We are beginning to think very seriously about buying into DVC. :bounce: We took the tour at SSR, and my mother (who has mobility issues) did not care for the resort:( . Since my mother would be the biggest contributor to the cost, it will be her decision completely!

We just got back from a stay at BWI. Mom really liked that resort and has been checking into resales. Our guide through disney recently had some BWV points, but they sold out to quickly and we missed out.

Looking at our vacationing plans, mom has decided we need 660 points. We need 500 for two weeks in May (this is a definite trip, we will ALWAYS go in May to June!), and she wants an extra 160 for smaller trips throughout the year. We know we want a March or April use year for the May trip, but would we be making a huge mistake by building 160 points with different use years, or at least a different use year from our 500 May points?

Also, if the BWV is where mom wants to be, how important would it be to collect all the 500 points at BWV, realizing it would be difficult to build this number of points all in the same use year at the same resort? Should we just be trying to rack up 660 points all in the same use year, but at different resorts?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! So much great info on these boards, I know you all will give me great advice!!:teeth:

A couple of comments.

Use Year most often comes into play with its relevance to banking deadlines. You can bank 100% of your points in the first 6 mos of your Use Year, then it drops down to 50% for 3 more mos and then 25% for one month.

If you have an April Use Year, you will be using 75% of your almost immediately. Since the remaining points are less than 25% of your total contract, you literally will have 10 full months to bank all of those points.

So, I wouldn't use your particular travel plans as a strong reason to buy multiple contracts. IMO, you're more likely to lose points simply because you'll have trouble keeping the separate years and banking deadlines straight.

You could still look for multiple contracts to get you up to your magical point total. Or, you could just hold tight for a few months and see if a single contract comes along that suits your needs. From what I've seen, contracts with a large number of points tend to be harder to move (owners cannot subdivide a contract), which can drive down the per-point cost of the total transaction.

Contact several resale agents and see what they think about your odds of getting an April UY with 600+ BWV points.

I agree with tjkraz. The only thing I would add is getting to know the "11 month window" issue. It becomes important when talking about ressies to manage the window. If you had multiple contracts in the same use year, but not the same site, you may have trouble booking some in the 11 month window and some in the 7 month window. Managing multiple site contracts can be tricky and if you know you want to stay at BWV, that's where I would look.

Also, like tjkraz mentioned, large point contracts are sometimes a better deal due to the size and inability to split them up.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Okay, your posts have generated another question.

We were told she could will the contract to her daughters. If you can not split a contract, then both her daughters would have access to all 660 points, or could she will it as two 330 point contracts?

Also, if I start buying add ons, in 25 point increments, will those become seperate contracts, or will they become part of the original contract?

Thanks for the quick replies, and all the information. I did not know that you had up to 10 months to bank 25% of your points!!

The things you learn on the DIS!

When you buy 25 points, that becomes a contract. You can have 25 sets of 25 points(or 625 points), all from the same use year, and from the same site, but it's still 25 different contracts. Those contacts will go under one DVC number and you can put them together to make ressies. If you have one 600 point contact, and you would like to will it to two people, it has to be done as one contact, with two names on the new deed, so each person would have access to the same 600 points. If you have 600 points, in two contacts 300 each, you can will one 300 point contract to one person and one 300 point contract to someone else and they will each have access to thier 300 points.

Hope this helps and that it's understandable. If not, I know someone will correct me. Good luck!
