Turn a Profit on Your BMG Music Signup
When you sign-up for the BMG music service through Cashduck.com you receive $22 in your cash earned account. The promotion is the typical 12 cds for the price of one. You know the one that overcharges for shipping and then charges you insane prices for the full price cds. First you order three free cd's and are charged $2.79 ea for s/h for a total of $8.37. Next you have to purchase one regular priced CD for $18.98 and another $2.79 s/h. After you purchase your full price cd you get your remaining 8 free cds, which again come with a $2.79 s/h fee for a total of $22.32 (never mind you could ship all of these media mail for about 5 bucks). So in total we have spent $52.46 and only received back $22. That means we are in the hole $30.46.
Now for the good news. Secondspin.com will buy back your cds for up to $5 each. So if I have 12 new cds sitting around, I can first burn them to my computer so I get to keep the songs, then I can sell them back for as much as $60. Awesome!!! The one catch is that not all cds can be sold back for $5. A lot of good cds can only be sold back for $3, but hey that covers the $2.97 you paid for shipping costs.
What I did was go to the Secondspin.com website before I ordered my BMG cds to see what they were paying $5 for and then adjusted my BMG order accordingly. Now my best case scenario is that all 12 of my cds can be sold for $5 ea which will give me another $60 to go along with my $22 from Cash Duck. Also, keep in mind you pay to ship the cds to Second Spin. You can do this for around $5 if you use media mail via the post office.
So now my maximum profit breaks down like this:
Cash Duck +22.00
BMG -52.46
Second Spin +60
Shipping -5
Total Profit = $24.54
More than likely you will come up a few dollars less than this because if you are like me you will find a cd you really want that Second Spin doesn't seem to want as much. Either way this is a nice way to turn your BMG sign-up into some extra cash.
As a side note I have used second spin in the past to sell some old cds and made about $100. The turnaround time was very quick. Please note they do not accept scratched cds even if they play.
