Friends/family discount?

A friend's son (who is employed by Disney) offered a discount for our upcoming trip. If anyone has done this, wondering if you could explain how it works. Do we book and somehow the discount is applied or does the Disney employee have to do the booking? If so, I assume the reservation must still be in our name somehow. Sorry if this a silly question!

For the Friends and Family 40% off the employee can book it online and you need to pay the first night deposit. They can definitely put it in your name and after that you can do anything with the reservation yourself.

For the CM discount which is 50% they have to be staying in the room with you and be on the reservation. Same thing as far as booking.
