From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 4

I've started copying important info like this into an email and sending it to myself and filing it in a PC Cruise folder in my email. It doesnt copy who wrote it though. nor if there are responses. but you can keep cutting and pasting. so here it is. though the one that almost didnt get there now makes me nervous! since dd is a cm i'll probably send stuff to her instead. i wasnt going to bother her.... anyway here you go:

Shipping a box - I often ship a box, there are instructions in the FAQ on the main cruise thread but here it is as an FYI. It has always worked well for me.
Boxes Sent the Ship Ahead of Cruise - PLEASE follow these instructions carefully!!!!!! UPDATED AS OF 2/25/2009
• ONE box per stateroom, no exceptions.
• The package must have the guest full name, ship, sailing date, stateroom number or GTY if you have not been assigned a stateroom number.
• The package also must have a packing slip attached to the outside of the box that details the contents of the package. For prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient. Your list may or may not be read but it must have one. Write packing slip on the outside of the envelope.
• NO FOODS/DRINKS OF ANY KIND, LIQUOR OF ANY KIND, FIREARMS, ETC.. Items that cannot be shipped to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse and delivered to the ship include: food products (any and all food products including baby food/formula), beverages (liquor, water, etc.), chemicals, and luggage. These items will not be accepted at the warehouse and will be returned. This may cause the dogs to hit on your box and that would be a bad thing.
• The required size of the cartons you are shipping down have to be about the size of a record storage box 12 inches on a side and should not weigh more than 20 lbs. (This has been asked personally by Dave Adams who is the owner)

Address your package(s) to:
Disney Cruise Line Warehouse
Guest Name / Stateroom # (GTY, if you don't know what it is when you send the package)
8633 Transport Drive
Orlando, FL 32832
Phone: 407-566-8196

In the bottom left corner of the top of the package put the following information: ATTN: HOUSEKEEPING
*Name
*Sail Date
*Ship
*Stateroom Number
*Packing slip that details contents of the package (for prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient)
• Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00pm for the 7-Night Cruise on the Disney Magic (Saturday).
• Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00pm for the 4-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Sunday).
• Packages must arrive by Wednesday by 3:00pm for the 3-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Thursday).

If your box is hit on by the screening dog or chosen for additional screening they will open the list and the box and look through it. They will close it back up and provided nothing bad is in it then it will be in your room as usual later after boarding. These boxes will be coming on the ship with the crew mail among other things so they may be in the staterooms later then they were before as they are low priority in the scheme of things for Disney.

hope this helps!

Just about to leave for the birthday party but wanted to remind everyone - 5 days left to order your lanyards!

We are a 142 lanyards!

If you want to join in - just send me a PM with the number you want - they are $1.50 each. Once they get here...I can advise you the cost for shipping if you choose to do so...

Thanks!

Has anyone else been having trouble accessing private messages or your subscription list today? I can get on these boards fine, but when I click private messages or UserCP I get an error message saying the boards will be down for 2 hours for an update. It's been WAY more than 2 hours.

I have just got the same message.

Maybe whatever they are doing is just taking longer than they thought.

Regarding doing laundry while on board. For those who have not been on a longer cruise - be prepared. The laundry rooms are ALWAYS busy. I am not exaggerating. I got up one sea morning at 3:45 (yes there is a 3:45 a.m. on the clock) and still had to wait 30 minutes to get a washer. I have found it a highlight of my cruises to observe the people who have never done laundry before (not all of them are men). I never believed the sitcoms that show how --um-- challenged??? people can be by laundry until now. That 4:00 a.m., one problem was a machine that had finished the entire cycles and still had a tub full of suds, which spilled all over the floor. The very nice lady had washed only a tee-shirt, in the HE machine but used an entire box of regular (not HE) soap. Then their was the man who admitted he didn't know how to wash and when I told him not to wash his wives' white bras with his jeans and red shirt took the advise of the other young lady who told him in these machines it would be ok and she knew because she was a platnum DCL passenger (did she think there was pixie dust in these machines maybe?). But the best was the lady who informed me in a very up-crust voice that she had NEVER done laundry in her life - her maid did it. I suggested she could have her laundry sent out - no response. When she put her undies, jeans and tennis shoes in the same dryer, on high and I suggested she use medium and again in her special tone of voice she informed me her jeans would neeeever dry on medium. Am I a b---h for enjoying the show they provide? val

Nope, I did the same thing in college. It was awesome watching all these kids who's moms had always done their laundry all of a sudden have to do it. I found a lot to laugh at those 4 years....

I love it! Almost makes me want to do laundry on-board just to see the show.

But no... this is vacation... and one of the small luxuries I budget for (along with chocolate smoothies) is laundry service. I love being able to just toss stuff in a bag, and the next day they show up perfectly clean and pressed. Yes it costs more, but through the entire cruise I probably won't spend more than on one of the full-day excursions - and will probably get as much satisfacation from it. :rolleyes1

Shushh, Emum, and Sako526. I have added your names to the list of people willing to offer their rooms for the room tour. Thank you. We won't finalize the list until after the GTY assignment and upgrades come in but want to continue to gather the info on those willing souls. As of now we have 10 different room types scheduled so I am sure we can make it happen. Thanks again.

Pixzpwr - I have added you to the postcard exchange list.

OMG - popcorn:: although I will say I have never had the pleasure and I spend a lot of time in there as I use their iron. But, it is generally pretty crowded and the further into a cruise it gets, the busier it gets so I will try and do what I need to do early on.

If you are, which I SERIOUSLY doubt, what does that make me as now you have convinced me that I MUST do laundry if only for the fabulous entertainment it will provide =0)
Lynne, I don't know if you're checking in or not, but my DD and I are at the local animal shelters "Oktoberfest" and there are these two Beagles (boy and girl) who are absolutely adorable! The little boy follows the little girl around and lays his head across her back whether she is standing or laying down...my point...I fell in love! I can see why you like Beagles now.
Unfortunately, my dog Nellie is too nerotic to trust with other dogs so all I can do is hope that someone will adopt them together. Does anyone in So Cal want two beagles? They are $25 today and I'll pick them up for you =0)

can you copy the packing list on to a post or somehow get it out there for us bad packers? (well not bad, confused/worried)

There are a couple of packing lists. One is on the Disney Cruise website. Click 'planning library'. Then under tools, you will find a link for 'packing list'. Another place I used was the DIS Board DCL FAQ - they also have a packing list link. Thirdly, I read a BUNCH of cruise tips to pick out the items I thought I should take: over the door shoe organizer, hair dryer, duck tape, pins, clothes pins, sewing kit, power strip, spray on sunscreen (for head), dayquil, nyquil, benedryl, lysol spray, downey wrinkle release, febreeze, air freshener, Shout wipes, windex wipes for verandah door, small flashlight, digital clock, beach bag, asst. zip loc bags, insect repellant, aloe, EXTRA sunscreen, water bottles, zip ties for securing your FE and luggage, Sunguard from RIT dye (adds sunscreen to your clothes), large trash bags for dirty laundry, small binoculars, small memo pad to write notes for room steward, portable suction hooks, papaya enzyme, bonine, tylenol, bengay, water booties, photo mat or pillow case for autographs and sharpies in asst colors, sample size toiletries, disposable razors, extra sunglasses, heavy duty folder for papers you want to save, plenty of $1 bills for rm svc tips and excursion tips, prewritten labels for luggage/postcards etc, bubble wrap,.

Some tips I enjoyed: Dont show up for disembark talk - it's shown repeatedly on your TV, order room service, dont over pack, if undecided about buying a souvenier--buy it or you will be sorry later, take a picture of everything or you will be sorry you didnt, make a scrapbook, nice black slacks - you can change out different shirts, get a wake up call from Mickey, order the All Hands on Deck plate from rm svc, take extra fruit from buffet for later in your rm, anchors on carpet - red faces aft/blue faces front, store luggage and life vests under bed, coffee table raises up to table height, dont leave Disney Dreams early, dont disembark early stay on as long as possible, deck 4 has comfy deck chairs, send dressy clothes out the 1st night on board for pressing, boxed wine avoids breakage.

Just a few tips I thought I could use. Got them from trip reports Best Cruise Tips, etc. Hope it helps

Thanks for the reminder to take binoculars!

The only thing I'd add to that med list is "imodium". I used to get the little give away packs of the various items from our clinic at work - it's not like one is likely to need a large quantity of any of it.

Well someone must be able to access PM's as I have had notification of 1 for most of the day and now it is 3! Can't wait to be able to read them. What a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long 2 hours!:lmao:

Given how long it is taking, my guess is that something has gone very wrong. Either people are scrambling to figure out what to do about it, or they aren't even aware of the problem. :cool2:

I actually pick out my shoes first and them pick 3-4 outfits that go with those shoes. These days I go for comfort over style.
Yeah, me too. Last time we took this cruise and I went shopping for something formal/semi-formal, I told the sales lady what color shoes I was trying to match. I told her I had limited packing space and was only taking one pair of fancy shoes. She wasn't much help though. She tried to convince me to take more shoes just so she could sell a dress that didn't meet my requirements. (I haven't gone back to that store since.)

I do love my Birkenstocks though - but 6 of 7 pairs of those don't take up as much room as that many pairs of heels in a suitcase - tennis shoes are the worst. Gotta wear those on the plane - right after I buy a new pair that is.
Do you have any of the Disney Birkenstocks? I've never worn them myself, but seeing how cute some of them are I've been tempted.

Guess what...

Okay, this is freaking me out. So much to do, so little time. Where has the past year gone?!?!?!
We are anxious to see the World of Color.
I can't wait to see this either. I'm so excited about it that when I hosted a digi scrapping event in July, I themed it after the World of Color, and gave the little World of Color digi kit made as a participation prize.

there was a whole stream of discussion about doing laundry on the cruise. DH and I will absolutely be doing laundry on the cruise! I hope y'all don't mind seeing the same 5 or so outfits over and over. jk, i'll have more than that, but not much.
I did laundry a few times on last cruise. I hate powdered soap, though. So I took a package of Dropps and they worked great. I need to find more for this cruise now.

I start with this list and modify as needed.

Previous PC and TA cruisers.

What other theme nights might we have (apart from the usual formal, semi-formal, pirate)?

Just wondering whether to start hunting for stuff.

-Kay
We had Mexican Fiesta night, Tropical night, and one night was Mickey Mouse Club themed in the dining room.

Has anyone else been having trouble accessing private messages or your subscription list today? I can get on these boards fine, but when I click private messages or UserCP I get an error message saying the boards will be down for 2 hours for an update. It's been WAY more than 2 hours.
I get that error when I try to access my User Control Panel. I thought it might be a cookie problem, but I don't know how to clear just cookies for the DIS.

Sad to say but no. I have wide feet and the ones that I have seen that I think are just so awesome are the Mary Jane's and I don't think they would fit.

Gail, some of the Birkenstocks are wide fitting. I had 3 perfect pairs for me from QVC(UK), and sent for another pair last year and they were far too wide. Unfortunately I'm not sure if they tell you, so unless you can go somewhere to try loads on it could be difficult finding them.

I finally tried rebooting, Marilyn, and it worked. After the reboot, I was able to access both. Maybe that will work for you, too?

Oh man. I have wide feet and I would LOVE some cute shoes. So, I got on line last night and googled wide shoes and then selected. Of course Zappos has lots and lots but they weren't really drop dead cute. Torrid used to have some cute shoes but now they look like roman gladiator shoes. What's up with THAT?? Anyway, one of the sites that came up on the list catered to "cross dressers" and I thought WELL! those ought to be wide enough.:rotfl2: couldn't resist looking. Man, SOME of them were SO CUTE! (the shoes, girls, the SHOES!) but unfortunately, the sizing began at 9and I wear a 7.5, so, I still don't have any cute shoes. I did figure out though, where the parade Cruella de ville gets "her" shoes:laughing:

Linda, there's a website out there called Barking Dog Shoes. She's got funky feet and reviews cute, yet comfortable shoes for those of us with less than perfect feet. You might want to check it out to see what she recommends. The shoes she reviews are not cheap, but they are good quality.

Well things are working again albeit a little slowly. 3 of my 4 PM's were identical, but posted at different times through the day, so something was funny there. Anyway, all is well once again - for now anyway!:lmao:

Some funny things come up sometimes when you Google!!:rotfl:
