We stayed at Radison in Jan before our Carnival Dream cruise. This time we are going to stay at the Residence Inn which is closer to the port and has a hertz rental car there.

We stayed and the Country Inn & Suites. We really enjoyed it there. The rooms are nice and you get a free breakfast (muffins, bagels waffles, etc.)
We booked it again for our upcoming October cruise.

REsidence, Radisson and Country Inn all offer free breakfasts. Guess it boils down to - which points program you use.

Thanks for your recommendations guys. The free breakfasts don't really bother me as I like to be hungry for the Beach Blanket Buffet when we embark the ship :rotfl: We have booked the Country Inn and Suites, so I'll let you know how we get on when we get back ~ thanks again :)

I just did a buttercream transfer for the cake and placed it on top of a sheetcake that I covered with marshmallow fondant. First buttercream transfer I've tried and I was quite please with the way it turned out. I learned from mistakes I made and know now what to do different next time. And obviously I need so practice on piping words :lmao:
DS wanted Spongebob and DD didn't really care so I just made 1 cake. With DH leaving and all of our family living out of town, we didn't really have a party. Just a couple of friends over to eat. It was actually nice!

Wow !! That cake is amazing, I love it :thumbsup2

Update from the mailbox...BIG Package from DD's first choice school  happy dancing here  and waitlist from second choice...:woohoo:

:yay: That's great news :yay:

:flower3: Happy Mother's Day to any mum's/or to your mums in the UK today :flower3:

Have a great Sunday everyone

What do you 'do' with your pins? I have mine tacked onto 16x20 painted canvases, grouped by type -- DCL, DCL trips/ports, Mickey, WDW Parks, DL and Non-Disney trips / pins -- these 'panels' hang on my home office wall and are fun to arrange & rearrange. When we travel I take a picture of each board on my phone so that I don't double buy. DH & DD laugh when 'outsiders' ask if I'm a pin-trader...usually shake their heads and say, 'NOPE, she's a COLLECTOR!':rotfl2:
thats a great idea taking pics, thankfully I never got into the whole pin thing.
All this talk about were to stay and the free breakfasts and all really made me think. I woukd like to preface this by saying to each their own. We are going to be on the ship for 15 nights with a ton of , for lack of a better term, free food. Trust me on this for those who have not done a long cruise. By day 9 you will be so sick of food, of course we will still eat it. LOL. That's all I have.
That is exactly what I thought when decing on the raddison, I really dont need a buffet before setting of for another, dont get me wrong, If I wasnt greedy and could just pick up a few things it would be fine, but I wouldnt, Lynne
Thank you!

Hoping this weather sticks around for awhile! This is ideal weather. :thumbsup2 I did look at the forcast for Atlanta and it looks like the rain should be slowing down.

Have fun at Mickey Mouse House! When DH was packing today, DS walked in and said excitedly "Are we going to Mickey Mouse House?" Needless to say he was a bit disappointed that we weren't!

Also, good luck to your daughter. I remember stalking the mailman for a few days when we were waiting on DH's MCAT scores. It's not easy when you're expecting something like acceptance letters/or test scores.

coooooool cake.

We'll get in mid- afternoon the day before the cruise and probably stay at POFQ (DH's idea- I thought we'd just go and stay at the port but . . . if he insists). Then head to the port the next morning.

Thank you!

I've been making cakes for over 20+ years. The writing is the most difficult thing to do. You would think it's easy. You write everyday, but people who have never tried it have no clue, lol. I would concentrate so much on the writing I would forget how to spell something easy like "birthday"

Hi!
I like that idea. Could you post a picture of one of you pin boards? I'm not sure what you used. What is the canvas painted with /of? And how do you poke holes in a canvas and then are able to rearrange it later? Maybe my idea of a canvas is different then yours!

I have my collection on different lanyards and also grouped by types but they aren't real easy to see that way. They hang in my Mickey / DISNEY laundry room. :laundy: It helps to have some positive and happy things in there other then my sons' dirty clothes!!

Barb

I post mine to cork boards in my hutch, but you could put the cork boards anywhere. I wont wear my pins any where because I'm afraid I'll lose one. I love the idea of taking a pic before I go. I tend to buy doubles.....I know I wont have any doubles from the ship tho, it will be my first DCL ever. Got some precruise info in the mail yesterday. They really know how to keep the excitement growing.

Go to Disneyparks.com. On the left their should be a Blog about it from Thomas Smith.

Thanks - just read all the comments on his blog and now have my questions answered. Did hear back from DVC - no discount on the Premier Pass. Will be looking in the mail for our new passports.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Sunshine here again today - Yay!

DW and I are also going to be looking as well. If not I have the proof I need. Did you notice the answer he gave on the bottom of page two? He clearly states that if you have a active pass to both resorts as of 3/10/10 you get it. When I was at DLR Friday they kept saying that our DLR passes were expireing. I made clear that us true they are expireing they are not expired. I am going to print out that question and answer. Since ge is an employee of the Walt Disney Company they, in my eyes, have to honnor that. I am feeling really good, like I am beating the big bad corperation. I know it is nothing in the long run, but makes me feel good.

If you are renting from Hertz and driving yourself to the Long Beach Airport, I would just take the 110 north to the 405 south and exit Lakewood Blvd North to get to the airport. If you are talking about how to get to the Hertz by the port, that I have no clue. Having never need a car at the Port of Los Angeles I never looked into car rental companies.

Sorry, it was a bit of a dippy post.

How do I get from port to hertz at long beach.

Is there taxis outside the port?

There should be taxis.

We got our room assignment for our April quick cruise, cat 7, 6640. We've stayed in that area before and loved it on the Magic. We actually did the 05 PC cruise in 6634. However, since it is a cast reservation it's very subject to change up to getting to the port and checking in.
Quiet weekend here. THANKFULLY! After the last 10 days, we needed it. While the weather we are having is quite lovely (sunny and high in the high 60's low 70's) I was really hoping for warmer. Jeff's family is coming for a visit with our neice and we want to go to Busch Gardens and the Florida Aquarium. Both have awesome kid's water areas. We may get into the mid 70's this weekend, but it's questionable. If Jack was a kid from up north, I'd have no issue with the weather and water parks. But he's a Florida baby and not use to it being this cold this long!
I know I know, quit my 'itchin!

I've stayed at the Radisson and Residence Inn. Somewhat prefer the Residence Inn, but both are fine.

This time I think we'll stay in Orlando and catch the DCL transportation the next morning. Reasons being:
1. More car rental options and no one-way fee (is easy to drop off the car rental in the morning, take the shuttle to the airport, and catch the DCL transit).
2. Just found Marriott Harbor Lake on sale for $79/night with AAA (steal). I've never been there, but it looks like fun and has a kitchen or kitchenette like residence inn (depending on room size).
Cost savings on hotel and car should offset expensive DCL transit.
3. As long as I'm there in time for lunch, there's no real need to be "first in line" - unlike the short cruises, where every minute on board counts, 15 nights is quite long enough to not be in a great hurry.

That's what I was trying to say

One thing I forgot about Friday. I really wanted to go see the Captian EO tribute. I was great to see it again. I love Hooter. Anyway, they ran the same video for the pre-show as they did when Captian EO first ran. I must be honest, without the in theater lasers it was just missing something. Still I look forward to going to see it again.
