded AAA membership, guess I best check this out before I renew in December.
