From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 3

For those of you who are wine drinkers and bring your own bottles of wine on board the ship, I have a few questions:

1. Do you take your bottle(s) of wine to the dining room and get charged the cork fee? And, what is the cork fee??

2. Do you just drink your own wine outside of the dining rooms and buy wine from the ship in the dining room? If so, do you bring your own cork screw, or can you get a cork screw (and glasses) from the room steward??

3. For those of you who have to fly to MCO, do you pack wine in your suitcase (we have travel containers for bottles of wine, so we could do this) and bring it that way, or do you buy wine once you get to Florida?

4. If you do buy wine after you get Florida, I have a question about this. We will not be renting a car, but doing Disney transportation. We'll be staying at WDW for a few days before the cruise. Is there any place at Downtown Disney where you can buy bottles of wine? I'm guessing not. And, if not, is it worth a cab ride from WDW to the nearest place that would sell bottles of wine, buy a few bottles, and then take the cab back?? Just wondering if the cab ride would be so expensive it wouldn't make sense.

Ok, that is it. So many questions. But, we've never brought our own wine on board. We've always just purchased bottles and glasses on the ship. But, given this is such a long cruise, we are trying to figure out ways to keep our ship board account low, and we thought if we took our own wine on board, that might help... but I also just don't know if the hassle of taking it on board, or the cork fees, or the cost of taking a cab to buy wine once we get there would end up being just as expensive as if we just bought it on the ship.

Thanks!
kathy

If you have park passes, interesting wines can be bought in France, and also Animal KIngdom. For that matter, interesting wines can be bought at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but of course they won't be cheap.

My table mates brought their bottle from the "anniversary package" to dinner. They *were* asked if it was bought on board, and were not charged a corkage fee because the answer was yes.

I've stayed at the Candy Cane Inn, for the first Disneyland half marathon and loved it. There are roses dripping from the second floor walkway. There's a pool, hot tub, and laundry room. The staff, UNASKED, came in at 3 am to put out food so the racers would have something to eat before they went to run. They arranged to ship my parcels home for me. AND it's within walking distance without crossing the road. But the greatest of these is THE PEOPLE!

PixieDust2 - hope you are feeling MUCH better!

Don't forget Italy too!

And Germany and Canada - at least I think Canada is where the ice wine came from. And, oh yeah, DH said to say all that, except I do like the ice wine :rotfl:.

Good Monday everyone! Another long day at the office for me but happy to be busy too. And I would be another one anxiously awaiting the excursions to be released. Don't know how many we will do but fun planning none the less - and it is a great way to get ideas to then go search for someone else.

Important!!

For any fellow cruisers who may be going to WDW prior to sailing. There are free dining packages available for those days, just announced today. I have already flipped my ressie to take advantage of it. Staying at POP from the 1st to 6th, also booked all my dining and excited I got "Le Cellier" !! Anybody else at POP? Hoping to find someone else to share transportation early to the port.

We are prbably staying at pop but do not have reservations yet. I'll be in touch!

Whatever you do, don't buy the inniskillin in the park. The price is easily 40% over what you can find locally. For a 30 dollar bottle of wine, the price difference might be 5 or 10 bucks, but for a 100 or 150 dollar bottle, its just crazy.

Thanks so much for all the info on the wine! I did not realize you could actually buy bottles of wine at WDW... and it totally makes sense at Epcott! We do have park passes and are going to WDW before the ship, so we might just buy a few bottles at Epcott... or we can try to go to one of the places suggested close to WDW with a short cab ride if the bottles at WDW are too expensive.

I would think there would be a cork fee in the dining room. That is what I want to figure out because if the cork fee is expensive, then it doesn't make sense to bring our own wine to the dining room only to have them charge us practically the price of a full bottle of wine for the cork fee... but having a couple bottles in our stateroom for places in the ship other than the dining room makes a lot of sense to bring our own bottles on.

We'll figure it out! :)

Thanks so much!
Kathy

For those who aren't quite so into wine - Epcot is also a great place to stock up on chocolate - many of the pavillions have chocolate bars from thier home countries.

And chocolate is much easier to lug on board :rolleyes1

Oh, chocolate is my friend!!! ;) ;) I might just have to check into this at Epcott as well as the wine! ;) :thumbsup2 Thanks!!

The cabernet franc ice wine from canada is to die for. expensive as all heck, but amazing.

Never had ice wine from Canada but DH broght some back from Germany years ago and it's great! however, give me the chocolate and no one gets hurt! :-)

however, in reality, there's so much food on the ship...and i dont drink enough to go out of my way to bring it on.

Guess DH and I are in the minority for the drinking (lack thereof) but we have a great time anyway!!

Nothing against the ship's food or desserts - but when it comes to just plain chocolate (especially dark chocolate), the pickings are pretty slim - and not free. :cool2:

well, yea, that's true, but i'm usually too stuffed all the time to miss much of it. i do want it sometimes, but i can deal = well, 15 days....hmmm. not sure. but the other food is so rich, i'm ok with it.

Hi,

Does everyone get dressed up for the pirate party?

My ds has got all the gear but I am not so lucky!

I did on a couple of cruises but... well, no offense to anyone... but the pirate thing is getting a bit old (at least I'm ready for something new)....:confused3

I've noticed not many dress up for the party, relatively. I mean if you do, you wont be alone by any means but I think more dont than do. DH thinks it's silly to dress up and i wont if he wont. and i'm not sorry not to. it could be fun to though. hit those stores after halloween!

Everyone one of our cruises, there's been more dressed as pirates than not. We go all out and get dressed

ATTENTION

PORT ADVENTURES HAVE BEEN POSTED!!!
