From a fellow Dis'er

I have been thinking this over and with Saluke doing the coding and all... maybe the title VMK is wrapped up in that contract. They close the VMK for a while and then spring something VMK like on us. The link is gone from WDIG's site. They have stated they are working on a way for us to stay in contact with VMK in 'other Disney games'. Don't give up hope. Keep send flats, letters, emails, videos, etc. to everyone you can think of.

If you noticed they got rid of the keep in contact paragraph in the newsletter so I doubt that will happen.

I would pay to play, but ONLY if I could retain DocHT and all of her stuff. The thought of starting from scratch and losing all of my loot would definitely impact my decision.

This is how I feel as well. I have spent too much real cash on Pirate codes and traded in too many DMR for VIRTUAL items. I feel that those should not be taken away from me.

I just received the following PM from a fellow Dis'er. They wish to remain anonymous, so I'm posting it here for them at their request:

"I was talking to my aunt ( Computer Wiz going into making online games soon ) She says yes they say they will close the game to see what the fans think. She says if we stir and get up there they will know what the game is capable of reaching. So depending on our response will keep the game open.

So basically they're just seeing what kind of fan base VMK has and to see if they can change it to pay to play."

The pay to play scenario is what a lot of us are hoping for, I know. I had also thought about the fact that it would possibly be necessary to close VMK for the moment while they revamp to pay-to-play. So not only do we need to keep fighting now, we also need to keep it up if it closes. We CANNOT get discouraged if they do close, and give up on VMK thinking that we've lost. Even if VMK closes, THIS IS NOT OVER. We've got to keep fighting (and we'd have more time to do it!)

It's a long haul.

It is time-consuming.

It's kind of boring writing and sending all those letters.

I know.

But it is so very, very worth it. Do it for your friends, and for the hosts we love, and for the only park fix we have outside the parks themselves. Do it for your escape from the "real world." Do it for the kids who still cry because they're losing something so important to them. Do it for the sake of those whose families have become stronger and more united through VMK, and for those children and adults whose quality of life has been in some measure improved by being able to play it. Do it because there's nothing else out there like it, and never will be.

It's worth it! Isn't it?

Yeah, um, sorry. I'm not believing anything that start with the phrases "Anonymous" and "my aunt."

That's fine. It's pure speculation anyway. But I will vouch for this person and their credibility, they are an active and trusted member of this board.

Once again, I feel compelled to chime in with my two cents...

I too, do not entirely buy the 'Disney is doing this to see what kind of fan base they have with VMK.' (I know that is not the direct quote, it is just the sum of it all) I honestly think it has a lot to do with Sulake and the contract Disney has with them.
That being said, who knows, with all the emails, letters, etc. that have flooded their offices, maybe they have realized how important this little virtual world is to all of us. Maybe they are working right this minute to give us a pay to play version of VMK. Until Disney announces something everything we say here is speculation....and lots of people walking around with their fingers and toes crossed :goodvibes .

Now as for the pay to play VMK, I think it would be great! It would cut down on lots of mules and would probably even cut down on the banning.
Think about it like this: You are paying for your child to play on VMK, he/she has done something to get himself/herself banned. Then he/she comes to you and says "I just got banned, so I need more money from you to create a new account." I am not a parent, but if I was, there is no way I would allow them to create a new account. If they want a new account badly enough, let them save up their allowance, and get it with their own money. I'm willing to bet it would not happen again.
I have joined the sims online, I paid for a month, but since my boyfriend and his girls are not paying I went back to the free test center. The biggest difference I noticed between the pay side and the free side? People were much nicer and more considerate of each other in the pay side. Coincidence? I don't think so.

As for them starting again and all of us losing all our stuff. I think that would be the best way. I too spent hundreds of real $$ to get the pirate quest, in park quest stuff, so I could trade it all away for all my beautiful hats, magic and costumes. But if losing all that means we all get to start fresh and on equal footing, I am more then ok with that, as long as we get to keep our VMK titles. Yes, I will be very sad to see my ears and Minnie hat go, but part of the fun of vmk for me was collecting all that in the first place. It will be nice to get a fresh start, to look forward to new stuff being release (or re-released) again.

About the cost and how many characters you can have on one account. I think if they did it with x amount of player on one account there would be the same problem as was stated above with Toon Town. It would also not solve the mule problem since people like me (not a part of a family that plays) would then have the opportunity to create mules with the x amount I am allowed with my account. But I do think for those families that all play together, maybe there is a way to get it cheaper, like buy one account for (just making this up here) $9.95 a month, or buy two accounts for $15.95 or three accounts for $20.95, etc. You see what I am meaning. It would make it easier/cheaper for the families that play to get the "group" discount rather then having to pay $9.95 for individual characters.:confused3 just an idea...

Rygo, I agree with just about all of your two cents! The only thing I disagree with is that I'd rather keep all of my stuff, but if VMK stayed open (or reopened) and we all had to start fresh, I'd be very much ok with that too.

I also agree on your motivation for making ourselves heard. If it gets Disney to stop and think about what they have, and to recreate it on a non-Sulake platform, or something very similar, then all well and good. Whatever does the job!

Do not get me wrong, I worked very hard (and spent way too much $$) to get all my hats, magic and costumes, and I am beyond sad to see it and my VMK friends all go. But if thats what it takes to keep VMK...that's one spoonful of medicine I am more then willing to take without the help of sugar
