I jsut spoke to a friend of mine who jsut returned from Disney and stayed at the Swan. I had suggested it as she is a fellow teacher. They went only for one night and a relative watched their new baby. They said the room was lovely and they had a great evening walking the boardwalk etc. BUT they were disturbed at 6:00am but loud construction noises. They said at first they waited to see if the noise was just going to be for a short while but after 1/2 hour she went to the front desk and asked. She was told. "Yes, there is construction going on". When she inquired if they could move their room she was told ""No". She said she told them she was very surprised that this was allowed to happen at Disney World she was told they are not a Disney hotel. Which she knew but as I would, she expected to be treated better. I feel terible since we have stayed there on many many occasions and have never had any problems. I told her to write a letter. Her hubby said that maybe it is because they only had to pay the teacher rate so maybe that is why all the noise seemed to be on their side of the building?? Any ideas??

I would expect a paying customer is a paying customer is a paying customer. IE: No matter how much they spent there are basics that they are entitled to. I have heard of many people on this board who have paid the teacher/nurse rate and have an excellent rooms and free upgrades. In my HHO I would be a little upset about the construction, especially with a small child, and not being warned about it; especially at a hotel such as the Swan.

I assume the construction is at the Dolphin (I think they finished renovations at the Swan and have started at the Dolphin by now). Chances are that many people were bothered by the noise. I am not excusing it at all, especially at that hour of the morning, and the staff should have been nicer and more accomodating.

It happens there too!!! We checked into POR at 2 in the morning, only to be jolted out of bed at the crack of dawn by some guy hammering on the roof!!! I immediately called the front desk (she could hear the banging over the phone), and later that day they moved us to Building 14, river view...a prime spot. I kind of found it funny, though, because it was probably the only morning we would not be up at that time, having gone to bed so late. Just our luck!!

We had a similar experience at the BWI many years ago. This was before I discovered these boards and the wealth of imformation they provide:D Fortunatley, we would always get up early and head to the parks as the banging would start very early. I did ask if we could be switched but the hotel was booked and they were not very helpful:( I think if we had planned to spend more time at the resort, I would have been more upset. I hope your friends still managed to have a great trip in spite of the noise. :D

This happen to us in a miami hotel. We were passing thru and stopped for a room around 2am, after only about 4 hrs of sleep we started to hear hammering, it sounded like it was coming from the next room and i thought how rude of our neighbors to make this much noise so early in the morning.
i called the desk and they said they would take care of it. well an hour later the noise still went on. I went to the front desk to check out and asked to speak to the manager, she half apoligized with an attitude, said they had construction going on in the building and asked what i wanted done about it. and then she suggested giving half my money back and said they were not suppose to be starting on the construction till late morning.
as we were walking out to our car we heard a couple of the workers saying the new guy had started pounding to early and the hotel had to give all the money back for a room. LOL...sure always blame the new guy.
this was a nice place too had a balcony room over looking the pool. Made for a long drive that day with being so tired, we were on our way home to michigan.

We stayed at the BWV's last summer and had to deal with the construction noise. They never started that early. Most of the resort guests probably weren't bothered by it since they do it during the day. We actually spend most of the day at the resort since we have kids that nap. We asked them about the noise and they moved us thinking it would be better, but it wasn't. Finally on our last day I packed everything and we moved to the AKL and checked in at 9:30 am. It was so peaceful and relaxing those last 2 days. All of the CM's at the BWV were very apologetic and did what they could to try to make us happy. Ever since then I will never stay where there are doing any rehabs, I will wait for the finished product:D
I just don't understand how hard it is for some of these employees to have some decent customer service? Maybe the resort was full and there really wasn't anywhere for them to move, but at least apologize about it and maybe throw in something (breakfast or drinks). I'm sure your friend would rather spend her money elsewhere on her next trip.

I just really felt bad as I was the one who recomended the hotel. They had a very nice time except for that one big thing. They were planning on sleeping in as it was there first time away from the baby and they were looking forward to a nice restful morning. I think the biggest thing was the rudeness they were shown. She said they really were surprised by the shortness in which they were answered. She also said the hotel was pretty empty as was the whole park. They had breakfast at Spoodles (Loved it)_ and when asked how they were enjoying their stay they told the waiter about the noise and he was also very surprised at the answer they received. They were told quite a few hotels are doing renovations that were not scheduled becasue they have decided to use this "Slow Time" to spruce up. Most of the other hotels seem to be making sure there are no guests staying in the sections that is being painted, etc. They werw told most hotels are at 60 % of what they would normally be at. Even though the Swan Solphin is NOT a Disney run hotel it is still recognized by Disney and for that you expect "Great Things" WE have stayed there 2 times and have had nothing but wonderful service etc. I
