While we are staying at Disney, friends were planning on stopping by our hotel and visiting for the day... Is this allowed, can they park there, if so for how long? Thank you.

Yes it's allowed. How long they can stay and whether or not they will have to Valet depends on where you're staying.

We have had friends and family who live in the area visit us and park at the resort without any issues. Generally, they were just there for the afternoon - we had lunch together and walked around the resort. But just as @dansdad mentioned at Boardwalk Inn my brother in law had to valet, at the Beach Club my cousin was only able to stay for 3 hours and at AoA we had friends that were told 'no problem, stay as long as you like, you are our guest too'

this is interesting because Disney is contemplating beginning to charge for resort parking in order to deter non quest from parking there.

As previous poster mentioned it depends on where you are staying. last august at the Beach club we were reminded numerous times that parking was for hotel guest or those with dining reservations. At a Epcot or MK deluxe, they maybe more stricked at other resorts maybe not so much

But it depends.

If yOu are at CR, they will pay. If you are at CBR, no one will care much. You can calculate the likelihood of pay-to-park based on how close to a park you are staying, and it will be a good guideline.

They will be fine. Make sure they have your room number so when they come through the parking attendant place, things can be checked out. Also, go to the front desk that day and ask for a parking pass for your friends.

Yes, and that was a test but it's not a policy right now.

I have never been able to get a parking pass by saying it is for a friend. The only time I got one was when I said we lost ours. After that I've always been told it is on the MB so just make sure my MB is with me when coming and going.

I know, I just thought it was very interesting. every action eventually has a consequence. Disney generally puts in place policies that they are "testing".
While we on the Dis may feel it's "fine" management maybe getting enough complaints to think it's "not" fine.

It's like pool visiting. The standard answer here on the dis is always "it's fine" just ask the life guard, yada yada yada but the resort policy is simple, pools are the guest staying at that resort. not grandma who wants to visit.

And now we have pools such as BC, AK and rumor the new pool at WL that are basically gated.

do the resorts have a policy stating parking is for resort guest only?

But then what to do in a situation like this when friends are coming to park for the day - maybe not even visit a park but just hang out with the people who are at the resort? Say there is a birthday party at the resort and grandma and grandpa want to come in for the day - not swim or anything, just visit for the party? I'm sure Disney has a solution for that.

If it is a hotel close to the parks and there is no ADR with grandma and grandpa's name then they may be told to park at a park and take a bus back to the hotel. They may also be told they have to valet to be able to park. That is Disney's solution if you are turned away. The current test is to actually charge guests with no ADR and not staying on property to park, if that goes into action then grandma and grandpa would have to pay to park.
