Fringe...

Dang, i keep missing it. Anyone know if I can watch it online? It sounds interesting and so far people seem to either like it or hate it, and I'd like to see which one it will be for me.

Can't find the original thread on this.

I thought I'd give it another try last night. It really is just pretty bad, isn't it?

Not remotely, IMO. DH and I really like it. I like that they (for the most part) wrap up the story at the end of each episode. Of course there is a bigger plot at work, but unlike Lost, there is an end at the the end of the episode.

I really liked the book, and was hopeful for the movie, but I kind of thought the movie blew chunks. I felt the same way about Jurassic Park - LOVED the book, but the movie was pretty bad (except the CGI dinos). ;)

I LOVED JP as a film. I loved the book too, but found myself skipping HUGE chunks of it (when there were computer diagrams and such)

::yes:: Me too! I can't even remember his character's name. I just call him Pacey. :goodvibes

His name is Peter

My thoughts exactly, and I think even dh agrees with us. That makes about three of us here. :rotfl:

I think the concept is good, and they storylines aren't too bad. They really need to do something about the "likeability" of the characters, though.

I think Dr. Bishop is hilarious! Definitely the best character of them all. I think it'll pick up with the characters once Olivia and Peter start feeling some chemistry. You just KNOW it's a-comin'.

Excellent show! We tend to watch it first each night, at about 6:30PM; it's a bit too scary (uh uh for my wife yeah that's the ticket) to watch at 8:00PM or later! :)

I know what you mean! I had trouble falling asleep after that last episode. :scared1:

I love it too! I'm not a big fan of the lead lady, but I like the story and the rest of the cast. I wasn't a Dawson's fan, but I like Joshua Jackson in this.

I really really like it. But I really like weird stuff. And the endings have been really cool so far. Oh and when did Pacey get so... ummm hot?

What!?!? Bad?!?! I don't think so! It's fantastic!

I absolutely love Walter. He is now my favorite TV character ever. His one-liners make the show for me. And I love the cow!

All four of us (me, DH, DD16 and DS13) watch together. Of course we are all science geeks, plus Fringe was created by JJ Abrams, the creator of Lost, so I think we were all predisposed to like it. It's definitely must-see-TV here.

row row row your boat... :rolleyes1

I loved it? I can't believe there are folks that don't like this. Pacey, or whoever he is this time, is perfect. Not likeable? I even sort of like the lead actress, and at first she sort of felt like "Hey we can't get Poppy Montgomery because she's on Without a Trace but this one looks just like her".

To each his own though I suppose :) God knows I can't stand some of the things other people like, or something.

I really liked the first two episodes! It seems like it's going to be one of my "can't miss" shows this year, along with Lost and Heroes. Of course, I was always glued to the TV for X-Files, as well, and the second episode of Fringe reminded me quite a bit of The X-Files.
Okay, you are the perfect person to ask since you are a Lost fan and I haven't yet been able to watch this series...

I love Lost and this show is from the creator of Lost. Is this show anything like Lost? What I means is, in the "What the heck is going on here!?!" kinda way. I love how unpredictable Lost is and since that show is coming to an end soon. I would love to find another must see show to replace it. I'm hoping this is it.

Oh, and can someone tell me when and on what network this airs? I have no idea and probably explains why I have yet to see it.

I liked the Relic !! im a big fan of Preston & Child, I know the book was much better but the movie wasn't as bad as I expected :rotfl:

I love those two authors.

I'm really pleased with Fringe so far. :thumbsup2

Well...I'm not Scurvy but I'm a big Lost fan so I'll answer...

It is a bit like Lost, and yet completely different. There is a large, questionable company that has something to do with what is going on, but we don't know what. While each episode is neatly tied up at the end, there is also a running plotline of a "What the heck is going on here?" nature. The show is, basically, about the Fringe sciences (mind control, reanimiaton, genetic manipulation/mutation, regeneration, etc.) I'd definitely recommend trying it out. We love it!

It was funny...the first episode was filled with minor similarities to Lost. It begins with a plane emergency, there is a bedroom scene between two good-lucking blondes (a la Goodwin and Juliet), there is a large, suspicious company (a la Dharma), etc. I don't know if they were intentional nods to Lost, but they made us laugh!

The show is on Fox on Tuesdays at 9:00. Do you have the first two episodes to see? If not I would be happy to put them on a DVD (I DVR'd them) and send it to you. I think you really need to see at least the first episode for some vital info. PM me with your address if you're interested.

Kycha - It remind me of Lost in a way though it feels more like The X-Files. There is the big conspiracy like Lost has. The show as a whole as stranger than Lost, but because it is so strange the really weird moments don't feel as weird (to me) as the weird moments on Lost. They just aren't quite as "out of left field" as the strange moments on Lost, if that makes sense.

It airs on Fox on Tuesday at 8:00 central.

I really liked it too :confused3 I think this weeks episodes was a big improvement from the pilot and the acting will hopefully continue to get better! My DH actually caught the beginning and got engrossed and stayed for the whole thing. That NEVER happens in our house!

Kycha-
I am a big JJ fan and I actually think the show is more like Alias than Lost. In Alias there was always a central "crisis" for the episode and off Sydney went to "save the world" but then at the end it was part of a larger conspiracy. Kind of how Fringe is in that they solve the paranormal event this week but then it somehow ties into the "pattern". Except for some of the music, I just don't see as much LOST in it as I do Alias and the X-Files.

My DH really likes this show. I think it's pretty good just not my kind of show.

Same here. I just don't have time for a show that is never going to end... I feel like some sucker watching for an hour just to be left with more questions at the end of each show.

Mikeeee

but I guess it is better than star trek the next generation, where every show dilemma was explained away in the last five minutes with some excuse about "the phase-time conjugate"

I'm another big fan of LOST and have to agree with everyone else. There's no big 'OMG Lostzilla!!' moments on Fringe. It feels like it's going to have more of an X-Files mythology thing going on, while still giving you answers to some things (whatever 'case' they are working on) each week. I almost feel like the LOST guys learned something about the need to give your audience more answers while still keeping the mythology mysterious.

It's a great show and really fun to watch.

For the record, it's on FOX at either 8 or 9 pm. I forget because my TiVo takes care of the rest. But my best friend says you can stream all the episodes on the Fox website. I'd say start there, then you can get all caught up before next week! :)
