From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

Magdalene and Katharina,

Fröhliche Weihnachten - Merry Christmas!

Thank you for the pictures of Christkindlesmarkt - how wonderful to enjoy such traditions and take the time to share it with us! I think many of us would very much like to visit Nuremberg some day during Advent.

Christmas wishes and blessings to your family!

Merry Christmas Magdalene and Katharina!!!! Hope you are both having a wonderful day:goodvibes

Happy Christmas, Magdalene and Katharina.

Thanks for the tour. I loved seeing all the shops. It reminded me of Leavenworth, WA where my ex-inlaws lived in the 70s and 80s. We used to visit often and especially during the winter holidays. At that time it was mainly locals who shopped in Leavenworth but now it has turned into a tourist village and although still beautiful it is much too crowded to be enjoyable.

You look great in your dirndl dress. I think I can see the hidden Mickey, not sure about the hidden Homer. I will have to keep looking.

I LOVE your dirndle picture, Katharina!! Just lovely! Your tree is so sweet too- and I saw the hidden Mickey immediately! It looks like a noble fir- we grow most of the Christmas trees sold in the US right here in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I have 3 tree farms on my own street in fact.

I had to let you know that we JUST finished dessert, and the marzipan you sent was delishous in our cookie tray of lebkuchen (also given by you (the spices)), the springerle, and some Dutch butter cookies. This morning for breakfast we had some imported marzipanstollen as well, so it was quite a Germanesque day we've had in the food department!! :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Thank you! Well, Homer is actually just a big blob of yellow and not in the tree...

Okay according to Kyle one of the ornaments is Mickey !! :confused3

That's right!!! I bought on our last trip to DLP, it's real glass and I'm glad it survived the trip back without getting broken. It's a little bit too big for the small tree.

It is a Nordmann fir, I think this is the most common type of Christmas tree in Germany. Remy bought it already two or three weeks before Christmas while I was away for the weekend. None of us has ever bought a Christmas tree, so he was very unsure and took a lot of time. As his family has lots and lots of trees of their own, they usually just drive to their forest and cut one on of their own trees. He even confused the sellers by wanting to know the county where the trees come from. But they didn't know, only that it is a German tree.

I'm glad you liked it. As mentioned before Remy and I are big lovers of Marzipan as well and fortunately my mother in law knows that and always gives each one a Marzipanbrot for Christmas :goodvibes Mine is still untouched, because there were some little Marzipan thingies as well in her parcel!

I hope both of you had a wonderful holiday! I LOVED the Christmas Market pictures! I am going to send the links to my Mom. I recognized the little wooden decorations that have the spots for candles which make the wheel on top move to make it rotate...oh wow, that's a BAD description! I hope you know what I'm talking about! Anyway, we had one of those growing up! I was fascinated with it as a child and always playing with it-which made my Mom yell at me. I never understood why she was so protective of it, but I do now!

I am wondering if my Mom's nativity scene is from Germany too, it looks a lot like the one you posted. I'll have to ask!

And Katharina, the dirndl picture is fantastic! I love your cute little tree, and I did spot the Hidden Mickey! I also really like all the windows in your apartment too, that is such a nice feature of an apartment making it feel so bright, cheery and spacious-one which ours is lacking in!
