Had a great day at the park today. Shortly before rope drop, I bumped into two sisters (twins) I met about a year ago. They remembered me and we hung out for about 30 minutes. That was fun. They live locally so I hope to see them again soon.
Rope-dropped PP (for the first time in a while -- the twins headed for M&MRR). The line was relatively short and we boarded in about seven minutes. Mr. Toad and Alice were both down when the park opened. MT is one I rarely miss, so that was a minor break in my routine.
On to Buzz. In short, today was a particular challenge. When a friend and I exited our first ride, we found that my score of 1.1M barely made the leader board. Usually a score like that would fall somewhere in the top three. I knew instantly that NAP was there. By 8:30 he already had 2M+ scores in the top two positions. On my second ride I did well: 2,095,000... by my count. I could have scored another 50,000 or so but I stopped shooting because I didn't want to reset my score. When I exited, I was disappointed to see that my score was only 2,050,000 -- the #3 score. My mental count was close but not perfect. I was especially peeved because I could have scored another 40,000 but, again, I stopped shooting. I spent the next 2.5 hours trying to beat the top score of 2,072,000 but I kept hitting various walls: malfunctioning guns, multiple targets not working, etc. As I always say about any of my DL complaints, they're First-World, one-percenter problems. Nonetheless, they're still exceptionally annoying. I always remind myself that I'll go home to warm bed and a meal of my choosing. Millions in the world can't say the same.
Today was Bats Day. In the park's first few hours, I didn't see many people dressed for the annual event (today was it's 24th year). However, when it came time for the castle group pic at 2:30, approximately 2,000 people turned out. It was cool to see all of the like-minded folks -- the sort of subculture that I don't identify with, necessarily, but certainly I'm a sympathizer ;-) -- come out and have a great time! Spirits seemed to be high and I talked with a number of participants. I also met Noah, who created and has organized the event since days one.
I'll head home to Chicago for a bit so I won't be at DL next Sunday. I'll return on May 21
. I won't be able to send any maps until my return, however do feel free to reach out and I'll tend to any requests once I'm home.
Park pics. Not a ton this time but enough to make it worth your time and mine ;-).
