I was, I am theer almost every Friday. Not sure about this week. Next time I know for sure I am going is Wed. may 26th when my friend who works for DCL will be staying at the GCV.

For those of you doing laundry, keep an eye out on the mom websites like Money Saving Mom. She lists when Walmart and whatnot have freebies. I have a whole bag of laundry stuff for trips and I've not paid a cent for any of it.

I wonder if I could press my home made laundry soap into tablets using the same kind of gizmo one uses to make homemade bath bombs . . .

I'm back from my weekend at D-land and finally getting a chance to catch up. What an amazing time! I was treated like royalty all weekend long...now I have to re-enter reality and go back to my real job. Bummer!
We only live an hour away from DL, so when Sept. gets close we should talk about meeting. I will encourage Mikayla to post something to all the girls on the tween thread. She made the same comment as many of the other girl... "no one is posting!"

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOTHERS.

We found something new at WalMart that is an ideal thing for both vacations and cruises. It is called Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets. It has detergent, softener and anti-static all in a single sheet.

I just used these this past vacation and they work great. They take up no room at all in a suitcase.

We left the last locks (August) at sundown. And yes, towards the end you couldn't see much.

This time we're going the other direction - and given that our actual time through the canal is unknown, I think there is no way to know before the day of transit exactly where we'll be and when.

In May of 2008 we followed a US sub through the canal so we didn't wait in the lake like I have heard most do and were out in the Pacific somewhere between 4 and 5 if I remember right. I do remember it was still very much daylight when we went under the Bridge of Americas.

I always book inside cabins now. Have been in category 4 twice and spent absolutley no time on the veranda. Yes, it is nice to have a window (won't object to an upgrade to cat 9), but we won't pay extra for it.
We did upgrade to cat 10 this time - was in an 11 last time and it was ok, but having the extra space will be nice.

But it's all a matter of personal preference. If everyone liked inside cabins they'd be more expensive, so I appreciate all those who prefer outside cabins.

We originally booked at cat 12 room back in October, but when we were on in November, we changed to a 9. On the Nov. cruise we had a cat 12 and it was fine for 3 days, but we realized that we wouldn't want it for 15! Hubby doesn't like waking up and not knowing whether it's morning or not. I would gladly take a veranda, but we we are also cheap, a 9 is the best we could do. But i would definitely not say no to an upgrade

I'm another fan of the Purex 3-1 sheets for trips. I buy the fragrance free one. The key is to put the sheets in first and let the water fill up before adding clothes. We have not had any problem with spots. Was it with a specific type of fabric?

I just got a free sample of these in the mail and I really liked them. I didn't even think about taking these on the cruise, but it would definitely save time and space since they are so small.

My first rule of vacation. NO CHORES!!!!! Laundry is a chore. I will do it when I get home.

I normally agree with you, but 15 days is a long time! I'd have to spend money on new undergarments in order to make it through without doing laundry. Although that might be cheaper depending on the cost of laundry on the ship. Does anyone remember how much it costs to use the washer and dryer?

$2 to wash, $2 for each cycle to dry. It took 2 cycles to dry my clothes and I didn't have it packed either. I usually don't like doing laundry on vacation but we had a total of 17 nights between WDW and DCL so I really had no choice. I did just enough to get us by, 3 loads I think. I picked later in the evening but did have to wait a bit for someone to clear out the dryers. We were just down the hall though so at least it was convenient to run back and forth to check the dryer.

Most likely we would use the laundry service for all things but the unmentionables. I am not so sure about sending these out - seems weird. So we will either buy extra as suggested or use the machines provided. I am just not sure yet. See here is where I argue with myself. If I am already going to use the machines for some of my clothes maybe I should just use them for more.

Thanks! That's not a terrible price. Most likely we'll get away with only doing one load, as i really hate to do laundry on vacation. But as i said, there's no way we can go 15 nights without doing it. I think we will be just down the hall as well so it will be convenient. Our plan is to do it before the half way point of the cruise in hopes that it will be less busy then. Never had to do laundry before, so we'll see how it goes

I dont "plan" on doing any laundry while we are on vacation. Now we just may get sloppy with all the good food I'm hearing about and have to do an item or two. But as it stands, I plan on having enough or wearing the same shirt or pants, etc twice...

I have never had a bad experience with laundry on a cruise, but we have only done 7 day cruises and not longer ones.

I try and time the laundry for a less popular time. I also always make sure I am back in time (i.e. before the washer or dryer finishes) so that I am there ready to free up the machine.

I have had to wait for a few minutes for a machine to become available because they were all in use (washing or drying, not sitting there finished). Mostly though a fairly courteous experience.

I have heard of people not getting back in time to empty the machines when their load had finished. Its not rocket science to do that - the machines tell you how much longer they have on their cycle. If someone didn't empty their clothes after 10-15 minutes, I wouldn't have a problem taking them out for them. IMHO that is not unreasonable (of course the other person may have different ideas )

From what I understand, best times to do laundry is on port days, early mornings and late evenings. I would suspect another good time would be during early dinner (for those of us on late dining).

It sounds like some of you have had a much better experience, so my question would be...was her experience the exception or the norm?

On our last PC cruise in 2008 - we had to do laundry twice. I did not see anyone take out wet laundry but I did see people leave thier laundry in way over the time it was supposed to be. Eventually, people did move the dry laundry or if it was damp..it was because it was done and sat there for over half an hour and no one came to claim it or restart it. IMHO - if you leave it..you shouldn't be surprised someone has moved it.

When I did laundry, I stayed put and chatted with the others. We ordered room service delivered to my cabin because it was the close and my DH brought it down for us (cookies and sweets). If I ran back to my cabin, I made sure it was only for a few minutes as I didn't want to chance anything happening to my clothes. Overall, it was fine with everyone just visiting.

As much as I would like to say I will not be doing laundry, I have no choice. 2 nights at WDW, 15 nights on this cruise and another 2 nights on the ship following this cruise, realistically..I do not have the clothes nor do I want to take some much luggage that in the end, it would cost me to bring the clothes. It really is up to you on what you are most comfortable with - it is your vacation and only ou know if you can afford to send the clothes out, bring enough with you, or bring a good book and wait for the laundry. Keep in mind..in the laundry room (atleast in 2008 - it may have changed) there is only a small bench to sit on if you find the room.

I have never had a bad laundry room experience but I will say, I have seen what I figure to be dryer contents dumped (and once folded) on the folding table in the laundry rooms on the evenings I go down and iron (yep, I do that too) before dinner. I always go back before my wash cycle finishes. I never leave shirts/tops, slacks in until they are all the way dry anyway so I generally stay until they are done, take them back to the room and then go back and get whatever is left and sit until it is done. It is annoying to be waiting for a machine and not being able to use it because someone has not returned to either put the clean stuff in the dryer or take care of their dry clothes. I guess I would agree, if I waited 15 or 20 minutes for someone to return and they didn't come back, I might be tempted to put their stuff on the table too. Hopefully, I won't have to ever do that.

I was on the TA also and if you went to do laundry on a Sea Day or before the Formal Dinners the room was packed with people ironing and washing. The dryers take twice as long as the washers, so what they really need is 2 dryers for every washer. I must say also that there were alot of clothes that went unclaimed.

are there restricted hours on the washer and dryers? i'd go in at 11pm and do laundry, or when i have my nightly wake up at 3 am for an hour....is that possible or do they restrict times? i do not plan on bringing enough clothes for 17-20 days (we're arriving a day or 2 before but we'll probabably stay at DVC And do laundry the morning before they pick us up for the cruise) (and staying in LA a few days -i'd rather do laundry late on the ship than give up sightseeing time!!

Just returned from the TA and Med and really had no trouble in the laundry room. I used the Purex sheets. The dryers did take a long time especially if you had jeans in them. We only had to wait a few minutes for a washer, I guess I was there at the right time.
