I may have missed it but has anyone guessed about what the total tips per person will be - the suggested amount anyway? (Last time i slipped cash in with the prepaid tips to 2 especially wonderful people.) Trying to save/figure costs. It's a bit easier since we used DVC points taht were not going to be used elsewhere, but still want some idea. It's just easier, not easy!!

Have a good evening - wish i was WDW'ing before January!!

I've been trying to save up for this, as well as other expenses, for the cruise. Based on past experience, as well as what I looked up not too long ago, this is the recommended breakdown for tips:

$4/day/person for Server and Stateroom Host
$3/day/person for Assistant Server
$1/day/person for Head Server

www.cruisetip.tpkeller.com/ is a a place you can go to & it will calculate the tips for you. This is a big help as you just pick Disney and how many nights & adults/children and it does the calculation for you.

While you could do a deluxe, you would be more comfortable in a DVC resort. Either 2 studios or a studio and a 1 bedroom (I don't think the 1 bedrooms can accomodate 5 people). You'll appreciate the room.

Totally agree with Jen. If you can swing it, you should look into old Key West - best size value - bigger rooms and bigger kitchens (if ur so inclined - I"m not) and bigger washer/dryer. and i've not checked but since they are older (first DVC if i recall) they may be cheaper. One bedrooms sleep a lot of folk!

On of the Port Orleans resorts, I think POFQ, has 2 beds plus a trundle or daybed. I remember a friend booking a room there for 5.

Some of the AKV 1 BRs can sleep 5. We booked 5 there in 2008. I think that is the only 1 BR that sleeps 5.

I thought about the villas, but we don't need laundry (will do at the Residence Inn the night before the cruise), and I've been instructed that cooking will be prohibited during this stay - so we don't need the kitchen.

I have stayed in an AKL room with bunk beds - it was very nice. I gather Wilderness lodge has a similar option.

Curiously, most of the deluxe resorts are listed as either having rooms with two beds plus a sofabed, or allowing a rollaway, so our options include Contemporary, Beach Club, Wildnerness Lodge, Grand Floridian, AKL and Polynesian.
Boardwalk has a daybed, but it's a bit small from what I hear. Port Orleans Riverside also has a smaller trundle bed. My guess is neither are good options for us.

So I guess I'll continue to contemplate the options :rolleyes1

I think I am going to wait till my Birthday to get a Nook. Hubby and I do not read the same stuff so we want 2 seperate ones. Not looked at the Sony yet. I think I will mostly use it for travel. Last time we went to Europe to visit my husbands family I took 8 books!

We finally have our room paid for, so it seams more real. Now I just have to shop, pack, meet n greet some DIS peeps, then I will be all seat for the Big Day!
We have two daughters, 11 and 8. We are ... well let's just say well into our thirty's .... okok ... were clawing on to our thirties for dear life.
I am excited about this trip, I am almost as excited about meating all ya'll. We do want to do that gift exchange some of ya'll are talking about.
I sure hope they still have 60s, 70s, and 80s nights. I have found some groovey outfits at goodwill ....... We'll have to wait in see, I gues, Tell me more about ya'll and if anyone had kids around our girls ages. Thanks Soothy Mom

Just came back from Virginia meeting with my a Dads Trust lawyer. Oh my this is going to take a long time and a lot of effort. Good thing daddy was very organized, because even with that it's a bit confusing. I miss him something fierce. Its only been 3 weeks, so i guess this is normal. But all the questions I have in my mind - normally i'd go to him to ask - what did you mean by this and what should i do with that and stuff. sigh. :sad1:

OTOH, i get to read all the fun stuff from you guys and that's good. I dont have a clue what we'll do for excursions at this point. DH is pretty darn conservative and so we'll prob only do what disney offers, in hopes that if there is a problem, disney will take care of it (ie hold the ship or whatever). Dont know.

It is good your father was so organised with his things as that is a lot less hassle for you. I hope you are soon sorted. It isn't a fun time at all.

Hi and welcome. Just me and my husband John, no children or grandchildren with us:dance3:.

I have a really good reason.........ding-dong-ditch!!!! My girls (5&6) are not even old enough to have friends playing this prank on us BUT apparently the family next to us has a teenager. Once I'm up I can't fall asleep that easy sooooooo here I am surfing disboards. I'm sure I'll feel the effects of my late night today at work later. :surfweb:

Good Morning everyone!

34 days until we can reserve excursions.

:welcome: to our group and to the DIS. We are going to have an awesome time. We are another couple with grown, married children and no grands yet (well, other than the four legged kind).

Welcome!!! We have an 11 YO daughter and a 4 YO son. There are quite a few tween girls and DD will be so excited to have another one along :goodvibes Because this cruise is during the school year, she was worried that there wouldn't be very many girls around her age. She is really looking forward to making new friends!

I'm so tired of going to the cruiseline website and not finding a list of excursions. Can we speculate when they'll be out?

It's ticking me off Linda since the suites have to be PIF by the 9th. So I just sent an email to conceirge asking if they know anything. If I hear anything, I will let you know

Well, we can speculate. Unfortunately, our speculating doesn't seem to have much impact on when they appear. It does seem they are later than in the past, though I could be wrong about that. :cool2:

It seems that there are a of few of us "older" Disney fans on this trip. It is just my husband and I . We are leaving our children and grandchildren home. We will misss them but I am sure all of us "older " folks will have a great time. We did on the TA, especially since we met a lot of people on the Disboards so we just got right into the action.
Our only downside is that some family situation might interfere with us taking this trip. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

It does say on the site to check back at around 120 days out. So my guess is at 122 or 121 days out you will be able to find out.

Hi!
For our return trip home after the cruise, the airfares are about the same at LAX or SNA. SNA is closer to Disneyland. Anyone have an opinion about which airport we should use?

Thanks! :surfweb:

Everything I've read on the Dis points to SNA. I've also Mapquested both airports compared to DL, and SNA seems like a no-brainer...closer, less traffic, smaller airport. I'm watching airfares out of both, and I really hope SNA works out for us...I don't even mind paying a little more just for the convenience.
