From Downtown Disney to MCO

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get from Downtown Disney to the airport? We are going to go shopping for the few hours we have to kill the day of our flight home and I always end up taking some wrong road or getting directions with bad exit numbers on them (off the web - they're not always up-to-date). Anyone have the best, easist way to do this?

I'm trying to remember, so hopefully this is right. Head out of DTD on the boulevard with all the hotels (Hotel Plaza Blvd) like you are heading to Crossroads. Take a right on 535 at Crossroads, but stay in the left lanes. Do not get on I-4. This road will intersect with 417 at Visitana resorts and Lake Buena Vista Suites. Take a left onto 417 and follow the signs to MCO. 417 is a toll road--maybe $2.75 in tolls?

You can also take I4 to 528 (Bee Line) to the airport (436)

This route is less expensive that 417, but can have traffic problems. If it is not during rush hour, I4 is fine. If it is during rush hour, spend the extra money and use 417. There is never any traffic on 417.

Beware though, 417 has unmanned toll booths on all of the exits and some of the entrances, you need exact change or an e-pass. The main toll booths on the hiway itself has a collector to make change.

Are you staying onsite by any chance? The concierges will give you little business card size directions that are very handy!

To get to the airport on 417 you would not go through any unmanned toll booths.

Thanks everyone. I will keep both options in mind depending on what time we leave for the airport. Our flight is at 5:55 pm. What time does traffic usually start getting busy on I-4? We were thinking of leaving for the airport around 3.
