From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

Sorry, I nearly missed your post and I have no idea why.

OK, can someone make a guess on what the lady in the brown capris is DOING?? Is she getting ready to throw her Coke?? I just can't make a guess!

That's what it looks like... :confused3 strange people... :sad2:

LOVELY! Aviaries are GREAT!!! As are fish habitats!

You will have fun exploring the trails!

Oh and I found out something about Rafiki: they normally do veterinary procedures there everyday according to this website:

I'm here - all caught up! The Wild by Design tour sounds amazing!! I would love to take it sometime. I also really enjoyed your Airport BBQ post, what a cool park! :thumbsup2

I have yet to try Flame Tree, that pulled pork sandwich looks delicious! When I do get to Flame Tree I think that will be my choice.

Well all caught up finally.
Lovely and thank you for taking us on your tour with pictures.

You ladies look lovely in the photos. Love the disney shirts.:thumbsup2

I really enjoy the seating for flame tree bbq.

Hi Brook, great to have you along again! :goodvibes I am sure you would enjoy the tour, it is great for everyone who loves the details of AK!

The problem with Flame Tree is its lack of AC, so I guess during the warmer months it might be a bit uncomfortable. But its perfect in the winter! :thumbsup2 And I am afraid that - looking at your ticker - it will be closed for rehab during your next visit. :sad2:

Hi Kim, thanks for the nice compliments! Getting the t-shirt Katharina is wearing was even quite a bit of an adventure. We ordered it through Zazzle from the US which resulted in having to go to the post office to pay duty on it. It still was pretty affordable because we used a discount code. :goodvibes

Flame Tree's seting areas are absolute wonderful. We talked about them on the tour, but this is a story that you will have to take the tour for (or read the AK Imagineering Guide). :goodvibes

Cool i just purchased all the imagineering guides...:thumbsup2

They are great little books and not too expensive either! I still miss the one on DHS, but I think it still hasn't been published...

I do that all the time... I probably confuse a lot of people in my replies because they are sometimes very out of order. :rotfl2:

If you only knew the stories with some of the pix, it might make for some pretty hilarious intrigue.

I think I"m more excited about the trails than even the rides, really. Remember my trip motto: Slow down and smell the roses.

Will check that out now. I hope it's true. Either way, I think I may check at guest services when I get there for a schedule. Oh wait, there's poo facts over there. Never mind, that alone is worth the train trip. :lmao:

I haven't seen the guide for DHS either, so you may be correct. Still looking for it tho. I like that they are small and travel well in my purse, therefore they travel with me.

That is the issue we ran into last September. I had my heart set on Flame Tree, but I was veryyyyy hot, so we ended up at Pizzafari. (much to Joe's delight!) I was going to make myself tough it out this time, but...I didn't realize it was going down for rehab. Bummer! Well, I guess it goes on the "next trip" list again! Maybe we'll be in the mood for burgers and try Restaurantosoarus. Or how ever you spell it!

I am loving your TR! You have an amazing talent for writing...and not even in your first language. I am a huge fan of Germany. I had the pleasure of visiting several times while my sister lived there. I also have a friend that lives in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Love the food as well.....St. Louis does not have a decent German restaurant and I would love some sauerbraten or rouladen right now!:thumbsup2

I have done the trails quite often now, but I understand what you mean. You will find out later in the trip, Katharina asked specifically to go back to the trails! :goodvibes

I checked on amazon and it is now supposed to be published on July 27. I might actually pre-order it for myself! :goodvibes

Katharina and I really liked Restorantausorus (not sure about spelling either). A review will come up later in the TR! :thumbsup2

Hi from Rosie !!!!

Hi Rosie!

Thursday greetings! (Hey, Rosie!!)

Hi Christine!! :yay:

I am loving your TR! You have an amazing talent for writing...and not even in your first language. I am a huge fan of Germany. I had the pleasure of visiting several times while my sister lived there. I also have a friend that lives in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Love the food as well.....St. Louis does not have a decent German restaurant and I would love some sauerbraten or rouladen right now!:thumbsup2

:welcome: and thank you very much for the compliments!! I don't consider myself to be a good writer, Katharina is much more talented in that department. :goodvibes

One reason why I enjoy writing the TR and being on the DIS in general is that it really helps me to not forget my language skills. I spent one year at university in London and used to date an English guy for some time and then I worked for an international law firm where a lot of the work was in English. So I really got to use English a lot. But now I don't have so many opportunities anymore, so things like the DIS and also seeing movies in the original version (instead of the dubbed version which is normally shown in Germany as you most likely know) are really important! :goodvibes

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is beautiful. I am planning on spending a weekend there hiking in the Alps with friends in early September. :thumbsup2

I always thought that St Louis is one of those cities in the US that had a lot of German immigrants, so I am surprised that you don't have a good German restaurant there! In the end you just have to learn how to make Sauerbraten and Rouladen yourself, it really isn't that difficult! ;)

Oh wonderful!! More trail pix coming up later!!

I love the way you freely give out compliments to your sister! You are such a nice sibling!

Hi Flossbolna,

I can't speak for St. Louis, but Milwaukee Wi, where I'm from has a huge German population. Here are some links on the history of Milwaukee and Germans.

http://oldgermanbeerhall.com/index2.html (we even have a beer hall I didn't know this!)

We even have a German Fest every year.

Here is more history of Milwaukee and Germans.

Enjoy. We Milwaukeeans are very proud of our German heritage. :goodvibes

Hey Magdelene! I have started reading your TR and absolutely love everything so far. It's such a different perspective when you have to travel over nine hours (on a plane no less!) to Disney. Thanks for all the great shots of airplane food. I must say that's the best looking plane food I've ever seen! I like Lufthansa though. Good airline :thumbsup2 I'm up to the part where you're stuck on ME. I hate when your resort is the last stop! Anyways, I'll catch up soon :cool2:

Actually St. Louis had a huge German immigrant population. Most of them are now second generation. We do have over 300,000 Bosnians now.....and they live in the area where the Germans once lived. It is called the Bevo area of St. Louis.

I love the Bosnians...they keep an extremely neat and tidy house and yard. They are hard workers and very into family.

I took Germna for 4 years in school but I doubt I could write a sentence now let alone a TR!!!!!You are awesome !!!

Wow, thanks for all the information! I find the German immigration very interesting and had fun checking out all the links! I knew about Milwaukee thanks to another DISer who got me into reading the Betsy and Tacy children's book series. In one of the books Betsy visits her friend Tib in Milwaukee and Tib is from a German family.

And sorry if I already posted this on the TR, but it might have been that I mentioned it on the PTR. There is a rather new museum in Washington on the German American heritage: http://www.gahfusa.org/gahm/gahm.html

I'm happy to hear that and looking forward to it!

Ok, I really need to speed things up a bit. Otherwise you will post your Restaurantosaurus review from September before I get to mine. :scared1:

Hi Jen, great to have you along! :goodvibes I might be slightly biased, but so far Lufthansa is my favourite airline. I also enjoyed British Airways, but unfortunately my experiences with any airline from the US hasn't been great. Can't say anything about Canadian airlines though. :goodvibes

Oh and I think it was only in one of the comments: there was recently an article here in the newspaper that Lufthansa is actually doing serious research on how food and dring (especially wine) tastes different in the air than on the ground. So the food not only looks tasty, it is tasty!

I did some research on Wikipedia about St Louis and it seems that Mr Anheuser and Mr Busch were both German immigrants in St Louis... :drinking1

I took Germna for 4 years in school but I doubt I could write a sentence now let alone a TR!!!!!You are awesome !!!

Don't worry, I had a few more years of English and then went on to go to university in England... :goodvibes But thank you very much for the nice compliment! :flower3:
