Newport Bay Club:
pros:
- décor we love the theme! It is light and nautical, very much our taste!
- cheaper
- possibility to eat breakfast in the Disneyland park during EMH (usually every day from 8 to 10 am, the park does not open until 10 am) subject to availability
- stayed there in 1997 and have very fond memories of that trip
cons:
- large hotel with long hallways
- quite a few reports about bad state of the rooms (a real problem at DLP, they can't afford the urgently needed refurbishments)
- further away from the parks, most direct path currently closed due to construction, so about a 15 minute walk to park entrances
- general breakfast chaos (all hotels include complimentary continental breakfast, the restaurants are horribly crowded for that)
Hotel New York:
pros:
- close to parks (8 minutes walk)
- reports about state of rooms much better
- new hotel for us
- better breakfast offerings, less chaotic restaurants during breakfast
cons:
- ugly rooms
- more expensive
- no breakfast in the parks option
So, if you feel like it, any input would be very much appreciated!!!
I will start with my thoughts about your hotel choices. I would say it depends on realistically how much time you plan to spend in the park and other attractions vs how much actual time you will spend in the room. Under normal circumstances, I figure we aren't going to be in the room very much except to sleep. Also, just how many times would you take advantage of eating breakfast in the park if it was available to you??? In my case, I would figure eating breakfast in the park was really no big deal, so if the "more" expensive isn't a problem, I would go with Hotel New York! Since the goal appears to be the park, having it closer is higher up on the priority list. Also, since the main function of the room would be sleeping then cleaner, nicer, more comfortable rooms would be much better!

You can't see the "ugly" theming in the dark anyway!

Throw in the better, less chaotic breakfast, which we would probably take advantage of more often, and I think it is an easy choice, at least for me.
Was reading your last response to me and realized I never went back and commented on your latest updates!

That butterfinger cupcake looks and sounds amazing, but I'm not sure I could handle that much sugar either, at least not that early in the day. Great job on rope drop and TSM!

When we were there in 2009 (the infamous meet glennbo123 trip) we actually headed to the MK on a rainy morning, and it was great early on too with low crowds. By the time it started clearing up and the crowds began to arrive, we had done most of the things we wanted with pretty much no wait, and had collected lots of FPs. But that much rain!!!

Of course, once you're wet, you're wet. Glad it wasn't cold too. Still, having the parks that empty is pretty cool!

Love the pictures, and nice job "singing in the rain" to you and Katharina!

I'm wondering now if I ever get caught in the rain there sometime, how many people might head there and try to use that umbrella????
I love the character meets too, and always participate with enthusiasm. I like to make comments and see what kind of reaction I get. The most fun is when I flirt with the female characters and the male counterpart is there. It is funny to see how they stay in character (although Mr. Incredible can be quite intimidating when you're flirting with his wife).

I'm not sure why you thought it appropriate that you were paired with fluffy Sulley though. Fluffy is not a word I would use to describe you for sure!
We have never done Sci-Fi. One day we may break down and try it, but every time I read a report the positives always revolve around the theming, but the only positives about the food that I consistently see is for the burgers and the onion rings. We always go to 50's Prime Time when we are at DHS (scheduled again this trip) and love the theming AND the food, and we have tried a lot of different things on the menu. If I'm really in the mood for a burger some day, along with the rest of the family, maybe we will try to walk in at Sci-Fi, but until then I think I will stick with some place that gives me way more options. The boys love the bottomless vanilla and cherry cokes at 50's PT too (no diet). Personally I think the vanilla coke reminds me of a coke float, so it doesn't seem strange. And are you sure that was a turkey sandwich???

(just kidding!!!)
I'm thinking I might have to get an ice cream sundae when we eat there, just for the spoon!!! (Right Rosie??)
