Fried Shrimp

Every time I take my mom down there she keeps insisting that they simply MUST have fried shrimp down there. I keep telling her Florida really isn't a southern state and good ole southern fried catfish and shrimp won't be found down there.:rotfl: Fried seafood and good Mexican food are two things WDW is definitely not known for.:rotfl: (oh along with decent pizza):rotfl:

Um, we certainly are a Southern state and we have all sorts of fried catfish and shrimp. Disney might be another matter.

A shrimp po boy sounds so good! And that's not something I can get up here in New England.

I am from Boston and I miss the seafood terribly! We do have a few local places that get the shellfish flown in daily and it tastes the same and the prices are just as high as Boston but there is something about Gloucester, Essex etc and just pigging out on clams, scallops, shrimp, haddock etc.

We had the shrimp from Mara once and it was terrible! Frozen kind that was so greasy and heavy breaded.

I think at Cape May buffet you can get fried shrimp on the kids section. I think they were pretty good but not real big. The buffet cost 27.99 so not sure if that is a value to you if you do not want all the other stuff.

We have been to Cape May 6 times and have never seen fried shrimp on the buffet...is this something new since late Oct??

I'm inspired ... I'll have a shrimp po-boy for lunch tomorrow. With some fresh coleslaw, some hushpuppies, and a big ol' glass of sweet tea.:thumbsup2

Funny thing about Florida. We lived there for almost 15 years, half that time in the Panhandle and half that time in New Smyrna Beach, sorta northeast of WDW near Daytona.

The further south you go in the state, the further north you are, if that makes sense. Food preferences reflect that.

We had them at Cookes of Dublin in DTD. They were batter dipped, deep fried, and really good!

Excuse me, do you guys have sweet tea in every fridge at home and is it served in every restaurant. :snooty: Hmm! Didn't think so! Florida is not considered a southern state. Any self respecting southerner keeps sweet tea in the fridge at all times and all southern restaurants serve it.:snooty::rotfl: Just kidding, by the way.:rotfl::flower3::grouphug:

Hey! Anybody ever wonder why the American pavilion in Epcot doesn't have a buffet of traditional southern foods like fried catfish, crawfish, fried shrimp, chicken fried steak and gravy, deep fried turkey, cornbread dressing, green tomato relish, cornbread, potato salad, cole slaw, red beans, corn on the cob, battered french fries, corn fritters, hush puppies, fried stuffed jalapenos, strawberry shortcake, hot blackberry cobbler, homemade ice cream, sweet tea, etc?

I've always felt that Boatwright's has missed a splendid opportunity by not doing just that.

This would be my model:

To MickiNikki,
I think the fried shrimp was in the kids section. I could be wrong, it was there or Boma's . I do remember eating some but thats about it.

The best.... THE BEST.... fried shrimp I've ever had can be found at Cookes of Dublin (the counter service next to Raglan Road). The shrimp were huge and fresh-tasting, and the batter wasn't too overwhelming. Just perfect. I have a picture of my fried shrimp basket from there at home.... if I had it available now I'd post it!

I haven't spent much time at DTD. Can someone tell me where Cookes is in relationship to Rainforest or Legoland?

I know you're kidding but, yes ma'am, where I'm from when you order iced tea they ask, Regular or sweet, hon? My mother made sweet tea every single morning. I actually associate it with breakfast.

You can ask for sweet tea at Disney, btw. Sometimes they have it, sometimes not. I've had really good sweet tea at Columbia Harbor House though it's not on the menu - regular isn't listed either, but they've got it and fried fish, too, though I haven't tried it.
