Ok, so maybe this is more transportation oriented. Anyway, we just switched our reservation from b'fast to dinner b/c everyone said that we HAD to do dinner there. I am thinking we can take the bus from POP to AK. How do you get from AK to AKL? Or should we just take a taxi to begin with? I know you've all been to Boma, so you'll know! :rotfl:

The best route (aside from a taxi, which I'm too cheap to ever use) would be to take a bus from POP to AK and then take a bus from AK to AKL.

Of course, you need to be sure that the buses will still be running between AK and AKL for you to make your dinner ressie because AK closes much earlier than the other parks. So, the bus issue will depend on your ADR time.

BTW, depending on when your ressie is, you could check out some of the activities at AKL. They have storytime by the fire and night vision goggles for looking at the animals. So when's your ADR?:confused3

Hmmm...it's at 6:10pm on Sunday 8/19. I wasn't planning on even going in the parks that day, but you never know...I am easily swayed to the dark side!

You should be good for getting to Boma using AK as a transfer point in terms of availability. The park is open until 6:00 pm that day. But that could mean that there may be a lot of people waiting to get onto the AKL bus. The plus side is that the AK to AKL bus seemed to run frequently. But I would keep all this in mind.

The activities I refered to are all at the resort. When we stayed at AKL in March the fireside chat was at 7:30, I think. I don't know when the sun sets in Aug so that may be later?:confused3 They have the activities posted on a board in the waiting area of Boma. There is a lot to see at the resort and you could definitely get there early to beat the leaving AK crowd and just walk around. There are several animal viewing areas and many other things just around the resort to look at, if you are into that sort of thing.

More than likely, you will need to pick a different transfer station for the ride back to POP. I would think MGM would be pretty good because it is closer to both AKL and POP. The nice thing about AKL is that it doesn't share buses with any other resort, so at least there won't be any other stops in between AKL and where ever you go.

You're eating there on our arrival day. Enjoy!

That's awesome! I would love to go early and check out all the things the resort has to offer. In fact, we were very tempted to stay at AKL, but the rest of the family is at POP and it seemed more convenient to all be together. (Plus, surely after staying there we would never be able to go back to a value resort ;) )Yes, we'll go early for sure. And thanks for the MGM tip for going home...though after a big dinner and the little ones, that may be the best time for shell out for a taxi ride! :) How neat that you are arriving that day. We are kind of arriving that day...we technically arrive the day before but our flight is so late that by the time we actually get to disney, it will be Sunday.

When I went from Pop to AKL for my dinner at Boma I got really lucky. It was near closing time for AK and when I boarded the bus at Pop, I was the only one on it. The driver confirmed that I wanted to go to AK and I said yes. Moments passed and he asked if I was planning to have dinner at RFC that evening. I told him that I was heading to Boma for dinner, and confirmed with him that going by way of AK was the best way to go. He said yes. I sat back and wrote in my travel journal. Next thing I know, we are pulling up outside of AKL! My driver told me to enjoy my dinner! :goodvibes

Here's hoping you get the same bit of magic! pixiedust:

How much is a taxi from POP to Boma? Can 6 people fit in a taxi? (Meaning, are there minvan taxis?)

Yes there are van taxis at Disney. You may want to splurge and take one home from dinner. A nice way to end a good meal and not worry about transferring back to your resort.

Have fun!

I would get a van...I think same rate as taxi....
tell cm outside AKL....they will call one for you...

Boma to POP....
I paid about 20 from boma to pofq....i think pofq is further....

I would imagine a good 15 dollars....
AKL.....is out of the way......it is the most expensive taxi ride
But worth it;)

After dinner the last thing I want is the 2hr commute home..

Thanks for the pixie dust! In general, I'm not very lucky - but hey, it's Disney! You never know...:wizard:

The bus drivers, in my experience, are some of the nicest CM's on property. We always get the best tips from them, and they will go out of their way to help you out.

This is very EASY--we do it every trip!!!
Catch the first bus that comes to ANY park. At that park, switch to the AKL You don't need to be so specific as to catch the AK bus. The last time we took a cab back, it was $17--and worth every penny. We were worn out and happily stuffed.

Take the first bus that comes(except a water park or DD) Then get onto a bus for AKL. You should allow at least 2 hours to get there!

where do you ask about the night vision goggles? are there any maps to the resort? thanks

Nighttime viewing is an actual acitivity, when I look at my resort map with the info on the back, it says:

Animal Viewing with Night Vision: Follow signs from Flamingo Pond.

I think the flamingo pond is by the pool, which is right out the doors from the restaurant area at AKL. You can find a resort map here:

http://www.disneyzone.net/ResortMaps/aklmap.jpg

but it isn't too detailed. There are many links over on the JAMBO thread because they are looking at it all time, discussing the status of construction.

:scared:  Two hours!!!! Are you serious? When making ADRs, they only advised one and I figured that was overkill just to CYA.

As a veteran of over 20 trips to WDW only using Disney Transportation, here's what I would do...

Normally, I would say take the Pop bus to AK and then transfer at AK to the AKL bus. But, as some folks pointed out, you would be going to AK between parade time and closing. The buses to AKL will be packed.

So, take the Pop bus to MGM. From there transfer to the bus at AKL. If you wait more than a few minutes at MGM, look for an unmarked van parked around the bus circle with official looking people inside. They are monitoring bus traffic. Tap on the window and politely inquire as to when they expect the next bus to AKL as you are trying to make your ADRs. The buses are all GPS tracked and if there isn't one close by, they can reroute one for you.

This has the added advantage of only a single stop for each bus. The bus routes to AK always stops at Blizzard Beach. The buses to MK and Epcot would take you out of the way of your destination and you would have to do some backtracking. The bus to DtD would also be heading in the opposite direction from your destination AND stops at Typhoon Lagoon.

Barring any major catastrophe, an hour should be enough time. They will also hold your ADR for 15 minutes in case you run late.

I'll be doing the same thing (staying at POP and dining at BOMA during our stay). Good tips. Thanks...
