From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

You ninja-posted there!! It was a great visit! I hope you will enjoy your meet with Liesa as much as I did! I think it is quite funny what a small world the DIS is - out of the three DISers I have met so far in real life (you, Liesa and RachelTori - not counting Katharina), two are having a meet set up as well! :goodvibes I really hope that you and I will have another meet at some point which will hopefully last a bit longer than the last one! :goodvibes

I never thought about that with Liesa! Funny!!

I hope we can meet up again too for a longer time...and Henry be feeling completely okay for the trip so my mind isn't frazzled! We don't have all of our 2011 dates set yet...so maybe, just maybe!

It seems that DISers tend to be at WDW at the same time of years anyway... :goodvibes

I am still in the process of settling in in Nuremberg and sorting through my stuff. But I have some pictures I want to share with you and hope to keep you entertained that way!

As you know, Liesa (All7ofUs), her DH and her three youngest children were spending two days in Nuremberg last week. Katharina and I met them one afternoon for a guided tour of the casemates of the Nuremberg castle and of an underground water supply system - it was an underground tour. Liesa's family had picked that tour and I found it really fascinating as it showed me a side of Nuremberg I did not know!! :goodvibes After the tour we went to my parents' house for dinner and afterwards Liesa, Katharina and I got to spend an ladies' evening! :cloud9: It was a wonderful visit with lovely people!

Katharina and I even got some gifts from the Central Asian country where Lieasa's family lived and worked for the last 10 years:

These do look really warm!

My mother found the perfect place for it on this little shelf in their living room.
Good choice mom!

This is the three ladies on my sofa at the end of the evening:

Hi ladies I'll be seeing you soon! :goodvibes:hug:

And the next DISer will be in Nuremberg at the end of September lovealldisney and I are in the process of planning a meet when she and her DH travel through Germany. And it looks like they will meet Katharina in Berlin as well!

Yep that's me! I am so looking forward to meeting you lovely ladies, you have been so helpful with planning our trip!

Katharina and I stayed on for the weekend (Katharina's DH came to Nuremberg then as well) and on Saturday we went hiking with our father in the area around Nuremberg, which is called Franconia. Supposedly it is so special, that there even is an town in the White Mountains in New Hampshire that was named Franconia because of its similarity to the area where we went for our hike! :thumbsup2

Beautiful pictures Magdalena!

Here are some impressions - as you can see it is high season for mushrooms at the moment! :lmao:

She has some serious eating ahead of her!

Ok, I hope Katharina won't be mad at me for posting the last picture! :goodvibes I just wanted to show the size of the meal! Actually, I had the same... :rolleyes1 And we were able to take most of it with us afterwards. It is a dish called Schäufele - it is a rosted pork shoulder. Very delicious!!

It looks like you had a fun day! Loved all the mushroom pictures! The red ones remind me of something you would see at Disney! What is that on Katharina's plate? Are they potatoes or a dumpling of some kind?

I forgot to mention too how interesting your mushroom photos were....the red ones almost looked fake!!! My father loves going into the woods and picking wild (safe ;)) mushrooms...I have tried some of them and while they are good I don't share his deep fondness for them :rotfl2:
I am going Oct23-29, staying at Kidani (again ;)) eating at Jiko, California Grill, LeCellier, Flying Fish and Bistro...Bistro and CG are new for me. :goodvibes Of course this all ties in with the wonderful offerings of Food and Wine....Belgium is new this year....they are offering Stella Artois which I adore but it would have been more fun with a lambic!!! :thumbsup2

Yum!!!! (Yes I am still interestingly reading... I have just been lurking for a while) I actually had this dish when I was in Nuremberg in 2006 for work. After our meeting with DT, our local team took us out for dinner at a small local place. It was incredible!

Thanks for these beautiful pictures! I was there in September 2008, a three weeks trip to New York and then driving through New England. It was a wonderful trip with my BF at that time. We stayed three nights in North Conway just before the leaf season fully started. And to be honest, the White Mountains are way more spectacular than Franconia, Germany! :goodvibes

This is my favourite picture from Franconia Notch:

Awesome picture!

WOW where have I been!!! Well I'm off to catch up!!!! Sorry I'm so late to the party!!!

Hey, that's right beside where I ate one of the most delicious meals of my whole life!! :cloud9: I'm so glad she is enjoying it! And such a fun story to go with it! Meaningful for BOTH of your parents! :thumbsup2

Hope the unpacking and resettling in is going well!

Hi Magdalene and Katharina!

I am finally up to date with your trip report!!!:banana:

What a great report!! Your photos are awesome and you give a lot of great insight to the parks!

There's too much to comment on, but here are a few things I jotted down along the way...

Magdalene - I hate cilantro too!!

I laughed so hard when you told of how you messed up with the alarm and actually got out of bed and got ready for a day in the parks!! :lmao:

I loved the tour of Animal Kingdom - I definitely want to do that some day.

I haven't done EE yet and now I will remember (thanks to you) to ask for the front row - hopefully I won't be too scared!! :scared1:

Your dinner at Flying Fish looked awesome - especially the crab cakes!

Love that you used the word "peckish". My sister and I say that too!

Sounds like you had such a wonderful time with Liesa!

The red mushrooms look like they are straight out of a fairy tale - awesome!

Well I could go on and on, but I'll stop now! :rotfl:

So happy I am caught up so that I can follow along the rest of the way!!

Thank the Lord, I haven't missed much!!! I'm STILL amazed at those red mushrooms!! (Yes, I actually went back and read the last installment again- it's THAT compelling!)

I know I'm late but I'm here.

I used the links so I'm up to date on the trip, but I did skip the chatter.

Loving your trip so far.

I want to take the tour in AK after reading about it here. Your photos are beautiful and love learning about Germany along the way.

First of all: sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to my own thread, but I promise that the TR will restart soon!! :goodvibes First a few replies and then a non-update from me!!

It looks like you had a fun day! Loved all the mushroom pictures! The red ones remind me of something you would see at Disney! What is that on Katharina's plate? Are they potatoes or a dumpling of some kind?

Hi Wendy! It was a great day and the red mushrooms really are very special! Katharina had potato dumplings on her plate - I guess you will have tried them yourself by now! :goodvibes It was wonderful to meet up with you and your DH!! :cool1:

I just found your trip report last week, and it took me all weekend to catch up! I am loving it! I can't wait to hear more.

Hi and :welcome: I am sorry that after you found it, the TR had kind of stopped, but we will be moving forward again soon, so I am looking forward to having you along! :goodvibes

Thanks for the mushroom comment! Your trip sounds wonderful. So many great restaurants. I think this last trip has turned me into a bit of a snob with regard to Disney restaurants. We just enjoyed the signature restaurants so much more!!

Yum!!!! (Yes I am still interestingly reading... I have just been lurking for a while) I actually had this dish when I was in Nuremberg in 2006 for work. After our meeting with DT, our local team took us out for dinner at a small local place. It was incredible!

I did not know that you had been to Nuremberg for work! The local team did a good job showing you the local cuisine! :thumbsup2

WOW where have I been!!! Well I'm off to catch up!!!! Sorry I'm so late to the party!!!

:welcome: Don't worry about being late, it seems I am rather behind on my own TR as well... :rolleyes1

Great pix !!!The red mushrooms are very interesting !!!

Thanks! I have not very often seen them out in the woods, so it was quite special.

Hey, that's right beside where I ate one of the most delicious meals of my whole life!! :cloud9: I'm so glad she is enjoying it! And such a fun story to go with it! Meaningful for BOTH of your parents! :thumbsup2

I am glad you liked the story! :goodvibes

It looks like you all had such a wonderful meet! What a great chance to meet each other. :goodvibes

It was wonderful, but much too short!!

Hope the unpacking and resettling in is going well!

It went well (still a few things to get done, but mostly I have arrived) - I really hope to get this TR restarted now!! :goodvibes

I'm Here now gotta go back and read EVERYTHING!!!!:lmao:

:welcome: Great to have you here!
