From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

I :lovestruc the kids meal breakfast!!! I honestly get kids meals almost everywhere I go. :thumbsup2

I am glad that others get kids meals, too! :thumbsup2

I wanted to wish you a great vacation in England. :cool1: My BFF lives in London and she just returned from visiting in Italy and said it was so nice to get back to the "cooler" weather in London so I hope that's true for you too!

Have fun!

Heather

It will be great, I know London very well (went to university there and did an additional course there afterwards), so it will be great to visit my favourite places and explore a few new ones! :thumbsup2 And the weather is supposed to be wonderful: sunny and warm, but not hot. I have had enough hot weather here in Berlin recently... :scared1:

Ps. Spezi rules!!! :lovestruc

It does!! I often get Mezzo Mix Zero which finally is available in supermarkets etc. :thumbsup2

What a nice, crowd-free morning at Epcot! You know, I actually don't think Beverly is that bad, either. I'm a gin and tonic drinker - so maybe I like bitter as well!

Yes, when I talked to Katharina she mentioned that she thought it tasted a bit like tonic water as well. :thumbsup2 I am glad to hear that there are others out there which don't hate Beverly either!! :lmao:

I'm honestly shocked by this. I've read so much about special treatment and it just seems that hasn't happened yet. I hope it does at some point in the trip.

As I mentioned in another comment, it was still great to be able to get a meal that worked for Katharina and that she was able to find out about the ingredients. That is something she really struggles with when we go out to eat here in Germany. I think maybe we were just expecting more because just as you we had heard all these wonderful reports. :confused3

And I promise that it does get better! We met some really wonderful chefs!

YUM! Jeff is a huge buffalo/bison fan. You can find it in many restaurants and at the store. We will do buffalo burgers quite often or use buffalo in our pasta instead of beef, a healthier option.

Sounds great! So what would you say to Jen's question: Do you think it tastes gamey? I can't remember any gamey taste, but then I wouldn't mind such a taste either. I see that the bison is another trip to make a trip to the Pacific North West besides the landscape and the incredible lodge Liesa mentioned! :goodvibes

Oh those sound GOOD!

careful, the picture you quoted is the dessert I had in 2008, but this years version was very similar and equally good! :goodvibes

It looks like we will live deep underground??

Did you quote this because you did not understand what I wrote or did it just not get deleted? I was thinking that my comment might not be very clear. There is a scene in the video where I water the plants and then the water gets recycled and flows down through different layers until Katharina gets a drink from the tap and it looks like our kitchen is several meters under the garden - so somewhere deep underground!

A very wise choice!

Especially if wait time is compared to the next morning!

I  Campari, it is my cocktail of choice (Campari and soda with a lemon twist). but most people think it tastes like cough syrup. Now I must try Beverly!

If you love Campari you might find Beverly too sweet for your taste! :rotfl: But I would guess that you are one of those that don't make a funny face after drinking it! Has your family never visited Club Cool??

Have fun in London!! We love it there.
Those Coke shot glasses were really cool! We love shot glasses as souveneirs-- usually fairly cheap and so interesting, even though we don't use them for alcohol.

Thanks! London is a great city, I love it!

Shot glasses are fun souvenirs, but what do you use them for if you don't use them for alcohol?

That sounds wonderful! Have a great hike and we'll talk to you when you return!

Thanks! At least I can promise to update soon after my return, I have nearly all of that Epcot day written already! :thumbsup2

I love to be ahead in writing the TR, but I am not in that situation right now! Lately I've been posting them just after writing them.

By now, I think you've already left, but in case you give it one more check....

HAVE a SUPER, WONDERFUL time hiking!!!!

Cheerio! And we'll see you when you get back.

Glad that you enjoyed your meal at CG. It's one of my favorite places to eat at Disney. I like watching the Fireworks from outside too. I had a bit of that detached feeling the time I watched them from inside.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the good wishes! I had a wonderful first Day in London. And thanks to free WiFi I can say Hi from my phone!

I LOVE civilization!! We just got our very first free Wi-Fi place a couple weeks ago. Glad you're enjoying yourself so far!! One question: are you going to pick up that fantastic British accent while you're there?? ;)

Hello Magdalene & Katharina! :wave2:

I'm finally caught up again and loving all the updates and beautiful pictures!! I haven't had much time online as much lately, but I keep up with my favorites! :lovestruc

I just wanted to say...I think it's so awesome you guys are meeting up with Liesa and her family and showing her around! How cool is that?! :cool1: Liesa - bragging moment - I'm not sure if you remember but I lived there for 2 1/2 years and LOVED it. It's "home" to me (lived in Germany for 10 years) so I know you'll love it! Now that my DS is almost 7, I hope to take him with us overseas so he can experiment and see where I grew up. You are in for a real treat because Nuernberg truly is a very special place! If I can help in any way as well, I'd be glad to. I know the lovely sisters have it covered but I just wanted to throw it out there!

Ok, back to the regularly scheduled programming! :rotfl2:

Heather

I do remember that, Heather!! I remember you saying you missed it very much! You really need to get back there someday and show DS all around!

I'll definitely keep it in mind that you can help answer questions if we have any. Especially since MagdAlene is out of town. We do keep getting out our tourbooks and come across an unknown once in a while. Glad to see you posting again! :goodvibes

:rotfl: She will just LOVE you!!!! :lmao: (maybe she can bring them for maroo, so maroo can save her snack credits/spare change! ;))

I"m watching the lot of you..... Always watching...

Well, compared to steak a little bit but much less gamey than say, venison. I think Liesa was steering you to the Timberline Lodge, at Mt. Hood, which does have an amazing brunch and some fun hiking but you should also consider Salish Lodge and the Snoqualmie Falls when you make your trek out. That way you can see the best of both OR and WA lol!

http://www.salishlodge.com/

It is amazingly beautiful, incredible food, spa, everything. I am biased though, we actually go to Salish a few times a year, and were married there.

Taylor was actually snowboarding at Mt. Hood just 2 weeks ago on the glacier!

I had a feeling I snagged the wrong pic

the latter.:rotfl:

No, we haven't. Just ran out of time last trip and historically we stay outdoors as much as possible but we plan to visit club cool this time! I love Campari and soda, what is interesting is how few places know how to make it correctly, it often has WAY too much campari, it's just not something you'd drink straight. Bleh!

I"m watching the lot of you..... Always watching...

:rotfl: Henry says this, "I'm watching you..." from Monsters, Inc, to me daily. I look like Roz in the morning due to my short hair standing STRAIGHT up!

Magdalene - I laughed out loud at your cell phone wanting to type in German, but you attempting to type in English! That cannot be an easy feat!!!

:rotfl2: I was referring to that quote exactly when I wrote it!! I think it's perhaps my favorite movie quote of all time!

I think we all have our "Roz moments". :lmao:

My computer switches to Cyrillic sometimes, and it's so funny what comes out when your trying to type in one language and the Machine wants to do something else. :lmao:

As long as I REALLY don't look like Roz I'm okay with him teasing me a bit...

I love that line too - and we've been watching it almost daily for 3 weeks now. Though, today he opted for UP!!!! :yay: <-- me, jumping for joy!

..

Thanks!! :). I absolutely can't wait for your trip and to hear what you think about everything. I'm not sure you are into sausage/bratwurst but if you are you guys must have a famous Nuernberg bratwurst! I know Magdalene must have already mentioned this. When do you guys leave?

Free wifi rules Magdalene! I hope you are enjoying your trip so far :cool1:

Heather

I though you might be interested in this:

I talked to Magdalene yesterday and she is enjoying London very much. She went to see Buckingham palace yesterday, it was the first day of the summer opening, and she said it was absolutely amazing! She has one more day in London and leaves for Devon on Thursday!

We have definitely planned on getting some sausages- most likely our first one will be at the Crafts Yard on our way from the train station to our hotel. WE LOVE brats!

We leave our city on the 15th, and arrive in Nuremberg on the 17th, and we'll have two whole days there!

I can't wait to see all her pix! So glad she can have this break before moving down to Nuremberg in a few weeks!

Hi everyone! I had a few great days in London and afterwards a fantastic four days walking along the coast in Dorset. I just got back and promise to post a few pictures tomorrow along with a new update and replies!

Katharina is leaving for Finland tomorrow, but she did edit the next updates, so we will be able to progress with this trip report again! :goodvibes
